And compared to MK's band, John has definitely the better-looking inside left (or right!)  :lol :lol :lol

Thanks Holger! I had a try on Money for Nothing and Sultans and was  prepared not to like MfN. But it wasn't that bad! Actually I  like the way he works out the guitar sound. Sultans is another story. With keys in it is very unusual today. But John seemed to have fun on stage, and at least he has nothing against being videoed!  ;D And he has that very handsome inside left. Did I mention that?  8)

Nice way to put up the show btw, very clear and well-arranged. So thanks again for sharing.

Funny, he doesn't play the MFN quite right. I mean, you can vary it endlessly put he plays it in the higher G position... Oh well, guitarists know what I mean.

What's the deal with a girl playing acoustic guitar in these rock songs?

MFN was rather weak, I think I prefer his Sultans. Slightly overdriven!

Damn, I miss John's stage presence. Always full of energy.

Yeah, she's quite a honey.  No wonder Chris is along for the ride.  Eh, so to speak!

She is just a singer/songwriter managed by Chris for 2 years or more, so John's helping to promote her... ;D

But why not a girl? Is this a 'Man's World'?  :P

What do you mean by "higher G position"?? I may be confused by english music language here.

Well I think MfN sounds awful, he varied the riff so much, sounds terrible.

All in all nice cover, but to me it's not MK.

Ditto...It's John Illsley! He couldn't be MK and it's great he isn't...LOL
Why should we compare them both?

DS songs, especially MFN and SOS are like Marks signatures and I think it's great that John doesn't want to copy them;  if he just copied Mark he would be a like a tribute band (or a part of).  He puts his own stamp on them and that at least shows he has put some effort into trying out new arrangments.

Exactly, that special MFN riff and the twiddly notes SOS solo are the very MKs signatures.
These parts played very very important roles in these 2 songs, which thanks to them became milestones in DS (or should we say MK) history. The riff and twiddly bits are not just "another solo" from I don't know, Expresso love or Ride across the river. You can change and vary and make up solos in those kind of songs almost as you like, but imho you can't change such a significant part of MFN or SOS.
To me, any MFN or SOS without them is just another cover by a tribute band.
