Hey there, this could be some breaking news.
Scott asked Guy Fletcher in his forum if there will be some live material as mp3 available for download. And Guy answered: "funny you should ask...more later".
Now that's brilliant, innit?
-
I saw that too, but he could just as well have been answering the 2nd part of the question... time will tell.
-
Actually, what we all would like is not mp3 downloads...
What we crave for is a Blu-Ray containing the best versions of *all* songs played on the tour, with DTS-MA 5.1 sound. Am I right ? ;)
Well, what strikes me is that in order to get that, some pretty high quality and therefore big cameras are needed; hence, they should be seen from the audience.
Has anybody seen any camera (except for the amateurs' ones who got the "finger of death" treatment) ?
To my knowledge: not so far.
Let's hope that towards the end of the tour (usually when the shows are best and hence good target for recording) somebody will report "I have seen 3 big cameras !"

I'd go for quality audio - that means a live album, Alchemy II :-D
But when mp3 is all that is possible by now, I'd be happy with that.

Guy isn't going to say anything MK doesn't want him to say so why bother?
-
well, one answer from today is very promising:
Q: I am entering every day to this forum waiting for news of a live album or anithing like that!
A: I'm sure there will be some good news for you soon.

jbaent is correct, Guy has been dropping these kind of hints for years but with no end product.
That's not a criticism of Guy, I honestly believe he wants to get the recordings out there, but at a guess things get talked about and then at the last minute MK says "No".
-
Damn that MK negativity!! ;D
-
Well, but if he really says "I'm sure there will be some good news for you soon. "...
Why would he say that he is SURE that there will be some good news... :) if there would be no chance??
And, as far as I know, every official video from tours (Alchemy, On The Night, Real Live R.) have been filmed always at the end of currect tour, right?
Who knows?? ;)

Danny, nice to have you back, haven't seen you for a while.
I hate to be negative but if anyone cares to search through Guy's forum you will see that there have been lots of similar "hints" over the years but nothing ever comes of it. :-\
I hope I am wrong though. :)
-
I hate to be negative
no you don't, you love it really ! ;D
And is it just me but if somebody tells me:
"I am sure you will get good news soon" I feel it is less sure that if they had said "you will get good news soon"?

You are correct. :)

Guy posted this now:
"fingers crossed. No filming at the RAH though or indeed anywhere though. "
I suppose that if we get anything, it will be a sound recording... That would be great too, although I would really like a Blu-ray... :)
-
I'll be happy with a decent soundboard recording, I listen much more than I watch.
-
Hum. So disappointed... no filming anywhere just means no Blu-Ray.
So, we can tell now that the "finger of death" is not because of the perspective of an official video release; quite on the contrary, it appears that Mark does not want to appear on screen AT ALL - be it officially ot not; that's strange, as one of the 2009 pre-show was officially released at least on VoD...
Anyway... we are not in his head.
Will be happy to purchase the official audio of course, but a Blu-Ray would be so much better; even sound wise, 5.1 sound in DTS-MA lossless is so much better than a CD, not even mentionning lossy mp3s.
The RLRR DVD was the closest thing to what I would like - a DVD (now BR) + CD combo, with some nice bonuses; too bad the sales were't there to push the idea. Maybe the concert with Emmylou was not the best product to release - I love it, not the point, by maybe a "pure" MK tour document would have sold better.
Seems like the story may end up, at best, like the Shangri-la tour with the Passalong digiital downloads. At least I hope that won't have bloody DRM on it, so that they can be used on Macs and Iphones...

"A night in London" lacks energy compared to Vaison'96 (just listen to Going Home on both, to see the difference). On tope of that, it is a crime that the very nice version of SoS was released on the VHS and not on DVD, and that TR was not released at all (96 versions are the best of all time IMHO).
I find you a bit harsh with RLRR, to me it is a very fine concert, it is nice to see MK so much more energetic than 10 years before on "A night in London" ! It is a fine document of a fine album (ATTR), with unvaluable extras, such as the best version ever of Speedway (gorgeous with Emymlou, Stuart Duncan and the light show), and So Far Away and Why Worry (the only official versions of these 2 DS songs). Simply, RLRR, while a very fine thing, is no substitute for a "pure" MK tour document. It teases you with an idea a what a Shangri-La tour official DVD would have been, and yes, this one would have sold much more.
Anyway... who are we to complain... but I agree with you on a CD with booklet vs. bloody mp3 files !

Agree with just about everything you wrote herlock, unfortunately it seems the poor sales of RLRR have ruled out future video releases on cost grounds.
I'm still hoping the Montreux performance may be recorded and broadcast (in HD?) :)

I did not want to say that RLRR is BAD DVD...just...every MK

I'd love a new official concert recording especially video, but with the amount of touring MK has done in the last few years I would imagine if MK had any desire to do it he would have already.
I would settle for a audio download though. What did he do a few few years ago was it 'passalong?'. I couldn't access those recordings on my Mac. Were they any good?

Very good indeed, even if the format was loosy MP3. I bought the London one, and had no remorse to break the DRM on it to put it on my iphone.
Now that passalong is gone, they should be in public domain, unless there is an alternative offer (but there isn't). You can actually find them on the net.
-
why does eveyone keep saying RLRR had bad sales, are there official numbers anywhere?

GF said so.

Maybe we can hope that some 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2008 show being released later. But for the momemt the priority is set for the current tour and if sales are good enough it should be encouraging them to put more show online.

Now that we actually have the recordings we can close this thread, please discuss them in the other one.

mm, just wanted to add that PC did mention that they would love to release more "old" shows for download, but "it" (MK) is a big supertanker that is kinda heavy to turn around that quick...
