Well I think young lady sounds good :) Not so sure about M
-
But "young lady" is English! ;D Is there a German equivalent which doesn't offend? ;)
-
Having a German niece, I'm very curious to know what is the correct word ::)

Maybe "Eine junge Dame" ? :)

Yes, "Junge Dame" is appropriate :) Or "Junge Frau" wich is a bit less formal.

No, I do not. Maybe we should shut this down, otherwise we will be thrown out to the Deutschenecke... ;)
Funny enough, Guy mentioned in his new diary entry that because their driver had lost his bottle opener they could not enjoy their Duvel beer. Although I do not drink any beer at all, I know a lot of people laughing about this because I am sure that most of the (male?) members around here would be able
to open a bottle of beer with a pen. Or a key. Or a swiss army knife. Or with another bottle. It seems those band mates are all very sweet! :)

Guy also mentions that they'll stay at the Villa Kennedy. That's a very posh hotel indeed. I once walked by that building on my way to the "History of Medicine Ethics" library of the Frankfurt University to do some PhD research. What can I say, I was impressed! Now, who wants to play R

Remembers me of standing in front of the Hyatt Hotel in Hamburg back in 2008 (because they stayed there in 2005 and named it one of their tour favourites). Lots of fans (those kind of rudigers, with album covers, posters and beer bellys am I nasty today or what) assembled there. The next day I learned from Guy's diary that they weren't there at all but stayed at Frankfurt I think and made the whole Germany stint from there. But it was a sunny day then and I think they might stay there this time because they have a day off before Hamburg. So I might turn out to be Rudiger in Hamburg again, let's see...

When Guy mention something....

Well, that's probably where they slept last night... :D Now it's too late for talking, we can talk later on...

Yeah, they'll have to catch their plane to Paris so they'll have to shorten the set.

OK, never mind. "Partial" hopefully means that there are at least one or two songs missing at the end? Nice to see Get Lucky back again.
LE

Looks like they have the standard setlist and the "we-are-going-to-miss-the-plane" setlist, being the second the one with changes...
Its great they played Get Lucky, now we have almost all variations in soundboard, from all they played until now there are only some songs missing, like "Remembrance", "local hero", "A night in summer" or "Our shangri-la"
-
I found this on local.hero.org. Very early I think it was on that site! So NO "going-to-the-plane-bla-bla" (in fact read this sentence too often today, can't read it anymore...) Piper was played obviously. The changes are the same as in Ingrids post so I think this could be taken for granted.

The band introduction before the Napoleon song was quite short, it seemed to me MK was a little embarrassed the applause after SOS went on for so long, and when people finished clapping, they started again :P
We also got a shorter explanation for why he was sitting. He didn't mention the trapped nerve (well, not all Germans watch Dr. House regularly ;D ), he just said his doctor told him not to walk and run. He did however ensure us: "Alles klar" ;D
I had hoped he'd play Cleaning My Gun or Why Aye Man but maybe he'll save the latter one for Munich (chemical-free Bavarian beer and all...) ;D
-
I'm at the editorial office right now, writing my official review. My colleague just showed me a fantastic agency picture of a smiling, happy MK :) :) Unfortunately I'm not allowed to post it :'(
-
Well, Get Lucky instead lf Monteleone. Just add Cleaning My Gun to it, and together with Coyote THIS would be my PERFECT set list!
Can't help Goldenheart96, but I somehow remember you sitting in row 1 at Hamburg 2008?? And at the famous Berlin promo gig, we all can see on video
(he he he) that you are drooling at row number one! :lol
LE
-
I was in row 2 in Hamburg 2008 IIRC, but yes you are right, I had a front row ticket at the Berlin gig in 2007, even though it wasn't dead center ;D
-
It seemed you and your Mum had a really great evening! Great to read that MK was in such a good mood! And that his singing is evolving is phantastic, too! Makes me wait even more eagerly for my show.
Anybody a (good) Munich ticket left? Just a try... :disbelief

Hey, the Frankfurt download is already on simfylive! :o Cool... The next day, it works all out fine obviously with that company...

Pheeewwwwww, I am back from Frankfurt as well. What a day!
First went to the office, 3 1/2 hours of working (you have to make some money during these weeks :P)
Then I left the office, direct to the ATM (because in Antwerp I wanted to have some extra cash and what do you think .... dutch bankcards were not accepted and creditcards neither! Hi there it's 2010!!
Into the car again for a 378 kilometers drive to Frankfurt. Left from the Netherlands without sun, about 18 degrees. Arriving in Germany it became better and around Cologne, only around 170 km. to go it was a blue sky and 24 degrees. Time to have the roof down.
I love the German motorways, a big part has no speedlimit. That's the way I like it. Not too much traffic, no need to hurry but still going strong on 150km/hour. These modern hardtop convertibles are really a joy, not too much sound, almost no wind and in case you feel some cold in the neck, turn on the neckheater, very comfortable, but not necessary because temperature was rising up to 25 degrees Celsius.
Arrived around 16.00 at the venue, parking under the venue almost empty. Decided to go to a nice terrace to have some sushi. Turned out to be no sushi between 2.30pm and 8pm but a nice prosecco while checking mail and reading the newspaper online did it. :D Around 5.30pm I decided to have a meal, just next to the mainentrance was a nice italian restaurant, sitting in the sun, having a delicious pasta with mushrooms and then the messages came in, where are you?
I found Marky49 and Mark96er waiting for me at the mainentrance. Having a chat, and in we went. No sign of mk.com but the boxoffice did there job very quick. Checking the merchandise and decided to have the signed litho here after the show (my car was just below my feet, so easy to bring it to the car before having an aftershow-drink).
First row, deadcenter. The stage was really high, so Makry49 and I didn''t see MK's guitar till the encores, we only saw the tray in front of the guitars. But sound was excellent, show was real good, another amazing Marbletown (best till now for me), rush to the stage already before the end of TR, sorry I thought MK was ending his solo but after the rush he continued for another 2 minutes or so. Standing at the stage, my nose and eyes were just above it, some idiots (called security) tried to ruin our night and wanted us to go back to our seats, NO WAY!
BIA and SFA and the band went off. I thought noooooooo, not again. Audience were loud, yelling, calling, clapping, and yes the band came back! Piper to the end and that was it.
First went to the merchandise to get my hands on the signed litho, also bought the USB-stick, brought it to my car (forgot where I left it so strolling around the parkinggarage for 10 minutes) and back to the italian restaurant for a drink. Just a coke this time, prefer a nice beer, but had to drive back the same 378 kilometers.
Driving back, no speed-limit and at night less traffic so I decided to drive a little faster :D. At 2.30am I was at home, a little food and I can't remember how fast I was asleep. Loved this day!

Hey Holger!
Nice work, thank you very much! No black t-shirt under that shirt this time... :lol
What was your opinion of yesterday's show? I read a very good short review on sueddeutsche.de
And willl I see you in Hamburg, too?
LE
Wow, found your Hill Farmer clip, too! Awesome...
-
The Show was amazing. I really enjoyed every single second.
I was very suprised about the audience, cannot believe it was Frankfurt!!!!!!! Lot
-
Hi Wolfgang,
the show was a good one and the crowd was great. No outstanding soloing by Mark but nevertheless very good playing at all.
After the gig there was a Mark Knopfler radio special on "HR1" from 11.00 - 12.00 pm. Very nice to hear the overwhelming comments from the interviewed fans who had joined the show. The radio broadcast was a nice entertainment during the journey back to my hometown :)
Sure I will be in Hamburg. 3 Shows done so far, 8 more to come for me. Hamburg will be one of them for sure ;)
All the best

Guy said it was one of their best concerts. And Piper to the End was a "real" encore; it obviously wasn't planned as Guy said they just HAD to come back one more time because the audience was so loud ;D
-
Well done, then! :D It is on the recording now! So good for all of us! But the fact that it was not planned in the setlist makes me thinking...
LE
-
It was planned in the setlist. A security guy gave me an official setlist after the show and it included PTTE.
-

Oh okay. Hmm, sorry for being gullible... At least it felt unplanned.
-
Yes I agree with your impression.
Maybe they were uncertain before the show if they should play it and finally they did it because of the extremely loud demands of the audience.
Well done fans! :lol
-
Ahh a genuine encore. ;)
-
"Encore" reminds me of the time they need to produce the usb-sticks. I wonder how many are usually sold after one show and how they keep making them so fast... If I understand correctly, you have to download the encores the next day to have the complete show. So that are some 15 minutes or so for the SimfyLive people to load some sticks... How many sticks were available? I am planning to buy one in Hamburg, too, only because to have one in this nice package... ;D
Wonder if this stuff sells well and if PC & MK are satisfied with the first sales figures. I am still very astonished that "our" MK goes this modern way to sell concert recordings!! How much better is this than only one "Live Album" like OTN or that SOS bonus disc from 1996, overall not complete... This method is really up to date and fine with me! Thanks again to MK and PC and maybe GF and whoever was involved...
LE

This concert rocks!!!
I love the recording!
Sultans of swing...WOW! Cant fucking belive it!! The way MK plays it....Im in heaven!!

i saw the machine(s) they used to burn the dvd's, they can put like multiple usb's in them each time, and the burning goes real fast, or so it looked. then there are two or three girls that put them in the little boxes....
hey holger, can you scan the setlist and post it??
-
Ahh a genuine encore. ;)
Well yes, sorry if I'm naive but they did walk offstage after SFA. That was the first time they did that. On all other concerts they remained onstage, even before PTTE started. Now why did they leave the stage if the encore was planned? Maybe it was on the sheet because it was only an option, or MK's leg is getting better, which would finally put those health rumours at rest. Mark still has a light limp but he is certainly not House, MK (sorry, couldn't resist) anymore ;D
-
Maybe they thought they'd see if they could slip off without playing PTTE but the fuss was too great. I asked Guy about it today and he said "it shouldn't happen again"

Germany has the fiercest security men from all the world ?
I guess Isaac was LUCKY he didn't encounter those heavy handed overly zealous security gorillas in Philadelphia. ( Sorry, those jerks acted just as described) They gave another fan ( I ignored them completely) a hellish time. Claiming our seats are not legitimate. Insisting that my friend needed to go the management. What ? after we paid $330/each for some crappy seats in front of the speakers ? The first few songs was ruined by them. When I went back to listen to the recording, I could hear the heated exchange. The venue was located in the dumpy/seedy part of town.
The best part was when my friend went over to the security jerk that sat right in front of us the entire show, and said " Do you know who MK is?" " no, I couldn't careless" was the immediate response. "of course, you don't!" " do you know how important he is to me I flew in from out of town to see him?" " Do I give a sh...?" was the jerk attitude. " you did your damn best to ruin it for me" The general verbal exchange was nasty along that lines.
They also yelled at us just because we tried to take some pictures of the trucks and the equipment.
A lot of the sound crews are very nice though. They all said great things about working with Mark.
-
I noticed something very interesting yesterday evening in Paris regarding the security thing.
Security were standig against the barriers watching us but just before the show no else than PC from the far right side of the stage did make a sign to them and the security team left the area.
-
sweetsurrender, don't put every word Isaac types on the gold scale. Yes, the security guys were a little rude in Frankfurt, but I am convinced there are far worse of those people. Sorry about your own experience by the way. I think what he had in mind when he was writing his blog was that famous incident in Cologne during the Shangri-La tour 2005 when people were rushing towards the stage after TR and they were violently pushed back by some security monkeys. It even prompted MK himself to react with a "F*cking security!!" (You can hear it on the bootleg) and they withdrew.
However, this was just one incident. I've been to quite a few MK concerts in Germany (more than Isaac, at least so far...) and can reassure you that German security is certainly not the "fiercest in the world".
I wouldn't have minded some more security during the bag control at the entrance, though... I don't know, it's probably because I once worked at an airport for a while, but a lax security in regards to bag control always makes me nervous.

What a poor sucker he is. I don't get it people are still filming complete shows, even if they explicitly mention it's FORBIDDEN. The quality of this kind of filming is absolutely cr*p, useless or whatever just like the overall sound quality. Besides, we do have SB recordings now. i also filmed a show together with Markywes in rotterdam 2008, without disturbing it for anyone, so pls do not generalise too much.
i TOTALLY get your drift, most video's are not that good, and mostly made with mobile phones, filming shaky and blurry, still, no need to call names. (meaning, the comment itself is valid, just no need for the "names")
still, we are a free froum, so this will remain on here, just reconsider the nexttime you are upset.

Errr no, filming in 2008 was actualy only allowed on the first Amsterdam show.
I was there and as soon as the second Amsterdam show no one else than PC did come very early in the show and politely asked a known fan from the first row to stop filming.
Rotterdam being the third night of the tour it was already forbidden on that night.
The revised policy was announced on the site on april 2d
"Important Announcement
Revised Policy on Recording & Photography at concerts
There are increasing numbers of fans filming the show. Everybody should be able to enjoy the concert without interference from others. It is beginning to get too distracting for the band and irritating too many people in the audience. Please note that starting with immediate effect video/DVD/film cameras will not be permitted in any part of the venue. Single shot cameras and audio are still okay but please be mindful of your fellow fans.
Paul Crockford

And on April 15th the full policy page was updated

I suppose the sound quality doesn't matter anymore, as the soundboard sound from Simfy can and no doubt will be substituted.
I know where you are coming from but in the absence of any official product it's nice to have some unofficial stuff. They can be done very well, just look at the Boothbay DVD (thanks again to Booway and Spence for filming, and to Poupy for mixing). In fact it will be even better once it has the soundboard feed added to it. :)

Funny you should say that but I managed to get a setlist for Glasgow in 2001 and it didn't include Prairie Wedding that they actually DID perform during the show that night. :)
