Title: Any chance for a new song ?
Post by: herlock on June 12, 2010, 12:23:47 PM
We already are in the second half on the tour.
It looks unikely that a new song (I think of So Far From The Clyde, or Postards From Paraguay) will pop up.
To my knowledge, the entire set of songs to be played on the tour has always been known after a couple of shows; but this year, "Monteleone" pop up rather late...
Any example of a new song poping up in the second half of the tour ? any hope ? :)

Well, if there is this special gig at Monte Carlo, he could play some gamble-related stuff like You Can't Beat The House, or Sucker Row, or Sands of Nevada, or so. But how realistic is that?

Add that in Monaco it will be at least a 20 minutes shortened show. Maybe Montreux could be the right place to do this.

I cross my fingers for "So Far From The Clyde" in the outdoor intimate gig in Lyon.

But you know, I'm still believe to Santa Claus.

if mark showed us one thing this tour, never say never.
when we are all "bored to death" with the setlist, he goes on and changes (london --> antwerp)

Yep! There may be only some small changes, but there are changes.

I think the band may not play new songs, but it seems they want to play classic ones with new arrangements to satisfy some fans who attend more than one show.

to satisfy some fans who attend more than one show.

I believe this is the sort of thing Mark does not want to be bored with.

1) Mark play for a different audience everynight.
2) Mark adjust the setlist according to his mood or what he feel most adequate regarding the location (intimate/big venue, standing seated, curfew...)

For example in 2005 for his 5 RAH run, only the june 2d differed with one extra song added ("Our Shangri-La")

http://users.telenet.be/markknopfler/setlist2005.html

More or less the same for the 2008 and 2010 runs, minor variation from one night to another but definitively not an ABB or Springsteen style setlist.

Ritchie Blackmore has his many faults but one thing in his favour is that neither he nor the band know what songs they are going to play at any given concert. They decide during the show what to play and in no particular order - it all depends on RBs mood and the audience. It makes for an entertaining show that's for sure.

Noooooooooooo!  Julio, you almost kill me!!!  Never rehearsed for this tour, it means MK has just written some new tunes on the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Hoorayyyyyyyy!

Joking, hehehe.  In fact, Guy mentioned not on 2010 tour rehearsal list, but maybe on other previous tour rehearsal lists, so I'll not be surprised too much if "new" tunes popped out in the latter shows.  But with this 8 piece band, new tunes can be turned out pretty fresh and brandnew, just as they are evolving WAM intro, Coyato solo, and SFA intro.

Ahhh, was just thinking the other day that really the biggest surprise of the Get Lucky tour is that MK hasn't played Sonny Liston.

Wouldn't be surprised if it get's rolled out... AGAIN.  :-\

If it's "songs we didn't rehearse" then it won't be "So far from the Clyde", cos I'm sure Guy let slip somewhere on his forum that they had been rehearsing that one.

I have serious doubt that MFN could return, moreover this is the sort of song they played to death on past tours and basicaly Mark play the riff and everybody follow. I would opt for a more "obscure" or "challenging" one.

Regarding SL I was very happy that Mark did not perform it on last european leg.

And finger crossed that WOL won't make a return either.

RAH setlist was very pleasant, so all I hope is basically the same only with different songs from the GL album played.

Song for sonny liston was on the rehearsel list 2010 too...

I think it could be True love will never fade... John Mccusker did a great job on that one in 2008...

Maybe Tunnel of Love? :lol

What an anticlimax!   All that excitement about a new song and its, wait for it, the fish and the yawn.  An ok song on te album as far as it goes, but, as others have said, the album is very much a mood thing.  Live, this song is a excuse to go to the loo or buy a beer.  Yawn.  It also de,mands very little playing on MK's part.  I know this band is brilliant, but I'd like to hear a bit more of MK please.

I have listened to the Simfy recording (damn it, another one I had to buy !!). Have to say the fish and the bird, altough nowhere close to the song I would have chosen to introduce had I been granted this priviledge, sounds very nice.
Now Guy started talking about newly rehearsed songS, but then dropped the "S" in the new entry... does it mean they will only do this one, or could we hope for Postcards or Rudiger ??

Very disappointed it was The Fish and The Bird and not So Far From The Clyde. Both have the same kind of slow melancholy mood so it seems So Far From the CLyde would have been a good choice. I'm sure there is some special reason that Mark doesn't want to play this song but we my never find out what.

I can tell you why:  Fish is easier plus it gives Mike more to do.  Simple. ::)
