Thanks, very nice read.

the part when John mentioned about how they (DS) sometimes mixed songs up to what what songs would come up next and so forth.  It reminded me of a bootleg which was recorded in NY November 14, 1980.  It was a super cool medley of TOL, where do you think you're going and single handed soldier. Has anyone ever listened to this version ?  It's quite rare, I believe.  Very very cool.  The 3 songs medley lasted about 3:24 minutes

Thanks for posting.  Good read.  John clearly still hankers for a DS reunion when you read between the lines.  He is a thouroughly decent and talented guy but I must say I think the clips of him playing Sultans etc on his recent live appearances are a bit sad.  His own solo stuff is ok.  Best he sticks to it.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Although I'm not bothered either way to be honest. It's always been just about Mark Knopfler in my opinion but there is something magical about having Mark on stage with John. I can't quite put my finger on what it is :)

It's just nostalgia. Clearly he's a nice bloke and he was there during all the DS days that made us fall in love with MK's music in the first place. But really Glenn is a more than adequate replacement, on this tour I spent a lot of time watching/listening to Glenn and he truly is a magnificent bass player.

Yeah have any of you listened to any of the new Soundboards of Mark! It's awesome, heard Sultans earlier today and it is so good. Definitely better than the last 2 tours imo

Just listen to the bassline in SOS from RAH first night. That's the way you play it, gives another dimension to the song!

Sultans from Middelfart is indeed a very good version.
