Ah, this one's a beauty. Matt playing some soulful gospel/country piano with Mavis Staples.

(Off topic: Speaking of Mavis Staples, I can recommend the album We'll never turn back, which Ry Cooder produced and played on. Great gospel/blues/freedom songs album.)

Love this. The tune is very beautiful, one of my old favourites, and Matt is amazing here.
I love also these pieces with Lyle Lovett, brilliant Matt:

I wonder if it possible to find that full A&E Live by Request show anywhere, dream about it.

Matt Rollings was the piano player of Lyle Lovett's band for a long long time.
I wonder if Matt was in his band when Lyle was the support act for the Dire Straits european summer concerts and if Mk met him then... a question for Guy?
;D
-
jbaent, when was this? Year?
-
Lyle opened for Dire Straits in Europe during the On Every Street tour. Can't find any info on Lyle's band at that time. But I seem to remember Guy or Richard writing that Matt was introduced to Mark via Jim Cox when Jim started having ear problems.
-
Thanks Jackal. I doubt Matt was with LL band on that tour, he never told about it.

He wasn't at Wobburn Abbey show in 92, that's sure, so my guess is that he wasn't part of the band then.
By the way I love Lyle!

Matt played on Golden Heart, so that was before the ear problems.

My memory skipped the first part:
Matt is playing piano and B-3, he's a friend and a brilliant studio musician from Nashville. In fact, it was Matt who played piano on 'Vic and Ray' and 'Rudiger' on the Golden Heart album. Matt and Jim are old friends so it's a natural fit for him to come on board for the tour. (from Richard's Notes from the road - ShangriLa tour)
So, curious about when Mark first met Matt. The Golden Heart sessions might have been first time.

Was Not Was was the support act for the spring/summer tour. Later it was "The Blues Band (http://www.thebluesband.net/)"
I did attend Werchter so I got Was Not Was but David and Don were not on stage if my memory is correct (I noticed it as I saw them in Paris one month earlier)

Thank you, dreamsound for those clips of Mary Chapin Carpenter. She is one of my favourite songwriters and I love her warm-sounding voice. Matt's piano is so beautiful too and complements her voice so well. I met Matt in 2008 and told him how much I enjoyed his work with MCC and he seemed genuinely touched. He's a really lovely person.

You are welcome, superval99. I do love Matt and try to find any videos and albums he played on, and everything I found so far is awesome. I hope to meet him sometime... I wrote him a message on FB though.
Listen to his solo record Balconies if you have not done it before, it's amazing!
