every year this subject comes up and every year I contribute the same thing to the discussion, so I'll say it again this year  ;D

Why should we care if he doesn't and the "Rock and Roll" Hall of fame is a joke because Madonna and Abba (amongst other "Rock and Roll" acts ) are in it and, although I have nothing against those 2 acts they are hardly Rock, are they?

I think Mark Knopfler wants DS to be in the HoF as much as the Sex Pistols wanted their band to be in the HoF.  :P

For what it's worth Donna Summer is a real legend to me, some of those disco records were amazing.

Darlene Love, well, less so, but she's still had a great career, icluding singing on loads of great Duane Eddy records. Saw her in Hairspray on Broadway in 2005 when I went to see MK, and of course she was Danny Glover's wife in Lethal Weapon. :)

Lol I wasnt bashing Donna Summer at all, I meant it in the essence of it meaning to be the 'Rock and Roll' hall of fame.

I love Donna Summer too! I love so many types of music.

There is very little I don't like apart from heavy Thrash Metal or Rap :)

Yes, well, I do have this single of Guitar Man and a few more Duane Eddy records lurking in my cupboard.  I was a great Duane Eddy fan, but somehow his guitar doesn't excite me at all these days!  I know MK liked DE a lot too, he talked about "Because They're Young"  on the 'Roots' programme.  As for Darlene Love, I can't for the life of me see why she, who was just a backing singer really, would be in the R&RHOF and MK/DS is not!  :(

because the Rock and Roll Hall of fame is not what its name indicates. It's a big joke. Why is it so important to you?

I find it irritating too and I don't know why. :disbelief I know MK doesn't need the validation, maybe I do, even though the honor lost much of it's luster as they keep inducting musicians/songwriters who have accomplished much less.

As always these things are a load of *********.

In this world people dont realise how good you were until your not around anymore - Roy Orbison on this side of the pond being an example. Unfortunately I think that MK through his own making or whatever will be classed in the same fashion. That is unless he does a Police sort of a thing on it & re invents himself in the DS mode for a world tour  - dont think thats going to happen too soon though!!!

I agree with everyone that it is total nonsense looking at the list of artists on it before MK.  I've also thought MK wouldn't be interested or care or enjoy the attention etc.  Like the fact he has never authorised a biography. Then he does a TV show called Legends.  So he must have a certain amount of will to see his work recognised which I always believed he didn't because he is constantly self deprecating and hiding in the shadows.  So maybe he hasn't been asked yet.

I was surprised that Neil Diamond has only just been nominated, but he has been recognised before in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
