I thought you badly needed the toilet......... ;D
Guy is able to write a lot and say nothing. That's an art, too! :lol
LE
Well, it seems as though America are doing a bit of interpreting on "Sailing to Philadelphia", with MK's help, and that is a great piece of news for me and I guess we must look forward to a co-operation with America in the future. I know it is a bit weird to mention, but MK has often used the favors he was owed. Jimmy Nail, Van Morrison, Willy de Ville, Eric Clapton etc. No, I guess this is not a right way to think of things, musicians are all a bunch of friends and if they are not, they are admirers and fond to help each other, but it is somehow weird, isn't it?
I thought you badly needed the toilet......... ;D
NAT!!!!!..........That's funny, you should see me laughing here! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/Roflbig.gif)
I don't know anything about guitars and other music equipment etc, BUT I love to read what is happening in the studio! So lucky we have Guy who keeps us informed again! Whenever I am able to meet Guy in future, I would love to say THANK YOU Guy and give him a BIG hug as reward for all the work he does for us! mwhahahahahaah I've met him before and thanked him......... However, I did not cuddle him, lol
update!!

I had to look twice if he really is the guy in the background that is looking rather... sceptical? :lol
I think the return of Paul Franklin is really a big surprise. His last appearance was on "Shangri-La", wasn't it? That's seven years now... I always liked his
contributions. It is right to say that there is not a single line about Matt's leave. I think he deserves some nice words for what he added to Mark's music during the last albums/tours...
The average age in the band has increased now rapidly with Jim and Phil, hasn't it.
I might add that Matt already was somehow "invisible" during the last tour's diaries, he is the only band member that has not been interviewed for the "Life In Songs documentary". Maybe he has other plans for the future, or has troubles now with touring... It has not automatically be MK's decision if somebody
is not in his band anymore...
LE
Not sure why some people here are so disapointed that some former members of the band are now not involved in the new sessions.
I see it like it is. These musicians are professionel musicians, they get hired if they are needed from Mr. Knopfler or not.
It depends on what Mr. Knopfler or whoelse finds what it takes to fit and match the sound for the new album.
That is totally different from a personel "i like him and i like him not" view.
Btw. i like what i read about the new album.
Hopefully Mr. Knopfler is wise enough to not overproduce the album as get lucky was in some aspects.
I love to hear a more natural, raw album with some different sounding songs.

Hmm perhaps no Danny means no drums at all? :o
Hmm perhaps no Danny means no drums at all? :o
I have a small idea that Ian Thomas can play drums :)
Hmm perhaps no Danny means no drums at all? :o It seems unlikely but I wonder why this possibility popped into my head... Also, I am so NOT excited about Paul Franklin's return. I know he is a fab musician but these news give me having horror visions of a new album with a buttload of wailing slide guitar sounds. EEEEK! :o :o
Guy said of poor Matt that he was only Jim's stand-in! Well he was certainly with us for a lot longer than Jim was and deserves a bit more respect than that. It seems that the current member is the best member in Guy's world. Danny was the best drummer ever not so long ago but what's Guy saying now?
As ever, Dusty is right! I think we can be pretty sure that Matt did not turn down the chance to record with MK again. Excellent musician that he obviously is, he has been well and truly dropped.
The return of "The best pedal steel player in the world, Paul Franklin" is great, plus if he tours with Mark, its adds to the chance that Mark might play You and Your Friend live again :) plus, I always liked Paul's solo in Walk of Life.
Diary 4 is coming!
Since there's so much more to tell and upload, please turn to page 4
http://www.guyfletcher.co.uk/index.php/2011MKStudio/Diary_Page_4
Remember, Matt was brought in because Jim wasn't well enough to play/travel. It could be that MK said at the time "Sorry to lose you Jim, but as soon as you are well agasin, you can have your place back." And now he's feeling better, MK feels honour bound to stick to it.
Yeah, after I read Guy's line about Jim's boring journey on a container ship to get back to the US after MK's accident, I thought, wow, MK really owes this guy something... Even if he couldn't anything about the crash... :lol

I remember very well the band-line for the cancelled RPD tour:
MK
Richard Bennett
Marcus Cliffe (bass)
Jim Cox
Guy Fletcher
Fats Kaplin (mandolin, fidle)
Danny Cummings (drums)
And I remember it very well because it was the first time that the bass player wasnt Glenn, and the first time the drums want Chad.
It has to be something BIG! :lol
It has to be something BIG! :lol
Dire Straits tour, come on :D :P :lol
When, Doc?!? WHEN???
any moment
Please, let it be today! ;)
From all Guys replies it's not DS, Blues Club, NHB, The Straits. He's already done a solo album so surely that just leaves a collaboration live or in the studio. My money's on a live collaboration.
I think there will be more recording sessions... With some artist(s) who are now unavailable. Maybe some well-known names, that could be the big news.
Hey, let's make a poll of this. Can someone be bothered to create one? I have lost track of the options so far ...
Record with another artist - you mean recording another artist for his own album or playing on someone else's record?
I have been reading Guys forum and usually there is an amazing amount of spin put of things and events that are reported as being big usually turn out to be damp squibs....
I had thought the same for a while - Guy "bigging" things up - however - when i read the comment "official annoucement" i thought that maybe it was actually substantial news..
One question - how do we know this isnt DS related? Had Guy said as much in his posts? I dont recall any comment saying this isnt DS related...?
I hate to say this.....but i think it could be a DS charity reunion.....like Shepherds Bush....'92....

He said this on June 30th: I can assure you that there won't be a DS reunion. Why on earth would anyone think that given this line-up? The exact reason for the delay will soon be apparent.
I'm gonna be the first one to call it...
This will be MK's last album ever, carrying loads of prominent guests. Hence the ongoing delay.
Just a terrible gut feeling... so don't flame if I'm incorrect ;D
I was thinking about this topic seriously but couldn't help: Anything else but a pure MK solo album would be a disappointment somehow. I indeed had some
kind of "day dream" during lunch break the other day and that was that indeed only one other artist would be worthy to do a duet with MK: Bob Dylan! (huuu huuuu). I faithfully hope that there will be no David Gilmour, no David Knopfler, no Eric Clapton and no J.J. Cale! They only would absorb each other! (well, at least three of them... ;D)
ok, I will dream on...! ::)
LE
Oh please, a tour with Dylan? You've got to be effin' kidding me! Better invest your time in something new and fresh, dear MK!
Dylan aversion aside: I don't really see why MK should be interested in some nostalgia tour with Dylan... That's just boring.
but blind wilie mcTell, and many other brilliant songs on both those albums show what good can come from having these two together.
but blind wilie mcTell, and many other brilliant songs on both those albums show what good can come from having these two together.I wish I went to see Bob in Lyon last year. He did play blind Willie McTell :disbelief
the duets with Simon were not good (due to dylan) think he is no good duetting...
Careful now!!!!! ;D
No, I'm here! ;D
Careful now!!!!! ;D
I understand the answer to Carlos' question "any day now" is a direct quote from I Shall Be Released - Guy is throwing in clues to the Dylan tour.
I have a feeling Mark maybe the other headline act at BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park, on 11th September, Lionel Richie is one headline act, and Simon Mayo will announce the other one on Monday, Guy keeps saying we are awaiting the official announcement, meaning that its out of his and Mark's hands to say anything!!! I could be wrong but I think this maybe it. Plus Jools Holland is playing too.Isn't this exactly the type of event Mark has been running away from for the last 20 or so years?
Maybe, but I just have a feeling about it.I also have the feeling that MK is looking for a special event like that to play with John a couple of songs, including MFN. Not exactly a DS reunion but somehow he has to remind people who Dire Straits is.

It's THEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! :D :D :D :D New Diary Entry!!
No big news yet, but some lovely pictures of MK!
hehe,
on Guy's page today, under "Latest Dr. Fletch forum posts" on the first page, there are the names of THREE amit forumers! Julio, Geordieboy and this other bastard from the "North" - it seems AMIT will undercut all the relevant places! ;D ;D ;D
Just for fun, don't take this post too serious...
LE
Well you are both from the South, I am from the North!!!
:lol

btw Nice post, but I don't know why Guy misunderstood the post from Julio! ???

Thanks Superval99, english is not my language and I try to do my best learning from all of you, reading all your post, watching movies and tv series in english, reading books etc etc and sometimes its very frustrating when you try to say something and you discover its not understood. I can't believe that Bob would invite Mark onto a co headline tour with him, unless they were going to play something together, I mean Mark can put on his own world tour at any time should he wish, so he doesn't need Bob's promotion, so that lead's me to think they will be playing on stage together.

I totally agree with you, it makes no sense if they won't do a couple of songs together.. 8)
He is the legend, the MAN. He doesn't need to invite MK to join him onstage if he doesn't want to. Because he is Bob Dylan. And everyone will accept that. Except for me, I think he is just a weirdo ::)
I
Guy mentioned page 5 as an answer for my question regarding if they will have another recording session with the band, as he told us that he and MK were recording more and more new stuff, so I guess we
Yeah, the same goes with Metallica sound I am afraid. I had so much hope MK would at least do it this time like Metallica or Iron Maiden, but once again,
expectations were too high again....
::)
LE
No one here expects MK to pull a Metallica or Iron Maiden. I guess most of us would already be more than satisfied if he stopped under-using his effin' electric guitars. They're too expensive to be used as dust catchers. He himself has said "I've got a whole wailing wall of electric guitars that could shatter the windows down Brick Lane tonight". So DO IT, Mark! ;D

Cheers ;D
