Mark should write a song about it.
Nobody to answer the phone or something like that...

Yes, I think that is ds1984

You guys are funny... I read this new thread and was thinking, well we have another one about it, but thought it might be impolite.
Now I read all your great comments and have tears in my eyes... ;D :lol :lol
It is somehow sad what happened to MKNews... It seems like a churchyard for everything that's related with MK, fans, info....
But no wonder, with a competitor like THIS forum... 8)

In the same time this is usually how it works when being the official voice. And we should assume that there was still a lot of people that were not aware of the news. TK easy target on matter?
-
Is he still the official voice? I really doubt it, didn't see him much around during the 2010 tour. And WE have all the news earlier :)
I think he still might be the official newssite, but he doesn't get much info or doesn't have much contact with PCM.
Bleeding to death ....

Seems fairly clear that for "some reason", MK News' status was downgraded when the mk.com thing was set up. And Guy is of course a direct conduit to the fans and therefore pretty much "straight from the horse's mouth".
-
The news at mk.com are posted by TK himself at the same time he post them at mknews.
I talked about this with TK and he told me that, "as the official source for information" he can only put the news when he is told to do it, although everybody knows it because other sources (Guy itself) he can
-
Maybe some of you you should translate this "funny" comments to PC himself, and wait for his answer, and offer yourself as a "real time news poster" for the official site, and good luck with it...

Fair enough if he cant post it until he's told to do so, but the main difference between here & there is freedom of speech, some things that are posted here wouldnt last 5 mins over there, even if they were true :-X :-X
The main reason between us and between MKNEWS is that we are an UNOFFICIAL forum, and as soon as we read something we comment it inmediatly, whatever the source is, and MKNEWS is OFFICIAL, and in order to release a piece of news it needs the OK from the OFFICIAL sources.
And I

By who? I dont remember what he told me, but its very likely its Paul Crockford who does it.
I wonder if sometimes PC did not hack TK's account to post on the forum.
TK was so stubborn on subjects like video recording ! Maybe it was PC himself ::)

I have sympathy for TK over things like this, clearly his hands were tied by "the powers that be".
There are other things which I most certainly do NOT have sympathy with TK over, but I understand that GF for one is aware of these and that they are directly related to the aforementioned "changes" in the MK setup.
-
Whaaaatttt, this is'nt the official MK forum,I'm off, yeeezz are pirates & its highly illegal & rude to be discussing someone the way ye do,if I'd known this I'd still be posting on Jurassic Park :o :o :o
Are we approved by PCM, MK or Universal Records in order to be an official MK forum? NO ::)
Are we entitled to have a fans forum, manteined by fans, where fans can talk freely about everything? YES :D
Do we need to be official? WHAT FOR? ???
Are we able to see the difference between OFFICIAL or UNOFFICIAL? YES, I AM, AND YOU?
;)

Almost everybody who used to post over there seems to be emigrated into this nice place - apart from a very small (although relevant) group of people. Would be nice to see some of them over here, too! So the forum over there IS dead, it is twitching sometimes, but over all, exitus. I had a very unpleasant experience last year over there and haven't logged in ever since.
But for News, the status of "official" is not significant anymore. I mean, can anyone remember that there was a canard or some wrong information being spread on AMIT? We are the most critical and accurate bunch of people around when it comes to MK, because we are FANS! TK only seems to become spirited when it goes about (his) guitars...

About 5 years ago when I discovered the music of Mark and DS, I went to MKnews for information. It was great to see all the messages with information about Mark and DS! Everybody tried to help me and explained my (perhaps stupid) questions. Thanks to the wonderful, intelligent, fantastic and helpful fans at MKnews, I felt welcome and became a part of the Knopfler family as well! Just like many fans, I also think Terry was too severe, especial when we had a LOT of fun with writing stupid and crazy messages about Mark and other band members! We all really had a great time and it was a shame that so many messages were deleted because we were joking. Haha I remember that stupid thread with all the emoticons and one of the serious fans didn

Don't worry, Fieneke, there are still plenty of us here who continue to drool and act like fools :P

Get Lucky was a great album, but most of the "bonus" stuff wasn't apart from Early Bird, well, that is just my very own opinion, don't beat me for it. I fear some stuff like those three songs (I can't even remember the names of them... :disbelief) could appear on the new album.. And if so, I would not care the slightest, because my ecpectations to a new MK album have never been lower than this time! It seems I learned to deal with a letdown in a certain way.
I could open a new thread about his writing and some things I miss in them....
I love the last album, but I really adore the live shows! Not a single day in the last months that was not filled with listening to some Simfy shows.
So here is my (somewhat ditsy) conclusion: If MK would play the very same set list on the next tour like that one from 2010, I would be in heaven! He has never been better live, I would love to hear Border Reiver, Marbletown, Hill Farmer, Piper To The End again and again... So the new album is just a "bonus" to the next tour! And Guy answered this morning to a querie "I'm certain we will come through Minneapolis on the next tour." So the next tour is more or less for granted! I am lucky!

Early bird is great and so was pulling down the ride :)

What makes you think that MK would release a whole album of songs like that - they were obviously (and quite rightly IMO) considered to be substandard and pulled from the full album.
Seems to me MK has always done this, sometimes the songs get out one way or another (B-sides/bonus tracks), but no doubt there are lots more stuck in a vault.
Personally I love Good as gold. Early Bird is OK. The other two songs are crap.
-
Remembrance Day and Piper to the end were songs composed for "Kill to get crimson" that were left out of it...
I wonder how many great songs he has that are good enough to be released but dont fit in the album concept.
Guy always mentioned a song titled "Bonafide" as a great song, that was even considered to be played live during the 2001 tour but they didnt in the end (they played "Pyroman" instead).
-
Stuff like Two Skinny Kids, Private Dancer...
-
In my opinion, many excellent tracks have been left off the albums, like Small Potatoes and Summer of Love. OES would have been a lot better with Millionaire Blues and Kingdom Come instead of the horrible My Parties, well the list goes on.
Must say I like the bonus songs from GL as well, even Time in the Sun. It's obviously underdeveloped, but I like the atmosphere. A few years ago I burned some songs like these on a CD-R and it's a great record.

But if he excluded songs you didn't like, isn't that a good thing? :)
-
The only two songs that deserved to be in Get Lucky were "Early bird" and "Pulling down the ride", but they dont fit in the record. As Guy said, I agree that "You cant beat the house" doesn
-
Boy, am I glad they included Can't Beat the House. Wonderful tune that keeps the tempo up. Funny lyrics, funny backing vocals, and some great guitar and piano playing.
In my mind, the "doesn't fit the album" logic, which often seems arbitrary, has left us with many great tracks ending up as b-sides or not even released.

good point! Especially the way a lot of music is listened to nowadays, ie "shuffle mode on the i-pod". I still listen to whole albums but it's become rarer with new technology

Fieneke, don't worry, I'm still here, I just have had so much going on in the past months I don't come on as often as I should! And I just about 10 days ago had to get a new computer, the old one took a dump, and I'm only gradually getting all my old information back...We will all be back more frequently when the new work starts heating up!! ;D

Hi Jcser! Glad to hear it, but why wait? There is always something to talk about here! Anyway, it would be lovely to have you back with us!

Hey Jacki. Great to see you on here again.
It's been a while. I hope you are well :)
Cheers. BBB
-
SuperVal, BBB. felicitations to you both! Spring is just around the corner and I'm doing better. Looking so forward to a (regrettably probably short) visit to Merrye Olde next year - saving all my busking money expressly for that purpose! xoxox :-*
-
Thanks Joan! ;)
Heeeeey Jacki! It's good to see you here again dear friend! :-*
Yeah I am looking forward to hear more news about the new album too. I can't wait to be together again with all the fans, here at the forum and .....to meet all the fans I already met in the past and also hope to meet new ones during the concerts next year! ;D
