Not a fantastic version, a bit ragged as a matter of fact, but great fun. These two guys are amazing players though. And entertainers!

By the way, Tommy is touring with a band these days and is also playing the electric. Several clips on YT. Technique/flair/flash/speed/etc. 12.5 out of 10 ...

Great! I liked it! :D

Yeah, sounds not bad - for a first rehearsal... :lol :lol
In fact, it's really tough to listen to, isn't it...

You mean "tough" as in "sonically displeasing"?

Just as a side note - Tommy on electric during rehearsal with the band. Pretty progressive stuff. Lousy sound though.

Ah yes, I know that version of Going Home. Nice one! I LOVE Tommy Emmanuel, he is really amazing... But I do understand when people say his playing feels a little overloaded. Not sure if I could listen to him all day long.

I know what you mean, and I agree. But you know, I really think his playing really reflects his personality. He's a total livewire. Crazy really :) But he could benefit from toning it down at times.

I'm a fan too! Tommy is one of the few C.G.P's (Certified Guitar Player), honorary virtuoso titles awarded by the great Chet Atkins himself. He can be a very soulful player too, I could listen to him all day, no problem ;) Going Home isn't the greatest sample of his abilities, but You Tube is loaded with them. Tommy is most impressive when playing solo, like Chet was.

Ol Tommy, is probably the worlds greatest fingerpicker, but he's never written a 'great' song.
-
He's written some lovely tunes, I would say, but the same melodic lines are apparent in many of his songs. Probably fair to say that he is a better musician than composer.

Hehe Horse dung, not a word you encounter often in a music forum.
Yeah, Jerry is otherworldly, but in terms of technical ability, I wouldn't rate him above Tommy. Well, it's like comparing apples and oranges - you end up with fruit salad. Different instrument, different technique, etc. But I'd love to hear them duel!
On this tune for instance :)

By the way, I found this on ze worldwide web:
"One of Tommy's favourites is "Guitar Rag", a Merle Travis tune, which he then played for David, heeding Mark Knopfler's advice to 'keep the guitar bits easy'."
http://www.abc.net.au/tasmania/stories/s1042474.htm
Does anyone know if that was just general advice from Mark that Tommy had read or heard somewhere, or did Mark tell him in person? If in person, when was that, or what was the occasion?

You guys who like Tommy Emmanuel, probably know about Gareth Pearson who Tommy rates very highly.
For those of you who don't know Gareth I hope you enjoy this:
