Title: Tribute to Danny Cummings
Post by: NicoMK on July 15, 2011, 02:20:56 AM
Hi fellow Knopfler fans,

I've just written some lines about and for Danny Cummings on my website. I know it may come a bit late, but still, I just wanted to write them.

Of course those words belong to me and for what it's worth, anyone is free to think what they want about it.

However, if you want to leave a message to Danny, feel free to do it, I'll pass the message to the man in question.

The page is : http://www.killtogetartwork.com/Kill_to_get_artwork/Danny.html

Thanks for him!

Nico

Does any of you know why Danny won't be part of the band anymore? I liked Danny and it's a pity that he won't be playing now!

I hope there isn't a serious health problem with him or one of his family members!.......... That would be terrible!

No, Fieneke, nothing like that. It's just that they tried Ian during the Bap Kennedy sessions, and Glenn and Ian clicked. I guess they (Glenn and MK) think Ian is a better drummer.

Where did this info come from?

Nico,

Thanks for that incredible video of DC.  I appreciated very much what you wrote.  Me too, I feel a sense of incomplete with the line up without DC.

Speedway was absolutely a highlight of GL Tour.  I could feel shivers down my spine every time I listen to that powerful solo.

The crescendo of Speedway with DCs drumming makes me go cold and the hairs stand up on my neck as it nears the final 2 bars and that last mighty punch of the drums is music in itself. The guy is a percussion genius, he may not be peoples preferred choice, he certainly is mine but he is a nice guy too. One of the best.

I totally agree with you all. Will miss Danny too. He is a great drummer, great percussionist and especially a great person.
He adds a lot on stage, not only music, but also fun.

I'm not a professional drummer so don't feel equipped to comment on his drumming but I do know that his personality shone through on stage every time I saw him and I think it is important that every band has someone that can have a bond with the fans.  It was always Danny when they took their bows at the end.  Hope to see him down the road some time again...

I really loved Danny both as a drummer, percussionist and as a lovely person.

I will really miss him (Mr Horsepower) being in the band, taking his bow at the end of the concert, all sweaty, MK wringing out his T-shirt!

I hope we will see him in the band again one day.

I suppose the new chap must be percieved as the better drummer. Why else drop Danny?

Danny will always be a top man in my book. So nice and friendly and, as said previously, when he goes into Mr Horsepower mode, he is brilliant. I love watching his face during Speedway on the ATRR DVD. Pure joy written all over it.

Even if we don't see him back with MK, I'm sure he'll remain a part of Guy's Blues Band thing and we'll see him there.
