I suppose it's a compliment to DS, but quite nauseating!    :disbelief

I just can't stand bands like that. Then again, I don't have one pop album in my collection.

I thought that was a nice tribute to Mark, and Jon Bon Jovi is a huge MK fan, he has said in lots of interviews about how much he admires Mark and his music, and the song Always has a line taken directly from R&J "I can't sing a love song, like the way its meant to be" I remember reading an interview with JBJ and he said that R&J is one song he would love to have written himself.

Personally I love any form of tribute to MK/DS from a famous artist. This is no exception as far as I'm concerned. Again, Mark Knopfler will forever go down in history as a real musicians, musician. He is a legend and deserves all kind of tributes where possible.

I agree with the above. Even that I detest bands like Bon Jovi, and that Metallica's version of BIA was simply awful, it is nice that Mark gets the recognition.

The idea itself is ok, it is just that I just can't stand this guy, so sorry for my yuk.

I really liked The Killers version of R & J and I agree that it is great that other bands pay tribute to MK by playing his songs.

THANK YOU! My thoughts exactly.

Why are there so many people who dislike Bon Jovi, anyway?

Why are there so many people who dislike Bon Jovi, anyway?

Because they're a bland, derivative over-hyped and over-commercialised cock-rock band.

But JBJ likes MK, so that's OK.

So I am a fan of a bland, derivative over-hyped and over-commercialised cock-rock band. Fine, I can live with that. Because I know there are FAR worse bands out there.

Hmm, well, it's much, much better compared to R&J performed by the killers. Although I like the killers, their version of R&J is horrible... ::)

Anyway, I like JBJ too. Ah, well, his music, most of it then. ;D

Can't stand The Killer's version of R&J, either. It sounds overproduced and polished. Bon Jovi's version sounds honest.

I don't like both Bon Jovi and covers of Mark's songs, but this video didn't annoy me, it's strange enough ???

JB is who he is. Yes his band is mainstream stadium pop rock. And I dislike the commercial road they have taken. But they all play their guitars on their own, as does MK. And they worked hard to get where they are. Just as MK. I don't expect you to like Bon Jovi. But just think about it.

By the way I'm pretty sure 90 percent of the JB haters here would totally dig him if he decided to collaborate with MK tomorrow.

Sure they deserve respect. I have several good friends who are huge fans of Bon Jovi and it's true that 100 Million Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong (c).
I don't like the music they make and Jon's voice, but awareness of Jon's attitude to Mark makes me feel more tolerant to him and his band.
It's easy to scold a musician if you don't like his music, and it's hard to admit that he is just out of your circle of likes... My weak point always.

I used to like the early Bon Jovi stuff until his "New Jersey" cd, good hard rock, but then they turn themselfs in a soft rock / AOR band, pretty boring to me. But if the man says he admires Mark Knopfler and he wish he would had written R & J, well, Respect!!!!

That's a Jon Bon Jovi song. He did the Blaze Of Glory OST alone. And got nominated for an oscar BTW. MK never was.

I never understood what rule them to make one or another song nominated, nomination for Oscar is not evidence for a quality (subjective or objective) of a song  ::) I always wonder why they make the choice they make  ???
I'm not about BJ's song now, just wanna say that argument with oscar is not very potent  ;)

I'm just trying to put things into consideration here. Pity so very few people are willing to discuss objectively.

well, that's the essence of music, isn't it, it is anything but objective. It's all about feelings and what it does to you.

and can somebody tell me the difference between bon jovi and bon jovi? Blaze of glory is not a bon jovi song but a bon jovi song?  ???

Put differently, Jon Bon Jovi is the guy, Bon Jovi only (named after him obviously) is his band. Plenty complicated considering that you sometimes only use surnames for artists. Not recommended here  ;D

I'm just dicking around. Dont get offended by me. But since you ask. I dont know all there songs, but I do know there genre and style and its not my cup of tea. Thats the same reason I dont like alot of artists. It would be very hard if you had to listen every song an artist has done before you are allowed to form an opinion.

Wow, how do you know. Have you listened to them all??

:) Right, his dad is Italian.

Jon Bon Jovi has released two solo albums by the way, the Blaze Of Glory OST and Destination Anywhere. They are both worth having a listen.
And as for the Blaze Of Glory OST, there are some nice guest appearances by Little Richard, Jeff Beck and Elton John.

Richie Sambora's Stranger In This Town is also a very good blues album. The song "Mr Bluesman" features Eric Clapton.

I don't really have anything against Bon Jovi in the same way that I do against, say, Phil Collins or Michael Buble. I think Living on a prayer, Blaze of Glory and Keep the faith are good singles.

But overall they're just a fluff pop-rock band, no depth to them and certainly not worthy of three pages of discussion on AMIT. :)

As for not being nominated for an Oscar, previous winners include Three Six Mafia, Barbara Striesand and... Phil Collins. So MK is in good company IMO.

Well the thread title indicates it's MK related, if you like it or not, so...
Also, does that mean only intellectually challenging musicians are worth three pages on AMIT?  ;D

Start one on Celine Dion and I'll get it up to 10 pages on my own.
