Title: Neil Dorfsman
Post by: sak4 on August 08, 2011, 07:40:49 PM

If this hasn't already been posted

From GF Forum

"Hello Doc, Greetings again from sunny San Diego, I hope all is well. I wanted to share with you an interesting little story by "'Neil Dorfsman on making BIA". Scroll down a little... who's the bloke white shirt and sunglasses? :-) "

"Yes, we were sailing uncharted waters in those days, in many ways. Not least the horrors of the then very new digital multi-track tape."

Interesting article, sorry I couldn't do the link properly

Thanks for that - a very nice dip into nostalgic territory.

Yeah thanks, though I remember reading it some months (years?) ago.

So this is the guy I can thank for twisting Mark's mind and in the end "sacking" Terry, right?

I mean Omar's not bad at all, but Terry is Terry and e.g. Ride Across is much better live with him for me (and all other songs :)

Read it before but it's always nice to read again.

Very harsh on Terry, but you can't really argue with the end result. The drums on BiA are fantastic.

Also interesting that Guy Fletcher supposedly came up with the intro to MFN - we all know that Alan Clark was the real creative genoius behind Dire Straits.

Still don't believe that MFN was a Les Paul Junior though, I think Dorfsman made a mistake.

Yeah, was just thinking the same thing. How could Neil say such a blasphemy, we all know that all ideas in all songs are MK's ;D      (at least Sting got credit for the song)

I find it interesting to read about this so "famous" Air Studio Montserrat. When you think about it, apart from the great desk it had nothing special that made it a really great studio - without regard to the phantastic island and the weather... So producing such a great album in such a limited place is possible, whereas on the other hand, not every superior studio automatically churns out superior albums...  ::)
