Tomorrow august 26 will be the 20th aniversary date of the street release of the Calling Elvis/Iron Hand single.

I was on hollydays in the great Scotland country and bought the cassette single version to be able to listen to it on my walkman from release day without to have to wait to be back home.

I was very happy by what I heard and did  wait for the album very confident that it would be a great one.

And you?

I bought the CD single.  I remember vividly that on the way home (I was with my parents) we stopped at my aunt and uncle's home and she told me that I could listen to it on her hi-fi.  I also remember being slight disappointed by it being more into the earlier sound at the time but it soon grew on me!  I also remember that my aunt liked it very much! :lol

Ha, ha, great topic, I knew immediately within a second what it was about because I thought about doing something similar last week or so...
I do have the vinyl single, but strange enough, I do not remember where I got it and when. I do however remember very well the day I was able to listen to a radio special on Dutch radio where Calling Elvis and the title track On Every Street was played (and praised). A day later German radio ndr2 played
Iron Hand, Calling Elvis and Millionaire Blues in a little special, and I was totally nuts! I of course recorded it and listened to it a thousand times until the album came out! Those were great days! All this excitement!

Thanks for the reminder!  ;)

can't remember if I bought the single before the album (probably) but I remember fibbling around with my little walkman radio on a train back home from Germany, trying to find a good station (by good I meant that I could hear at least). Just heard the 3 final notes of a song and then the DJ said "you've just heard the new Dire Straits single". aaaarrrrrggghhhh!!!

Leaving out Millionaire Blues and Kingdom Come, including My Parties, not even recording I Think I Love You Too Much, man what was he thinking?  ;D

I was 18 years old and the excitement of the follow up to BIA was tremendous....

I recall feeling very underwhelmed by the single and the CD, with the exeption of Planet of New Orleans, and my feelings haven't changed much!

I then lost interest in Marks work right up until about 3 yrs ago! Crazy fool!!! :)
