Yeah yeah everything was better way back then. It is not true that children today have no imagination. It is 50 years since then. I have reservations evey time I think about John Lennon as a genius. He and the other Beatles were great "drug ambassadors" as well, something which is not too positive in terms of influence on kids etc. Just my two cents of course. Plus I like And Your Bird Can Sing much more. :)

Yes, differences aside, he is John Lennon. Anybody remembers Jesus? Of course He didn't have any hit records back in the sixties...

John was a great musician and The Beatles were the best band ever (not my favourite band - and there is a difference :) ), but yes, he had a very nasty side.

I do get the difference dusty. As a long now divorced friend of mine used to describe, "I love my wife, but I have to have other women too." But it is quite unfair to even try and compare the Beatles, even with the Stones that share the same time frame. MK came almost 20 years later, from their initial recordings. So no contest there. But I really like their records ( as a whole, not just collected singles) from the White album. Revolver was fine and Sg Pepper had a certain appeal, but all the previous records have more historical value, for helping pop music evolve. Of course I can listen the red collection with great pleasure. Do not know. I have all their records, but have trouble listening to their first ones.

For me, Abbey Road is as good as it gets,
But that doesn't mean I have a problem listening to Can't Buy Me Love. You would need to be on crack to not want to listen to that. :)

You know that "Can't buy me love" has actually started way too many philosophical jokes.
Who needs love, with all these money.
Can't buy love, but can buy all the women you want.
It surely is the best substitute for love.
We can only desire what we don't have. So, if desire is the most powerful creative force, (repressed libido) we must always abstain from love, (actually the act).
Love is something you can't put a price on, so no matter how much money you have, you can't buy it. But maybe if you make a good offer...
And yes from the White album onwards, they were pretty amazing. Even the pseudo album magical mystery is great.

Remember the "documentary" The Rutles? Somewhere Eric Idle asks a famous poet from Liverpool if he had ever met The pre-fab four. The answer is Yes, and it is actually the only question he asks him. Then Eric goes on describing the[oets work and at the end he says something like: "And football wise of course as everybody here in Liverpool, they were with Everton". ;D
The only thing to ask rusty, is where exactly does he place DS and MK in the "best band" list, and where does he place the Beatles in the "favourite band" list. ;)
