Hi all,
Just wondered if any of you have seen this before and what do you think. Nice to have yet another great artist covering Knopfler's work :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTTv_0Oa46Q&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Already covered for his studio album Hiding, in 1979 and also when side guitarist for Eric Clapton on his 1980 Live LP "Just One Night"
Great vid, great version.
-
Waylon Jennings did a great country version
as well. I have it on Lp somewhere.
Here it is.

Albert Lee Rocks! I love his cover !!!
I recall a funny memory !
I've been invited to Dance on his stages a couple of years ago ! Hahah !
(It was Bill Wyman's tour actually and that's Mick Sanchez who took me on stages lol)
-
Then there's the fantastic Notting Hillbillies
versions. Absolutely superb Telecaster picking!!!

Can't seem to find it on YouTube though!

So, that's a resounding yes then ;)
It's a totally different groove on the Albert Lee version. Great though :)

Of course. Come on, what do you take me for. Lol
On that same subject though, I was in my local HMV
store last year, flicking through the cd's as you do,
& you know that they put black plastic dividers between
each artist, with the name of each artist on, well, they had
only spelled Dire Straits like Dire Straights!! >:(
I was horrified. I told the assistant, who didn't really seem
that bothered.
Honestly, the youth of today!

Yeah, the same goes for Marc Knopfler. Whereas everybody should know it's Marck! ::)

Nice versions of a great song! I wonder, when was the last time MK played it live?

Let's not forget..'Mark Knofler'..can't tell you how many times I've seen that one...grrrr ! >:(

Albert Lee is such a phenomenal singer and player. He deserves a lot more recognition. However, he really should quit using the chorus effect in his guitar sound ...
-
Digression ...
Albert Lee is of course most famous for his hot country picking, but his slow lyrical playing is equally awesome. Not dissimilar to Mark's phrasing. Check this out:

i remember how surprised i was when i bought the clapton live thingy with setting me up on it, brilliant cover, that has been my favorite clapton record for ages..
-
This is the best MK forum. The guy asked if we knew about Albert Lee's version, and we simply covered him up with all the info available. :D
Now let's try something similar with "Lions", one of my favorite songs. ;)
As for dairy straights ;D I guess it is like the sort of names tribute bands use, in order to attract attention while at the same time making clear that they are not the genuine thing, all in a playful and elegant way. Do not dare think what an MK tribute band would call themselves.

To me this sounds a bit like a Notting Hillbillies song.
I think it's the song called 'Hobos Lullaby'
Anyone else think that?

Yeah, there are some similarities. Similar vibe. And there's a lick in there that Mark also plays (di li di li di liiii - haha).
