Are apps becoming the new rock and roll?
3 Major acts released apps this week, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Sting.

Anyone using them?

It's funny how the personal PC started as very application centric machine...then we moved everything over to the web....but now "the web is dead" and we're back to applications only they're on new devices like ipads or smart phones. Tbh, I don't quite get the new move- how much more can you do with an app that you can't already do over the web? I suppose in some cases, a lot, but I find a lot of the apps for mobile devices to be pretty pointless.

Some are indeed quite pointless and ill thought out, but many format content on a website so it is actually useful and attractive on a small screen, in my experience.
I haven't found many useful music apps however, mostly just sports and news apps.

No apps for me please, thank you very much. Buying the same product over and over, is something I really hate. If I buy a CD by Hendrix, why should I pay again for MP3, apps or whatever. Music is made to be listened. You put the CD in the machine and enjoy. And (almost) the same stands for vinyl. For god's sake, this is the new way to make money from recordings that have already sold by the trackload, since they can not find the new Hendrix, Floyd or Sting. (Well actually for Sting...)

There is a free magazine App called Premier Guitar. I'm yet to see what the catch is, but when viewed on an iPad it's basically as nice an experience as reading the magazine. Even the ads are high quality and nice to scan as a guitarist.
All the back issues are there too, so for instance June 2010 has that nice pic of Mark on the Get Lucky tour. August 2011 has Keith Urban singing the Knops praises and inspiration.
Highly recommend this app if you are a guitar player.
