MK#6 and Dylan#1.
It looks like all of us have made huge mistakes recently. :lol
I will get a NME subscription, learn about good music and go for Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Beyonc

File this one under "W"..for "Who the f**k cares!" ::)
-
I dare you to post that on the expecting rain forum, those nutters will probably take a hit out on the writer.

Hehe, that list was fun ;D I like MK and His Bobness, my wife likes Duffy and one of my sons thinks he is MJ 8) We're the family of bad taste, obviously :disbelief :)
-
I was only saying to my wife this morning, the way pop idols are produced these days would rob the world of artists like Mark, who is loved by millions.
It's not to say Mark couldn't get a start behind a microphone if he was starting out, but it might never hit mainstream radio and therefore many people would never hear it. :-[

Yup who cares..... Knopfler has a wonderful voice which has improved dramatically over the past 34 years. Anyone who has Heather Small in that list should too be dismissed from writing such a thing in the first place.
-
Another thing, I can't believe Romeo & Juliet was his pick of a bad vocal.... What a numpty. Mark sings that song better than anyone.
-
Hahaha LOL! What a funny man, he must have a terrible taste in music! ;D

Why is MK on this list and Tom Waits isn't???

Why is MK on this list and Tom Waits isn't???
I didn't get that either..he even mentions Waits in the article! :disbelief. I mean seriously..how about Geddy Lee..I prefer fingernails on a chalkboard over his 'singing'. ;)
-
I've always been of the opinion that the best singers are the distinctive ones and not the technically good ones of which there are millions and even more millions once they get into a recording studio. The distinctive ones are few and far between and will not be to everyones taste but they will have their fanbase. Technically good singers are ten a penny and will die overnight.

I remember how my neck hair stood up and I got literally goosebumps (really!) when I suddenly and unprepared heard the first lines of "Why Aye Man" on the radio for the first time... That voice of MK is totally unique and full of timbre, character and feeling. Who cares what a NME pimp has to utter about real music. He will never get to hear some.

I'd guess that MK or BD give a flying f#*& about these rankings. And so do I - like you did say, it's all about the feel.
EDIT:typo

Well, I don't get the list apart from numero uno. :lol And Tom Waits has a fantastic voice! Heather Nova, wow, she has a terrific voice, and that winter blue song of hers, with a tribute to Joni Mitchell's Blue, is stunning. But maybe the writer of this list has something else on his mind. Like shit.

Should be said that it isn't a "official" NME thing. Just a blog it seems.
-
yes, it's only somebody's opinion, which he is untitled to. And even if it was "official" (like, say the Rolling stones list of guitarists), it's still somebody's opinion, just like any review we may read.
