I ordered a VCD of "The videos", and I was very happy to have found it, because it is my favourite and more complete collection of DS and Notting hillbilies related videos. I already have it in Videotape and Laserdisc, but no machines to play them anymore.
Today it arrived, but surprise-surprise, 6 songs that were contained on the releases I already have, are missing. The missing ones : Skateaway, Twisting by the pool, So far away, Walk of life, Feel like going home, PI (live). Of course they add a song not available on the other releases - Your latest trick (live) but it hardly makes up for the loses, since it is from the On the night DVD.
I have never seen if there is a more complete DVD release, or even a double VCD edition containing all the tracks. And "The SOS - best of videos" is neither complete nor as satisfying. Of course it contains 3 songs not available in "the videos" (Lady Writer, On every street and Wild theme) but still I much prefer it.
Why they insist on not releasing the best video of MM, Skateaway, is beyond me. Too bad. And after the rather disaapointing Alchemy DVD & Blu-ray release, I see it is all a cash in. Any opinions?
Anyway, anyone has a DVD release of "The videos"?

I just copied my VHS version to DVD. :)

Now Superval, this is not very polite, making me jealous. :lol
Although you have not answer any of my inquires, have you noticed somewhere at the transitions between songs a publicity photo of David Knopfler, similar to the ones that appear on MM album? Pretty peculiar eh? Coming so close to the final release, as these publicity shots reveal, is a real shock. Something strange and big must have happened between the brothers, to force MK to erase all guitar parts and record them again. I don't really care about the gossip, just mentioning the fact. :'(

I also put my VHS to a DVD with a very very good result in terms of menus, bad that it cant be shared as its official even out of print.

I think that I might be able to come up with a DVD transfer, after all I am the rightful owner of 3 versions of the same material, but with no means to reproduce the two complete ones! >:( I guess from your answers, there has never been an official DVD release. Pity. I guess we can expect it eventually from Universal with added bonus material.
Your latest trick, which is available only on the video CD (all formats released in 1992) is actually a pre-view of the On the night version!
Thanks for the indirect offers! :lol

Just saw in Jeroen's site that there are two versions, one double (complete) and one more rare, the one that I got. Probably because it contains Your latest trick. But it is only a small consolation.

There is no dvd version and it wont happen because of the "Sultans of swing" compilation one. When a new greatest hits is released, the previous one became out of print. Same goes in the video/dvds cases.
MFN compilation is out of print because of SOS and then Private Investigations ones. Funny that SOS didnt become out of print, maybe its because Private Investigations is DS and MK, and not only DS.

Thank you jbaent. I am aware of that fact, but somehow it is rather odd, because the videos were never a music compilation, like SOS. That is why MFN was remastered in 1996 along with the rest of the discography.

I think it would be a waste to end this thread. So a related video with music and some clips from DS MFN video, introducing the new CD technology to the world!

Anybody ever seen or have the 1985 Philips TV commercial for CDs that star Dire straits and it was filmed in Brussels by Dream factory in March 1985?

Any ideas why the video for "The bug" is not included in the SOS videos? It was official, but was there any other contractual problem? I thought that the musician that commissions the video can use it freely, or isn't that so?
