I've become quite interested The Mars Volta lately. I just saw them two days ago in concert and they put on quite a show, although they seem to be heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin. You have to like progressive rock and progressive metal to enjoy them too.
Anyone else care to discuss the current non MK music that they have been listening to lately?

Paul Gilbert - Tribute to Jimi Hendrix (1994) [live at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival 02-Jun-1991]

Non MK music? What's that? ::)
aaah I know, you must be talking about John Hiatt!
-
I vary rarely stray from MK/DS, but when I do it's one of the following:
1. Chris Rea. Have his early stuff but got really hooked on his blues work starting with Dancing Down The Stony Road. Have seem him twice since at Plymouth Pavillions.
2. Guy Fletcher (need I say more?) :)
3. Paul Casey. Brilliant (IMO) singer/songwriter/guitarist. www.paulcaseymusic.com
That's about it really, I have a lot of other music but normally get hooked on one particular artist at a time.

A variety of classical music, I love just about everything! It was Mozart to-day.
Mary-Chapin Carpenter
Liam O'Flynn - "The Piper's Call", "The Given Note" "Out to An Other Side"
Manos Hadjadakis (35 songs of the Market Place) - gorgeous, dreamy, absolutely beautiful!
Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road
But always MK! - every day!

David Arkenstone (a New Age guy, the best of them, I write to that music), Bruce Hornsby, Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, can always get trapped by the local classical station if Vivaldi, Bach,Handel, Telemann, or Beethoven is playing (or La Mer; my favorite symphony), Pink Floyd/Gilmour, Andreas Vollenweider (another one I write to), Planxty (you guys that like Irish music, if you never heard them, I feel sorry for you; not together anymore, but Christy Moore at least is still touring, and Andy Irvine I believe), Levon Helm, EL&P, Midnight Oil (another great band since disbanded; I love their raw power and musicality), Peter Buffett (another New Ager, who incorporates a lot of Native American signatures in his music), R. Carlos Nakai (great music to go to sleep to, with a nod to a former thread)....but let's not think that MK takes a backseat to ANY of them. Lately KTGC, SL and RPD have not been too far away from my writing area either.

Snow Patrol is going down well. Follow Guy's link to the Coral and give them a listen if you don't know them. Brilliant. William Topley is looked after by PCM, like Mark, and he's a good listen too. BBK and Buddy Guy get me going. Puccinni's operas too.

Went over Steely Dan's discography, with great attention, not just the hits, amazing work!
Marvin Gaye's 3 albums from the 70ies (What's going on, Let's get it on and Here my dear) are always close
Dvorak's symphony no.9 which is a must for all rock fans
"Stella" by Yello
John Martyn discography
Then play on by Fleetwood Mac (the kind of album I have been waiting from MK to deliver)
Archive's "with us until you're dead" and the older works
Darren Hayman's "The Violence"
And many many more but probably no point in mentioning any more.

Klaas you amaze me!I thought Bryan Adams have snuffed it, and James Blunt celebrates in Bahames his wet handkerchiefs earned fortune. They are still around? Any good? Adams was pleasant enough before he did everything for her, but then it was just downhill, while beautiful Blunt was never my cup of poisoned tea. ;)

Tom Waits - At first I didn't like his style, but now I'm a big fan. Many great songs!
Elina Duni - An Albanian Jazz/Balkans Folk singer, she just released a new Album named "Matane Malit", I'd recommend anyone to give her a chance, you won't be disappointed by her talent.
-
Tom Waits raw voice and strange time signatures and instrumentations and production, reasonates with the balkan ear! I will look for Elina!
-
vgonis, her latest album is entirely in Albanian, but in her past albums she covered songs in Greek, Romanian, French, English...etc A true artist! You're going to like her for sure.
Tomorrow she's having a concert in my city! Great, isn't it? :)
-
Youtube has a lot of entries! I will give it a go when I have a clear head! Thanks!

I like American ladies. Gretchen Peters is a real talent. Lucinda Williams too.Iris DeMent I think is good, esp Infamous Angels. Main lady on the car CD just now is Sinead O'Connor.
-
Before anyone starts I know Sinead is not American. ;D

listening to the 10 CD box of Stax records 1958-1968 (or something alike) in my car for the past month..great stuff.
