Title: Lulu Kennedy
Post by: Jackal on April 26, 2012, 10:16:48 AM
Isabella Knopfler wrote on Facebook that her cousin is Lulu Kennedy (fashion entrepreneur Lulu Kennedy, not singer Lulu Kennedy-Cairns). Lulu was born in Newcastle in 1969 (this is all official information) and "hippies" for parents.

Anyone knows how Lulu is related to Mark? Or is she on Kitty's side of the family?

Mark's sister, Ruth's married name is Kennedy, so presumably Lulu is Ruth's daughter and, therefore, Isabella's cousin.   :)

Ruth Kennedy (Mark's sister) would be 65 yo now - so unless she is particularly youthful, I doubt that's the same person.

The label on the quilt says RK 1972, but the person above looks too young imo to be Lulu's mother!

The Ruth Kennedy above is married to Paul Dundas, also pictured and they have a small son, so although there is mention of interior design, etc, it is definitely nothing to do with MK's family!   This person looks even younger than Lulu, who would be her daughter!   ::)

I hope I will not cause anger, talking about Ruth, as the main subject is "Lulu Kennedy"  ;)

I just want to say that I always felt strange that Ruth isn't mentionned (even one word) in the Oldfield's book.

Of course, it's in the private domain for the Knopfler family, but when Oldfield talks about the 2 Knopfler brothers, their birthdate, their origin, he coould have wrote just a line about their sister ?

maybe Mark asked him to not write even 1 word about her ?

I think it's OK to divert from the original topic, especially if there's not much to add to the original topic. If the original topic is still hot, I think we could be better at returning to it. So, when we make a digression, we should end the post with something like "sorry, back to the topic". But this also the editors' job, and I must say they have been very absent for the last year or so.

The thing about this topic is that we get to know more about MK family...

We have:

Ex-wife: Lourdes Salomone and their sons Joe and Ben

Wife Kitty and their daughters Isabella and Katya

Brother David, that has some kids that I dont know, and ex wife (Anna) and a girlfriend (Cant remember his name, its in facebook)

Sister Ruth, that has a daughter, Lulu.

From a logical distance, is nice to know some of this things, as it makes MK (at least for me) looks more like a real person and not just a famous musician  :)

Mark has another ex-wife, his first one, the one who gave him the inspiration for most of the 1st DS album (water of love, setting me up, six blade knife) and I think also where do you think you're going and follow me home

Yes I posted the article about Kathy's son - I still have the article somewhere, it was on the Thomas Gygax site and was from The Daily Mail on March 1st 1997.    The son was called Samuel Knopfler, but later changed to Webster - the father's name.

In fact the link is still there on this page:

Title: Re: Lulu Kennedy
Post by: superval99 on May 02, 2012, 03:02:20 PM
I'm sure I posted the whole thing, but here is the missing part:

"On Valentine's Day, in a secret ceremony on Barbados, attended only by his sons and a couple of friends, he tied the knot for the third time, to his girlfriend of four years, Kitty Aldridge.  Like him, Aldridge is no stranger to broken relationships.  Her first marriage, to South African director and Left-wing activist Neal Sundstrom, in many ways resembled the fated idealism of Mark and Kathy's.

Kitty and Neal dreamed of making political movies about South Africa - but in the late eighties, no one was interested.  They put up their house and car as security for the production and lost the lot when it bombed.  Unsurprisingly, the marriage crumbled.  Since then Kitty has risen to professional prominence by playing the lead female role in the BBC's adaptation of Michael Dobb's acclaimed political thriller To Play the King.  And she has lived with Knopfler, whom she met through racing driver Alain de Cadenet, one of the rock star's best friends, in 1991.  The couple are well suited.  Like Knopfler, Kitty is understated.  She dresses grungily and hates giving interviews.  The daughter of middle-class parents, who worked in oil, her friends tend to be bright, upper middle-class intellectuals, such as writer Esther Freud and the Earl of Lonsdale's niece, Camilla Lowther.  They live in Knopfler's Chelsea mansion and when they walk around the streets no one recognises them.  'Once', jokes his manager Ed Bicknell, 'a woman came up to him and said "You look just like Mark Knopfler".  He turned round and, laughingly, said "I wish I had his money"'.  One wonders, naturally, whether that wish is now echoed by Kathy Webster, who refuses to talk of her first marriage.  For a long time, it is said, she did not even tell Sam about Mark.  But then it is perhaps no good for either of them to dwell on the past.  For if Kathy hadn't betrayed him, Romeo and Juliet and the millions that it made for Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits might never have been."

I would take all of that article with a pinch of salt, because I think there are many inaccuracies and it 's just typical tabloid journalism.
