Title: Woody Guthrie
Post by: sak4 on July 19, 2012, 11:07:35 AM
Saw a good programme recently on TV about Woody Guthrie, had heard of him and his influence but new little about him.   It was very intersting about the social background in the 20s in the US and his polemics - he certainly had a huge influence on people like Peter Seeger, Bob Dylan, Ry Cooder many more right down to MK.

Its good to fill out your knowledge a little bit more

The Marbletown lyrics have the perfect Woody Guthrie-hobo-setting for me.

Very much so, and Old Pigweed - in fact it shapes the whole of Ragpickers Dream

Love that song.  So wish that tour hadn't been cancelled;  the charity concerts in 2002 proved he was in great shape.  I had my tickets and was all set to go.  Maybe still hear it next tour...  There is one live performance on NRK television though.
