Title: Privateering promo
Post by: Rolleyway Man on August 06, 2012, 09:39:14 PM
Just thought it'd be an idea to start a thread dedicated to promo appearances for the Privateering album.  Perhaps here we can list any upcoming appearances by MK on radio stations and/or TV shows over the release period, so we can avoid missing any interviews or performances?

This article is not interesting because of the text, but the picture.

Must be one of the artworks for the new album. Click on the picture to enlarge it, it's great.

I saw a 30 sec or so promo as one of those ads when you are buffering a Youtube clip. Possibly the first time I didn't hit 'skip this ad'  ;D

Mark in a studio talking about the meaning of song Privateering, and playing a bit solo acoustic.

Didn't know how to save it or how to find it again :-[

Sorry for my bad english:

Still a kid, thats what he says of himself. And he recommend it: Its a very important part of yourself, the one that refuses to grow up. He take care of that everyday with his "toys": the motorbikes and guitars.

Mark Knopfler has around 70 guitars, he doesnt know the exact number "I received most of them as gifts, now there is a Fender with my name and signature on it, I love it!" He also has some sportif motorbikes abnd a comfortable BMW "With the sportif all your body aches after ride them" admits. Some years ago he had a bike accident and the car driver was declared gilty and he thought better about speed since. The age, although he tries to stay in chilhood, brings more care with it. And he also has 63 years old and four sons now, Knopfler is also an OBE "Frightening, isnt it? My mom loves it. Now I got two doctorates, without studing annything!. Those titles comes from his career in music, obviously, but he was also a journalist for a while, he says he learnt a lot about life and about writting songs at that time "Journalism teachs you to write things in a short space. Condense reality in three verses or a title is not so different" He choosed "Privateering" as his new album title. "I like to be on charge of the band when we are on tour, explains. He alsomention that he does is work alone, without any governmental help. "They dont help me, like they do with opera and ballet. There is no money for the kind of music I play"

XLSemanal. In his new songs there are references to economy: The kingdom of gold, the high priest of the money...

Mark Knopfler. Yes, maybe its more on this record. The high priest of money is based on a character that I already had on mind

XL. Any names?

M.K. It would be someone that works for the government now but he used to work for banks before. You know what kind of guy I

Without Dire Straits he would not be there where he is. This is part of the story and have to live with.
Questionning about the DS days  is not wrong.
Only 10 minutes allowed interview is.

You must be biased (your nickname says it all ...  :lol ) but I really think Dire Straits is history. I mean, he has released more solo stuff than Dire Straits stuff in the meantime. And when there is a promo interview about Privateering, I still think it is wasted time.

Thanks a lot, Ustas! It is nothing new in it, though. I would dare to say it is an interview from 2010... He says exactly the same stuff about the old songs, no cabaret, own studio now, and so on. At the end, they translate that in the meantime one of his twin sons helps him in the studio - which doesn't bother him, because he is so fast...  ??? ??? ??? Mixed in with some stuff from the new EPK, it looks very new - but look at his hair: I bet it is not a new interview!
But the Lady has the CD in her hands!!!  :o :o :o

You are right about the laugh - the scene in the (new) epk where he hums during "shaving" or he tells the joke "what else have you got" is really great - and he laughs in such a heartwarming way! Love it.

This is what - norway? Sweden? Danmark?  ::)

You are right about prime time. The time right in front of the main news show ("Tagesschau") is the most
expensive one. I talked to a book promoter the other day and we talked about the "launch" of Joanne K. Rowlings new novel in Germany - and that book gets some spots at 19:59h, too. One million only for advertising - for a book...

Mark's spots are usually not so well made in my opinion...
