When Get Lucky was released, Isaac (I think you've all heard of him) was staying at my house for a while, and we had the chance to listen to GL for the first time together. It was a great experience to share that with a fellow fan, and I'd love to experience that again for the upcoming release of Privateering. So, I'd like to ask you who'd be interested in coming to my place (in Delft) on either August 31 or September 1 to listen to Privateering together? (I realize this is mainly feasible for the Dutch fans, sorry about that.) Let me know if you're interested!

Great idea but 31st is impossible for me >:(
1st would do but then there's the possibility we both have to wait one day ??? That's a real challenge
-
beetje ver joh, om een plaatje te komen beluisteren :-)
-
but maybe i can go to ingrid on friday, and come to you with her on the 1st? driks ingrid? ;-)
-
I think that is a really nice idea! :) I wish I could go, too, but that is a little too far to go for me...

On Fridaynight I have a party from politics from south netherlands. I already told them I would come and Johan likes to go too. But you can come and I will get you from the train and we have a pint or two in the pub. Then I have a good reason to not stay till late there :D
Starts to sound really good to me, we can go to Delft around noon or so (I am afraid the 2 pints could be more ;D)
-
kay. let's keep this in the back of our minds. :lol :lol
-
OK, this is a bit unfair for the rest of us! :D
So, how about coming to Greece on the 13th of September (I guess by then my copy will be here) and we can listen to it together. ;D
Or maybe you can bring your own copy with you! I offer nice Greek beer!
-
Can someone break this video and upload it on youtube?
-
By the way, listening to the snippets of the song "Privateering" it reminded me of "Back to Tupelo". Anyone else?
-
I had the same idea with Camerado (Remco) who live in Rotterdam. Let's see how things work out in a couple of weeks... Maybe the album leaks next week, and we can't resist it ;)
Then we know the complete album before the release.
-
It would be nice to gather together on the 1st of September and spend the saturday on listening/discussing with a group.
We have to promise eachother that we won't listen to a leak others than the snippets.
I think it will be a special experience :D
-
Thats a great idea, I

I got a summer job, after being out of work for almost a year. So no matter how good the weather is I can only complain about being to hot (42 ) to work. ;)
No the weather is fine from March to November, with 20 days of high temperatures during the summer. But we get some snow and low tempratures during the winter time. All in all it is not raining all the time and if you have time and money to spend it is like heaven. ;)
Dutchessy, if you consider coming or moving, it is the best place in the world that I know of. (and being modest about it ;D )

Have been in Greece 1 time (2007). Plakias, Kreta(Crete), for 15 days summer holiday. It was nice but very hot....

Ever been to Scotland! Ironically it was roasting today and has been all week! 8)

Dutchessy, you have been to one of the most beautiful places in Greece, but at the same time one of the hottest! Crete has an almost tropical weather, only saved by the fact that it is an island. It is the only place in Greece where they grow bananas! But it is great most of the year, when it is not so hot.
It is a strange thing, the weather, that proves that the global climate is changing: we had two heatwave s with high temperatures, but what makes it worse is that we have high humidity at the same time. Athens used to be the idea place in the last century, to bring people with tuberculosis to heal, because it had a mild climate with very low humidity. Now these extremely hot days you can't breath and at the same time the sun burns your skin from second one!!!
Still, in September it is very nice and if any of you happen to be in Greece, I will be more than happy to meet you and listen to the new album together. And some older for that matter, or even from other artists!!! ;D
-
dude, if ever i should go on holiday to greece you will be my first point of contact. (even though i would not put athens on my "holiday" list, and yes i do know my history, having had 8 years of "old greek" :lol )

I guess you mean classic greek. I studied classic greek two years as well in High School, but cant remember anything.
-
Old, classic, whatever dude, eight yrs! :lol

I started with that as well, got bored in 10 seconds so I went to the more beta-part ;D
Don't regret it till now

So far only ingridswing confirmed to come over to Delft on Saturday September 1 in the afternoon to share the experience of listening to Privateering for the first time (unfortunately Pottel had to cancel). I think this fantastic forum can do better than this. So, who is going to join us that afternoon for a great experience. I'll take care of lunch and/or dinner if you'd like that. BTW, I won't be listening to any snippets or (leak of) the album before the first of September.
-
Maybe I will, but it's a far ride for me. I'm living near Zwolle (Kampen)
-
As said to Ingrid, I need to join my daughter at her school party....

I understand it's far away, but it would be great if you could make it. ingridswing will be in Delft around 13:00, so there's plenty of time to get back home.

Sorry you can't make it, but family is important too.
-
I should've remembered it before making these plans, this school party was agreed upon ages ago
-
Come on Dutchessy, it's not that far and you can come by train too, I can get you from and to the train.
I think it's fun to listen together, discuss and listen again and so on and so on :D
-
I have to work untill 13.00 :(

I have to work untill 13.00 :(
Cancel that Lars. We can travel together...
-
And how long is your travel Lars, we can delay it. No need for me to start at that time
-
Important point is... We receive the album at the 31st.
Probably early in the morning. (Kunnen we er dan met de poten vanaf blijven? :lol)
-
I have to travel(by train) 3 hours and 22 minutes so I can be there as early as 1700 or so.. Quite a long trip :-X

Hahahaha!

Fine by me, I will ask Jeroen. Do you both come when we delay it to 1700?
And yes, stay away from the CD, go to the pub get drunk or whatever :P But don't listen :lol

Problem is that we have to travel back for 3 hours... Then we have to leave at 20.00 or something.
6 hours travelling for 3 hours in Delft. :disbelief Why is this country so big? :lol
-
Both of you don't drive a car? Then it's only 1 3/4 hour
-
What about a chat room set up on a specific release (or leak) date so we can all discuss song by song? Just a thought 8)

-
So how was it? Did you all really manage NOT to listen to the album before??
LE
-
Hi LE,
We didn't listen to the album before. I have listened to the snippets, Jeroen didn't.
Because of a huge delay because of traffic, accidents, roadworks, biketour and bridge open (this is true) I arrived very late (travelled 2,5 hours, it was only 95 kilometers) we decided it was allowed to listen to the bonus songs.
It was really great! Next time again, and I won't listen to snippets either. They don't do right to the songs at all.
The way back was 3/4 of an hour, that's too fast but who cares ;D
-
It was really great. It's fantastic to share this experience with another fan. Next time again for sure.
-
Is there a thread on here where we can discuss the songs from Privateering? i can't find one.

"Favourite Songs" in the Privateering section may be what you're looking for. There's also a thread in the same section where we're discussing what the songs are about (can't recall the title right now) but I'm sure it'll become obvious if you look.
-
Thanks

Not exactly the correct thread, but I didn't want to open a new one only to tell you this platitude:
Today, after some very busy days (and weeks), I finally really and unexpected found time and muse to put on the new album onto my hi-fi system - and listen to it properly and with perfect volume (all neighbours were off) - and boy what a difference that makes!
I am not a high-end freak, but I know when something sounds good, and these songs really do! Even "After The Beanstalk" finally gets some quality for me! Haul Away, Redbud Tree, and also all the Blues songs really sound fabulous! It all has to do with bliss and savour! It is not about skipping through it, judging song by song as soon as possible - just let it flow, and enjoy! Do your ears some favour! I really thought Glen was standing in my living room with the big lady herself! 8)
So, that was my platitude of the day! Keep on reading and writing the real important stuff!! :D

Hey LE - I did exactly the same thing yesterday afternoon! My neighbours were at work, so I decided to take the opportunity to play it on my hi-fi system and what a difference! I already knew I liked the album very much, but hearing it played on a proper system made it not just good, but amazing! I must do it more often and I think the secret is just to let the music wash all over you and you will be greatly rewarded! ;)
-
I did the same with Shangri La the other day, since there is still no sign of the album. ;)

I'm finally listening to Privateering, alone, and in good acoustic conditions on my hi-fi system !
Wooaww, it's absolutely beautiful !
