-

Guess you're out Kay ;D
-
I did it anyway
-
Aaaaargh why do I live in Holland
-
I didnt find the eligibility information, just the formulary, and the only requiered fields were Name and phone...
Now its their problem ;)
-
all i need is someone to record it. anyone? anyone? Bueller?
-
:disbelief :disbelief :disbelief Couldn't make it anyway... What a pity... I'll be at the hospital :disbelief :disbelief :disbelief
-
I hope nothing serious ? Get well soon !!!
-
It should be ok thanks 8)
-
Thanks for the tip off about this prize draw, I wonder if it's a special show like the Jools Holland gig Mark did for Golden Heart?
-
Never mind about the eligibilities of the entrants, what about the actual GIG!!! Must be a showcase type gig for promo of Privateering I would think? They say "secret" gig so I doubt it would be anything big like Jools Holland, but maybe something like the Bush Hall thing. If I recall Amazon did a competition for tickets for that one too. ???
-
recording!!!! 8)
-
The interesting fact...
Rehearsals for the Dylan tour are in september too...
If I was MK i will use this gig as a warm up gig for that tour, you have the boys in London rehearsing, so that will be the icing on the cake...
It would be nice if the gig is played by the real band instead of the promotion gang.

Well Danny wouldn't be able to make it anyway because he's in training for the next Olympic games! ;D
-
Your lucky Brits - wish all of you good luck to catch a ticket.
Is it again at Shepherd's Bush?
Hope for a couple of good pics to soothe our sadness. :'(
-
It should be ok thanks 8)
I wish you a good recovery.
-
Would be great if someone of you will make it to the show. I had two tickets for the Amsterdam KTGC showcase in 2007. It's one of those must have experiences in life so I know how it feels when winning such tickets. ;)
-
Just downloaded the iTunes festival app and the 26th September is still free. Maybe Mark will perform at the roundhouse in London?
-
Well it means I won't be there either, BUT I wish all of you in the UK good luck for winning the tickets!
Hhhhmmmm ........It must be great to have a little show with Mark and a few others! :P
Knopflerized I hope you don't have serious health problems and wish you get well soon! :-*
Hey I am just thinking about it ......*Yeahhh you all might think I am crazy*..... but imagine when there
once will be a special gig for AMIT members and for the fans who write at the other MK forums,
then sure the people who support him always have a change for a gig as this too! :P

Well I must be crazy too then because I was thinking the same thing! It occurred to me that this competition (being only open to Amazon UK) may be won by a very casual fan. Then I browsed this forum regarding the gig, saw the interest and thought it would be a nice idea if us, the real fans were invited. I mean we've bought the albums, tickets etc in the past and we'd enjoy it the most. Why not?
-
DMG - if you seriously believe that fans hoping for tx via Amazon are less deserving or "real" than the fans who post here, then you really do need to get a life imo.

I agree with you Difficulttobeleive, AMIT is not the only MK fans forum or association ! Spanish city, AFMK .... are also real fans !
-
pretty sure that was exactly what DMG meant, big fans like ourselves, wherever we are.
but people, anyone recording??
-
DMG - if you seriously believe that fans hoping for tx via Amazon are less deserving or "real" than the fans who post here, then you really do need to get a life imo.
Nonsense. ::)
That's not what he meant(and you probably know it), and i don't think there is any need to be rude-do you????
-
I know exactly what DMG means, it happened here in Holland before as well:
People winning tickets for the showcase. Most of them entered because of the name Dire Straits. After the showcase they were moaning: why not more DS songs, I didn't know he was solo, I didn't know most songs .......
I think that real fans LIKE we here in AMIT (and other fansites) deserve something like this more. We buy all CD's, most of us even more than one version. We go to concerts, a lot of us to more and some of us to a lot during the same tour.
-
All I meant was that I would rather see the competition winner be a genuine MK fan like ourselves who would really appreciate the prize than someone who has maybe never seen him live before and never bought an album. There are probably many genuine fans entering through Amazon as well as "tourists." :)
-

Ouch, harsh words imo.

If I win, I'll take my DAT.
-
Yes please, I will be in Iceland, otherwise I would give it a try through friends in the UK.
Hope I will hear a recording of it later, thanks in advance for the winning person who will record ...
That's a lot if if if ::)

I'll send you the DAT tape. ;)
To be honest it would be my first time recording from the audience so no promises of anything spectacular. I bought myself a Sony stereo microphone ECM-MS907 on eBay to accompany my Sony TCD-D8 DAT recorder and I've yet to try them out.
-
Sounds nice but I think a DAT won't fit in my PC, laptop, iPad, iPhone, carstereo, or home-surroundsystem.
It sounds I have a lot of stuff, but a DAT won't do :P :P
I will wait patiently for a recording ;)
And DMG just ask others here when it's your first recording, they will give you advice, help you working it out to a uploadable recording to give to us - inpatient but grateful waiting - fans :lol
Anyway a big hug from me for trying

DMG - at one point in your life, you had never seen MK or bought his music, yet you are a real MK fan. How did that come about? Your rationale doesn't hold up! Rant over. ;)

but how can I learn when I don't dare to ask? (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/Grinsmiley.gif) .............so here I go:
Ingrid I read that you and DMG are talking about DAT and I wonder what that is! Who is willing to explain?

In 2007 I was drawn for the one off Led Zep reunion.
I'm not a huge fan, only own the best of. For sure some "big" fans missed out at my expense. Do I feel guilty? Nope. That's life. You might get lucky now and then. :)

Thanks Ingridswing, I'll read it! .......You know, that is why I LOVE it to be a part of this wonderful group of friends/fans
for so many years! ......Without all the information, help and friendship with many of you, I never would have been a fan
of Mark as I am the last years and he only would have been an artist as so many others! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/Blowingkiss.gif)

Why should you feel guilty if you went along to see LZand decided you liked some other form of music better? Why would you feel guilty if you saw LZ for the first time in your life and became a "real fan" because you had never seen such talent before or believed it existed?Isn't the latter what happened when we all saw Mark for the first time?
The point of my original post was simply to point out that believing, or even feeling a little, that you are a "real fan", and that others who don't post on forums like this, are lesser fans, is a crock of shit.

Nope, some people just enter the comp because it is free and they have a chance to win something but in the end doesn't really care about what it is. There are no "better fan" than others but there are "bigger fan".
And the competition begins like this : Are you a huge Mark Knopfler fan? Here's a chance to see him perform just weeks after the release of new solo album Privateering.

Yuk. I didn't read all the rules. I entered. I figure if shangri-la or allen didn't enter, I should get a pass just for being the farthest away applicant. ;D
-
I'm not a "huge" Mark Knopfler fan. I'm a fan, but not huge. I'm only 5'6 1/2 and weigh 130 pounds. I must have eaten a silly grape today. :disbelief
-
Don't worry nothing too serious I stay only one day but l must go to Paris a day before, thanks all for your kind words
-
One of us almost always gets hold of tickets for those kinds of venues. If that person could. . . . if that person would. . . .
-
Haven't they released DVD's of such promotional concerts in the past? Or, at least, I've seen some good quality videos of them on Youtube. I wonder if anything like that will be done for this concert.
-
competitions for promotional showcases are open to everybody because they ARE intended to raise the sales of a new album by addressing possibly new fans.
However...
I see it too often that people enter such competitions just because they have a chance to win free tickets and because it's always nice to win something.
And when they win, they don't attend the showcase, because they didn't have to pay for the tickets and maybe aren't in the mood to go that evening... ::)
And that's what bothers me very often.
Or they go there for chatting during the whole set... :disbelief
Being a fan or what size (or weight... :D ) of a fan has nothing to do with it and is not measurable anyway imo :P
-
Exactly. However, being rude has something to do with manners and behaviour, and it could have been said in a somewhat nicer way. Kudos to dmg for being so cool and relaxed and not taking any offence in it obviously. I persoanlly would have gone ballistic by being called a "get-a-lifer" just because of that statement - and then, above all, have been told "rant over" after my first reply.

John McCusker has tweeted that he will be in London for 3 weeks from today for rehearsals with MK. Seems an awful long time! More shows before US tour? Full band will be around for Amazon show it seems.

Finnish radio station has a competition and prize is a trip to Mark
-
There was a little competition on a small cheesy German radio station today - you could win 2 tickets for a gig in front of 100 guest on September 25th... they described it on their homepage as "dress rehearsal before the Dylan tour"... You had to send them a mail why it would you who should have the chance to win ... I did so... and waited in front of the radio for about 2 hours from 16:00 to 18:00 ... then, I wasn't lucky... 2 guys were chosen and had to answer five " very difficult" questions about DS/MK... the one with the most correct answers could win 2 tickets to fly to London on Sept 25th...
Questions were:
Who is singing in the background of Money For Nothing, Elton John, Sting, bla bla bla
What was the most successful album from Dire Straits?
What is the name of Mark's brother?
What was the name of the first hit of Dire Straits - King of Swing, Sultans of Swing, Swing of Blablabla
Which song of Mark Knopfler is named after a famous love couple?
Is it true that there is a dinosaur named after Mk, what do you think??
What did Mark study when he was young - journalism or architecture...
First guy knew exactly ONE answer, Sultans of Swing, the other one had to answer only two other questions, and I was bittlery laughing about how "difficult" it had turned out to be and what kind of fan now will travel to London and will be one of the chosen 100... :disbelief
Then I mailed TK and got an answer in no time at all:
There are indeed two gigs:
One gig on Sept. 25th, for non-UK countries, run by promoters and local labels, with obviously 100 allowed guests,
and the one for UK residents only, run by conjunction with amazon.co.uk on on Sept 26th.
Thanks to TK for answering my mail in less than one hour! Very appreciated! :D
;)

Fnac.com Spain had organized a contest with a price of two tickets to a MK concert in London, flights an hotel, and the winner has been announced already.
Many people are angry about it as you had to buy online any of the versions of Privateering, but as the 3cd version was delayed, that people were not "buyers" so they didnt entry to the contest although they did the same that the others... Obviously after the winner was announced they cancelled their purchase.
Is any of the winners in other countries announced? I hope one of us is there and could tape it!

Hello Everyone,
I'm an MK fan since I was 13 yeas old and I've been to concerts of DS, MK and NHB.
So when I heard that Belgian Radio 1 had a contest for the London show of sept 25th I entered the competition with an sms telling that the totally mixed up song they played was "Down to The Waterline".
The next day Radio 1 called me to say I was the first one with the right answer !! :)
Also that day a second player was selected with another mixed up song (Heavy Fuel) and we both played in the final round last friday.
The game was a combination of Sea Battle (referring to Privateering) and questions about MK/DS.
The questions were a peace of cake, similar to the ones in Germany (see previous post), so it all depended on a lot of luck while choosing the correct box in the Sea Battle diagram after each correct answer.
We both had our answers correct and after the eight (!) question, my opponent 'got lucky' and won the trip to the concert with a stay in a hotel....
I got the Privateering 2CD as consolation prize.
I was so close to a dream come true !! :'(
But I'll double enjoy the Antwerp concert on May 12th next year, oh yeah !!
Tickets allready hanging on the wall, so see you then !

I have to confess that it took me over 12 hours to get answer to that one : Which song of Mark Knopfler is named after a famous love couple?
Maybe because Mark has probably not played it for too long ;D

I think I would struggle the same if I was asked which song was about a famous boxer. Or Napoleon. Or Guitar George.

I phoned him yesterday, but he was busy dealing with the Warner Brothers... A hard people to deal with, that family...
-
This gis was announced as the smallest MK had ever played, so the venue must be small...
An idea came to mind... It would be so great if the gig is in the BG studio 1...
Or maybe it would be in the Music Bank Rehearsal room...
It will add a special value to the gig itself ;D
-
Next week's gig (25 th sept) is at British Gr. Studio.
-
I have just had a chat with a work colleague - another MK fan who did enter the Amazon concert.
He had an e mail from them on Saturday evening to say he had won 2 tickets to see MK on the 25th.
The concert is an hour and ten minutes (7pm until 8:10) - and is Burmondsey in London....
He had to present Photo ID etc to claim the tickets - but the kicker is he actually couldnt go - and contacted Amazon last night to say thanks but no thanks - please give the tickets to someone else....so he isnt going.....i couldnt believe it....he was pretty gutted too... :'(
-
So, Burmondsey or British Grove?
-
By the way... guess where the Music Band Rehearsals Room is...
Yes, Berdmonsey, London.

You can see the place in the link below, looks disused, so I guess they can make it into a place for a gig.

Lucky you, Martina! :)

That German radio station ndr1 radio niedersachsen (lower saxony) has a 2 hour MK /DS special at the moment. It was one of the stations that sent a listener to the London show. This station used to be one of those volksmusik and schlager ones, but has changed its musical direction slightly, so now they even play ENGLISH music!!! They play all the hits, I heard Sultans, Ticket To Heaven, Walk of Life, and Lady Writer right now. In between the dj tells us all about the history of the band, the meaning of "dire straits" and all the usual stuff! Find it quite interesting to hear it from this station, a station I never could stand... The times they are a-changin... :lol
I read on some websites now about this radio promotion. All the radio hosts were allowed to accomany the winners when they went to the London gigs. I envy them for that. Bastards... ;D (now he talks about the red fender strat and plays "Apache" from Hank Marvin, quite good idea)

... broadcast still running... Twisting By The Pool, Private Dancer, Donkeytown, If This Is Goodbye, Blues Stay Away From Me, Yakety Axe, and right now I See You In My Dreams...
quite an astonishing compilation, and not too much talk, I must say perfect for a lazy Saturday evening at home.. Was thinking of go to the shelf and have a look after my Hillbillies CD, and Donkeytown IS a nice song...

It`s the same with NDR1 - Welle Nord, same station but broadcasted in Schleswig-Holstein, the most northern part of Germany. It always was a station for "older ones" imo...but they changed and play good music, i.e. MK. ;D but no MK-special here :(

I still can't catch the meaning and purposes of those two gigs.
Promotion ? Sorry, but you don't promote anything if the contest is not open to more people from more countries.
And if eventually, the prizes happened to be kept by the journalists who were entitled to organize the contests, it's without any doubt another great PCM success ! :o
Well done Dennis and Martina ! Good to see you manage to do it ! ;)
