No leak needed anymore.... I just bought the album officially at my local record shop here in the Netherlands.
Of course the album is fantastic, i already knew by the snippets.
Just noticed a surprising thing in the booklet: "All songs written by Mark Knopfler Except Miss You Blues, lyrics Mark Knopfler, melody 'Deep Blue See': trad arr Knopfler" That's a first one I believe...
-
Nice! Which shop?
Enjoy listening!! ;D
-
I was at V&D today and the man told me he would be fired if he sold it to me.. Poor gal ;D

Media markt? :lol

No. I didn't want to hear that. A cover! That's what artists from X-Factor do. :-[

The lyrics aren't exactly inspired on that one though. Bitterly disappointed in hearing this news. :'(

It's like a red wine stain on a white tablecloth.

Jesus, relax.
What would Eric Clapton be without "Covers" ??

It's the Dylan influence, folks. Doing covers and going down the blues route :D Got To Have Something is a Rollin And Tumblin variation too.

exactly what I was about to write !

It really doesn't bother me. He has written the lyric and credited the melody as traditional. Dylan does it all the time, but credits it to himself!

Yes! Blues is all about covers.. Playing something different.. Then another person makes something different from what you record..
-
jeez, take a pill, chill..like the original anyways.. lol...

I ordered my copy from MK.com. Guess what, I should receive my cds in 2-5 weeks? ??? Is this for real ? I'm waiting anxiously to hear the entire album on a proper system.
-
Bought it at Free Record Shop. They first told me the album was delivered but that they weren't allowed to sell it yet. Then I asked if they could make an exception and apparently they could :)

Normal cd? deluxe edition? Or boxset?
-
I wonder if Dutch 3cd edition has finally 7 songs and What it is as the first one in the rehearsals cd...
-
I heard deluxe and box isnt available in netherlands tomorrow. We have to wait until saturday. Want to know if this is true. (heeft iemand de box of deluxe al zien liggen? Geldt dus ook voor morgen) universal heeft het niet vrijgegeven werd mij net verteld.
-
Went to an independent record shop who actually only sells good music (really, it exists!) and he told me the normal 2CD version is available tomorrow, the 3CD box will not be available until next week.
-
I will have the album tomorrow. :D All versions will be in at my brothers record store.
(Netherlands)
-
lucky you... i will have to wait for the delivery as it comes from Amazon Italy ( the supr delux box set was 27 euros cheaper there than from Amazon France...) It worth to wait and save little money...

Judging by his content, it doesnt worth the 53 euros that it costs in the cheaper shop...
But, its what it takes when you are a get-a-lifer...

He told me that bol.com couldn't deliver tomorrow as well... Very curious if you will get it tomorrow. Which version? The deluxe or the boxset?
-
some years ago i would have pay the extra money the have it on the D day... But.... I think i'm getting wiser or poorer lol

How sure are you about that?? My local record store told me that universal can't deliver it by tomorrow. It will be saturday or later. Also for shops as bol.com.

-
How about 100% sure!? :D
-
Once you discovered 'the leak' the urge to have it tomorrow is gone, although everyone around here will buy the record in the end. ;)
-
Ok 99% ;D You never know if the shipment gets delayed by an accident of the truck or whatever. But it's on the list. Not everything goes through the same channel. I had Knopfler DVD London a week earlier.

Sorry to ask, but where are you from? I'm from Brazil, also bought the super deluxe from Amazon Italy because of the price, but here down under I'll have to wait at least six weeks.
-
I just received an email from amazon.de that reads that they had just sent the super deluxe box to me... :D

Dutchessy read your PM!

Hey thanks for sharing this, I just reordered the deluxe with Amazon.de, a few days ago they said the release date would be 3rd of Sept, so I had canceled and ordered somewhere else. Fingers crossed for the album to come to me as early as possible.
-
Got the standard 2cd version, they indeed told me the deluxe wil be delivered to the shops later.

I can get the 2cd version tomorrow as well to borrow, when the deluxe and the boxset arrives i can trade it for those versions.
-
My super deluxe order on amazon says delivery tomorrow, whereas the normal deluxe I ordered as a present to be delivered on sept fourth? Am I truly getting my mega box tomorrow? (64,95)

Pottel I noticed the following quote underneath your messages
any Knopfler, Floyd and Dylan will do
But how about Chris Rea?
In my opinion it's almost impossible to be a Knopfler fan and not a Chris Rea fan. Do you for example have the albums "The Road To Hell" and "Auberge" from Rea? Or his wonderful 11CD Box Blue Guitars.
Chris Rea - The King Who Sold His Own

I went to this Chris Rea concert earlier this year :-)

Agree! I'm quite the fan too, his slide guitar style is absolutely godlike. You surely had a great time at the concert.
-
I thought had posted this earlier but apparently not. My wife's De Luxe box of PRIVATEERING arrived late this afternoon - as yet unopened, though.
-
Absolute wonderful time GennT at the concert. When it comes to slide guitar Knopfler ain't a match. My three favorite slide guitar players are Derek Trucks, Chris Rea and Sonny Landreth.
Here is Derek Trucks at the age of 13 playing Eric Clapton's Layla (insane):

Listening for the first time in detail now. After listening to the short clips I had the feeling that I would love this album more than MK's most recent albums (like KTGC or GL). And with listening to the full album my opinion remains the same. Good album, esspecially some of the blues-based stuff. But there are also some weak songs on it. And with some tunes I think 'where did I hear this one before?'. Bluebird remains me thinking of Rope Stretching from the NHB-gigs.
But when I compare this album with STP, then it's just a collection of nice songs. Nothing more or less. It lacks the energy and diversity of STP. STP will remain my favourite, followed by GH. Privateering comes 3rd.
Regards,
Lars B.

Don't Forget Your Hat is next.....
-
Lady Writer? Oh, come on!
-
The 11 CD set is a pretty amazing undertaking considering the scope of it, but it ends up sounding like 150 versions of Road To Hell. I'm kidding of course, but even though Chris Rea is covering all kinds of blues styles, he doesn't have a broad enough musical palette to make it varied or interesting enough to last 11 CDs.
-
Hhhmmm this is a test. I just wrote a message, but it isn't here! Let's see what is happening now! LOL
I can read now! Perhaps I was too excited about the news, that I forgot to push the right button! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/Roflbig.gif)
Well here I go again! It is wonderful to hear that some people already are able to listen to the new album. I didn't have time today and just logged in at 9.50 pm and when I read about the news I know I have to wait till tomorrow, because the shops are closed.
I hope the owner of the music shop will call me tomorrow (as he always does when I order) and if he doesn't, then I sure will take my bicycle and ride to the shop to buy the album! I need to listen now and don't want to wait any longer! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/Grinning.gif)

And how aboout Duane Allman ?
Duane is great too! Surely in my top 10! One of my favourite live albums is Allman Brothers At Fillmore East.

I did think about that, too. Pls don't get me wrong. I really do appreciate CR, but the box "The Return of the Fabulous Hofner Bluenotes" is beautifully made although a bit repetitive.

I find it somewhat disturbing to read about Chris Rea and Duane Allman every second post in this thread, sorry folks...
It is hard enough to keep up with all the posts these days, give me a break! :P

Talking here about Phil Collins is out of the question! (Just kiddin') Well, Collins isn't really my cup of tea in general musically. Though I like some of his songs and some of the Genesis stuff.
Ry Cooder is a great slide player too. Everyone should imho have seen this:

That guy isn't my cup of tea, too. It's some kind of running gag in here. But our Dustyvalentino likes him a lot, just because he is his neighbour, I reckon.....

Anyone listened to Ry Cooder's latest CD? It came out last week I think. Very political, but some awesome tunes on there.

I've listened to the leak.... and honestly I don't find a song that bring me in the sky as usual happened with the combination vocal/guitar of our hero...
I'm thinking that the best of this record is the opportunity to have a 2013 tour..... :-[
And it's clear that MK is a great songwriter.... but this record have too many songs "standard style", not "MK style".... that is always the higher.....
I'm a little disappointed.... too many songs .... and not top quality songs.... IMHO

'Look at anyone who's been in it all their life... if they've got their health, if they've been lucky enough, then that's when you begin to hear something really good. Sure, you can always hear when someone's singing, "I'm happening, I'm young, I'm strong, I've got the thing", but [when people are older] you can also hear this weird transcendence. In one note.' - Ry Cooder

Just returned from having a look at the record store... Standard version looks cheap... no liner notes at all... only the usual credits to band and staff, lyrics, some guitar picture impressions, no Mark or band foto.... hmmm. Don't know but I had exptected some information about the recordings...
Have been in two stores - are CDs no longer shrinkwrapped? They all are lying there, open, with CDs inside, but a lot of copies I must say...
No Deluxe or Super Deluxe editions though... Have to wait until Monday to check if there are maybe more info/liner notes or content in the Deluxe Edition... ::)

My superb box arrived perfectly in time, my neighbors accepted it and it was in front of my apartment to be taken in..
Am disappointed with the booklet, I mean, this is a friggin super deluxe box, is it really too much to ask to make something nice? Viny, stupid numbered artwork (1767) credit card with down.oad link (credit card my ass, some cheap cardboard card!) and a bonus cd missing the other bonusses....a DVD we already all own...
At least the music is GREAT

Btw.. I go to sleep with Privateering and wake up with it.. AND all the four bonus songs had to be on the album instead of some of the blues tracks.. That's it!

Lars & Fieneke about which version are we talking? My brother has I believe still about 4 or 5 in store, of the 2CD.
If necessary i can ask him to hold them back. If you don't succeed I could let him ship them too you. The CD sells for 14,95 if I am not mistaken.

Guitarman I am talking about the 3CD's!
Thank you for offering that is very nice, but that man knows how important it for me. He promised that he will do everything
to get that CD as soon as possible! I hope he will call tomorrow and that I will be on time at home to collect it!

Agree with that, some blues are not my cup of tea

The blues would be great if the harmonica was gone and the plinky-plonky piano playing.. It is just an overkill. I like Gator Blood, Today is Okay and Got to have something but don't forget your hat e.g is just not as good as Occupation Blues. I really don't understand why those bonus songs are not on the album, I love them.

Otherwise nobody would buy the superdeluxe box. ;)
