All in all, are you satisfied with your Super Deluxe Editon of Privateering or not?

I voted yes, because otherwise I won't be complete in my collection. But I agree that the price is too high for what you get.

LE

I have added some option so that way  your are allowed to vote.

I want to know if people who actually bought it are satisfied or not.
And if it is half full half empty glass they can explain why in comment but they have to decide which option wins. The ringing of the division bell had begun.

You can buy and realize afterwards it's really not worth the money.  :disbelief
You can also buy only to have the right to complain about TR missing.  ::)

I did buy it, well aware that it was a rip-off, but just didn't how far the rip off would go: I knew about TR missing in the so-called "full concert", I knew about the 5 so-called "live" songs CD not being included.... but I had no idea that the particular sequence I wanted to have officially (a small part of Going Home with Henk B. Marvin in Wembel'85) from the "Live in songs" documentary would be censored... :(

I think there is also a legal case to fight, this documentary being edited (shall I say: butchered ?) without notice.

Because the poll refers to what Pink Floyd's song title is about : choosing between just YES or NO.
So, there is spiritual Floyd content here ;)

This not what you expected however it does not means to be surrogate.

I did not say nor meant "roger is floyd" but rather "roger plus Dave is Floyd". I love both really, but I think none of them can claim the legacy alone.
I also said this in a form of a joke, it is not necessary to react so strongly... ;)

I still haven't got the album, either. I haven't listened to it yet, can you believe it  :o
I ordered that deluxe thing but sent it to my parents' (I'm barely at home weekdays and I don't trust my neighbours); it's been there for over a week now but I haven't had the time yet to pick it up.
I had hoped to get at least a "normal" CD version before I get the box set, my colleague said they will send him some for sweepstakes after the release but he hasn't received them yet.
And I refuse to browse youtube or download the album... I really wonder how I manage to be so patient  ;D Hope I will be rewarded.

I would add that "Roger + Dave + Rick is floyd"

And I'd say that Final cut is no more a Floyd album, in the same way as Montary and Division Bell IMHO

Agreed. Final Cut is solo album of Roger, Montary and bell is David ) Pretty obvious stuff.

By the way, I've noticed that many MK fans are Pink Floyd fans too. I'm a fan and all my MK friends are. Just amazing.

Rick has added far more substance to the Floyd sound than Rog with his random bass picking! *ducks and runs*
Joke aside, it's just my personal view of course. For me, seeing Dave and Rick live was the closest thing to Pink Floyd I have seen. Have never seen the original line-up, and Rog's The Wall was... A great spectacle, but lacked soul, IMHO.

The Live 8 day, I was VERY NERVOUS waiting for Pink Floyd to play with Roger Waters again, and I must admit I cried when it happened, was a very very emotive moment for me, as a PF fan.

I was very happy also to read Roger telling that he was grumpy and he really missed David... There is also a very nice moment in David Gilmour

Pottel, wish granted, it has become a PF thread now!  ;D
OK we all know the story behind the "Division bell" name (Douglas Adams suggested it and in return got a check for preserving animals and also a place on the stage, at some PF concert-Division bell is the phrase used at the British Parliament when it is time to vote, or something in that sense)
I love PF and we can start a thread at the general discussion. One thing only: I believe that the closest recording  to PF after the wall, was in fact "The pros and cons of hitch hiking". And in my opinion the best after the Division bell, only because I miss Dave on guitars. Eric is doing is best but it is not the same...

Ha, ha ds1984. Trying to put words in my post!  ;D
It was a fine opportunity for EC to prove that he can still play some magic (like the Cream records or Blind Faith or even better -but not appropriate- Derek and the dominoes). It didn't happen, I don't know why. Do you think that Roger told him NOT to sound like David? Jeff Beck on Amused to death didn't even try to imitate David and we got fantastic results (In my opinion, not that similar to PF) . After all "Pros and cons..." was suggested at the same time with the Wall, so it had the PF feel right from the start.
Do you know something about Eric's involvement?

Yes.

According to Nicholas Schaffner, in his book "Saucerful of secrets - The Pink Floyd Odyssey", all but the title track were already recorded when Eric was asked to play and there was no room left to express himself.

When you listen the album, there are only two tracks where you can really hear Eric's work : the title track, the only one actualy recorded at the time he was in the studio with Roger, and the dobro part added at the end of "S

Thank you for the info!  :D
You probably think very highly of Clapton, I also like his work until the late 70ies, but the 80ies was a time when his albums were not that good. And his playing had started being monotonous and rather uninspired. I have all his albums until MTV unplugged (I only bought 3 or 4 after that) and I really have to force myself to listen to some of the albums of the 80ies. Maybe he could contribute more if given the chance. But since Cream and Blind Faith  he was playing a completely different idiom, a more blues approach. And I guess Roger had Gilmour's guitar in mind when he originally wrote the tunes. I don't know, all options open!  ;)
By the way I think I have read some of the info at Clapton's autobiography.

The quality of the (80's) albums have nothing to do with what Eric can deliver on stage. Put your hands on the Nuthin But The Blues unreleased concert documentary from '94.

From all the guitarists that went through the John Mayall's bluesbreakers, I liked Peter Green the most. Clapton comes second. But the truly classic album was beano.

My nitpicker side is speakeing : JON was recorded in december 1979 and released in 1980.

Despite being in his heavy alcoohol period, despite not with the best backing band, it does feature a rendition of "Double Trouble" that remains unsurpassed to date.

1981 is the tour that saw Eric collapse and be rushed to St.Paul's United Hospital, cancelling most of the Another Ticket U.S.A. Tour.
After this it featured his first attempt to alcoohol redemption.

i still get goosebumps and tears in my eyes i have to admit when i see dave and roger bumping into each other at Bray studios where both rehearsed for there 2006 tours, it is on the extra'S of either remember that night or gdansk dvd's
i got into the floyd through a delicate sound of thunder (as rogerless as it gets) so i am more into the dry floyd (no waters...) then most hardcore fans, and i can say without having to duck and run that i cannot listen to anything up to meddle (love that one) i mean, saucerful of secrets anyone?
and animals is my favourite "real floyd" album.
also, i personally do not care that this is a mixture of floyd and knopfler, happen to love both.

I personally love SoS (Not Sultans of Swing here, but Saucerful of Secrets :) ). it is a very special album... the first one by the "classic" line-up after Syd lost it. And the result is very promising:
- The title track is the very first progressive piece by Floyd. The whole "song" is pretty tough to hear (my wife screamed at me that I was listening to psychotic noise) but the last piece, "Celestial voices", is very touching... Look at the Pompeii version, they are so young and so fresh singing this... :)
- Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun is the very first success by Roger... it is a great song IHMO, both Pompeii and In the Flesh versions are beautiful, each in its own way...

Of course the record is not on par with "Meddle" which is a real masterpiece, but still, the basics of classic Flyod started to shown and shine in SOS....

EC is god, but more in the 70ies than in the 80ies, (I like journeyman and live'85 very much though), double trouble from JON is a gem, Meddle and SOS (both  ;)) are masterpieces (but saucerful is not really the 1st with classic line up, it features Syd on it  ;)), animals is also my favorite floyd Animals (WYWH comes very near), and about Mayall bluesbreakers, I would add Mick Taylor wihc in term of melody is far better than EC , while EC is more blues-improvistaion style IMHO, and thanks DS1984 for  EC/Scorcese video (BTW the Dylan's one is also a awesome), thanks Pottel for Echoes, but the best part is ALL the song  :)

I Also really like the ec and friends boot from the mid eighties, I believe from montreu. With otis rush and stuff, that IMHO is the best double trouble....

My first PF album was Saucerful of Secrets, and I enjoyed listening to them separate influences and unique compositions by Rick Wright and Roger. Even the last Syd song is great. And I'm wondering who can be writing this song?
Pompeii was the first video I saw by PF and it was a revelation. But even then I could not stand the first three parts of SoS.

But See-saw and Remember a day must be the most dreamy songs in PF catalog. Plus the Summer of 68 from the very experimental, but really nice,  Atom heart mother.
I have been thinking why I believe that Animals is my favourite PF album, when it is the one that I have played less than the other 3 mega sellers of the 70ies, until I realized that the answer lies in the question.

Pink Floyd? Who are they?

I think this drifting a bit off topic ... so back to the super deluxe set. I bought it, yes, and I think it's well wort it. For 80 Swiss Francs, I got almost four albums (Privateering 1 and 2, the three bonus tracks and a fantastically recorded concert). Listening to Privateering on vinyl I strongly recommend, it sound fabulous. And the art work is just gorgeous this time - I can't stop looking at the rusty album sleeves ...
