I don't know about anyone else over here stateside, but I am beginning to feel like an unwanted orphan. I can't get a copy of Privateering to save my soul. Amazon has had my order for a long time and now reports to me that they don't know when they can deliver it. I went to someone on the Amazon site who advertised that they had it in their store and ordered it from them, only to get an email telling me of a "temporary bottleneck" in regard to delivery of the CD. I went to ITunes. Surely they must have it - it is available in ITunes in Canada which isn't that far away! No luck there either. Not only that, but when I tried to buy it through the Canadian site, it rejected me and told me to use ITunes in the U.S. I am seeing Mark on 11/7 in St. Paul. Will I not know any of the new songs by that time? Will I just be humming along like an old fridge? I don't work in marketing but even I know this is no way to run a business! :-[

Hey Rkd,
At least a week before the cd was to be released here in US I let my local cd store know I wanted it. (I wanted it from this local store). Naturally, he was ordering copies anyway, not for just me. My name was on one copy and he told me they were going fast and he wasn't sure he could get any in for awhile...that he'd been trying.
I don't know what the heck is going on...of course, I paid import price, which I wasn't so happy about but I am glad I never ordered from MK.com where it is less expensive. So...are they trying to get the domestic version so folks don't have to pay the import price?
Guy said a statement would be up about it soon. Sorry...I'd be feeling pretty dejected too if I were you.
-
Thanks for the sympathy jennja. Very kind of you. ;) I'd like to think that they were just caught off-guard and the demand is far exceeding sales expectations.
-
i rather think it is a contractual issue, end of contract discussions or something..
-
A lot of people here in Europe are still awaiting their super deluxe boxes from MK.com and expect them at the end of the month!
-
Guy has an "official statement" on his page:
Statement regarding Privateering in the US
Privateering will not be released in the US. There is a contractual dispute between Mark and Warner Brothers which has resulted in the current situation. The record has been released in all other territories in the world as usual by Universal Music. Privateering will not be available to US fans via markknopfler.com. We are disappointed that Mark's record won't be released in the US and if the situation changes an updated statement will be issued.
Very many thanks for your continued support.
LE
-
Oh dear, the situation is worse than I thought! :-\
-
I'm actually stunned. These issues sometimes happen? And they are not resolved by release time?
Privateering, huh? If I were MK and all I would be very very disappointed, indeed.
I'll check on the off chance there are still copies locally. If so, I'll post or pm later.
-
So what happened to "MarkKnopfler.com will be the ONLY source to buy all four formats in the United States"?
I was fortunate to have pre-ordered from Amazon.ca and got mine on the 10th. It appears that they are now out of stock also.
-
So, MK is touring the US next month but his record is not on sale there...
A great marketing strategy, I guess they didnt see coming the issue with Warner Brothers on time...
Looks like mk.com planned to sell directly to the US but I bet that Warner Bros dont let them do that.
-
No...there are none locally at two stores...lots of requests they say. http://www.amarkintime.org/forum/Smileys/classic/icon_disbelief.gif
-
Thanks for checking jennja.Very kind of you. Only one question comes to mind: where's Ed and can we place an emergency call to him? :)

Hey, Jennaja, no need to paste and copy the smileys, I tried it that way, you obviously do. It is enough just clicking one time on them and they will appear in your text in no time!!! ;)

So, can anyone elaborate on this "contractual dispute?" What does it all mean in as far as Marks future under WB in the US? I find this an astonishing piece of unprofessional management by PCM yet again - this should not happen. The distribution of this album has been nothing short of farcical. :disbelief

Finally there is another lady that likes emoticons as much as I do! So I am looking forward to see yours! (http://audiocandy.com/images/smilies/clap.gif)
Well in fact I should use sad emoticons, because it really is sad that people aren't able yet to buy Mark's album in the USA!
It is rediculous! There are so many fans in the USA who love his music and now they have to wait till the problem is solved!
I hope there soon will be a solution and you all can enjoy the music as well! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/band.gif)

True... It is also removed from Guy's page. It was there earlier this evening...

What's up with this?!
One of the premier artists of our time releases a double album and get it distributed in the US? Someone should tip the newspapers about this.
-
This is beginning to look like a chess match to me...Mark and PCM just looked across the table and told the people at Warner Bros...."You're move!"

And while all of that is playing out the US fans are getting screwed. :(

I'm sure neither side wants to drag this out...wouldn't be surprised if this is resolved quickly.

I pre ordered my copy from Mk.com. I was notified that delivery time could be between 2-5 weeks. I was leery that the copy would arrive in time before the tour in Oct. To my delight, the cds came a few days after the official release. I knew of another fan who also got his copy, but the other fan didn't. So, I don't know what happened why some people got their copies and some don't. I'd be greatly frustrated if I didn't get the copy by now. I've been enjoying the music tremendously every single day.
-
You know that photo of MK on the last page of the KTGC liner notes? Mark's sitting in the chair...with the upper hand raised...looking for all the world...intimidating! I can imagine him at the table with WB. Kim Wilson starts playing his harp....waaaaa waaaaa waaaaa in all the executive's ears.......
Yes, I imagine this will be settled soon. Perhaps that's why the statement is down from Guy's and MK's sites.
-
The dispute is concerning the use of the word "potatos" in Today is Okay.
This 'potato' reference is clearly meant to be served with faggots - http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faggot_(food)
Which is all very offensive to the north American market.
If anyone would like me to bring over the controversial Privateering CD when I go to America, I'll try my best to sneak them through customs...
Seriously though, mark famously stated once in an interview that his record conpany NEVER interfered... this is the price of much lower success in his solo years. George Harrison once suffered a similar indignity.
My guess is WB want Mark to whittle the album down to a single CD, not a double.
-
It looks like the contract was expiered in 2010 (Alchemy reissue is not released in US yet) and sides did not come to agree during latest 2 years. But I'm sure that WB bosses can see the high charts position in Europe and the simple fact that "official statement" was removed from GF, MK websites says us that sides are near a final decision and Privateering will be released in (or for) US soon.
-
I just read this article about James Taylor suing Warner...look like sneaky devils to me.
http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/legal-and-management/james-taylor-suing-warner-bros-records-for-1007949492.story
-
Do you think that what happens between MK and WB is the same?
If Ustas is right and their contract ended in 2010, I dont get why sign with them again, I never understood why MK released his cds with WB at the US when he does with Universal at the rest of the world... Maybe in 1978 was better to sign with them at the US, but now that MK is not a young promising star anymore...
-
The next 2 questions - why it is not released by Univarsal local divison? Why standard version or US version (as I understand - produced by UM specially for US market) is not imported to US yet?
-

I guess MK is somewhat or fully still under contract with them. If so, UM cannot organise legal US distribution.

A somewhat lengthy article, thought some of you might like to read. I haven't read the whole thing yet, but this stands out: "the average artist sees 23.40 for every $1000 of music sold.

If you follow this link through to the source for that info, you get to another interesting article: http://www.theroot.com/views/how-much-do-you-musicians-really-make (http://www.theroot.com/views/how-much-do-you-musicians-really-make)
Using the info from that article (average royalty of 13%), if an album sells say 200,000 copies (I have no idea how many albums Mark sells in the US nowadays), the artist might come out with $50 - 60,000 after all expenses.
-
I thought somebody gave a US chart position for the album. How is this possible if it hasn't been released?
PS Touring with no album = Spinal Tap...
-
No album- no tour. Thats why MK tours with Bob this year in the US. Shame on Warners for passing on such a beautiful album (I think they simply didn,t want to release a double album, but are now mad at MK for selling it from his own website). Well, at least we get something. Our poor friends in South Amerca & Ausies have to enjoy bootlegs for last 7 years.
-
I can't see why they wouldn't release a double album. I didn't pay more for that double album than I usually pay for normal ones. And I got the double amount of songs. What can be wrong with that?
-
I believe when MK tried to release LOG as a double album, Ed said that's commercial suicide. I think (and i have no contact with WB so this is all a speculation) that they considered manufacturing of a double album too expensive & were afraid it wont sell well enough. In any case USA fans got screwd.
-
Mark considered making STP a double also, and I believe Ed talked him out of it then, too.
-
Good for Mark to come out with a double cd!
I balked at spending 24.99 for Privateering, the import...but I wanted to buy from this local guy because he's been in the business for a long, long time...does it for the love...who knows how long he'll be in business.
Still, I'd send MK the money directly if I could, at a higher cost than what I'm used to...like Guy's music.. And any of the other artists I buy currently from major labels. The merger went through--and I just don't want to sift through the pros and cons--the fact that 1/2 of the union artists/musicians are for--or against it. I feel I want to be done with the major labels.
Actually, while Iove the physical cds..maybe I'd be more happy with just downloading for my iPod. I don't know. So I'll treat with care this Privateering cd...
Geez...the irony...
-
An album that makes the top 10 all over Europe and is a number 1 album in several countries can hardly be a bad deal for Warner, can it? I don't get it, really. ???
-
I don't want to totally veer off course here but to mention a few items in the news.
During 2008 election it was Biden and Obama in Rolling Stone, title: Brother's in Arms
Many articles titled....Dire Straights (yes, straights but I really think they want you to think Dire Straits as well)
Today..."Sultan of Swing" regarding the 'swing states USA' and Obama as the Sultan...
I'd really like to be in some European country where MK is no. 1...you people are doing something right.
-

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but "Nooooo!!!", I don't think I'll ever have that feeling of engagement with the music without being able to hold a physical copy, with artwork, in my hands. I guess I'm just a slow-adopter, cos I feel the same way about downloads versus CDs, now, as I remember feeling about vinyl over CDs when they first came out :disbelief but I'm sure I'll get over it . . . eventually ;)

Okay, US fan here, and I just need to vent a bit.
I pre-ordered the deluxe Privateering the first morning it was available.
Then they said they were having supplier troubles, and delivery of Privateering would be delayed until further notice.
Then I was shocked when a month later, they said the US couldn't buy Privateering.
But I was assured in two emails form MK.com that I would get my pre-ordered deluxe pack by the end of September, or earlier.
It's the end of September, and I still don't have it.
I've been an MK nut for 34 years, but this is getting really frustrating.
It started last year when North Americans couldn't buy the Simfy Euro concerts, but everyone else could. Then they said there'd be no North American 2013 tour -- all we get is half a concert this year on the BD tour. Then they said the US can't buy Privateering. Then they said my pre-ordered copy would be honored, but I still don't have it, and they've had my money for two months.
I just have to hope they honor my tickets for the MK/BD concert next month.

To say nothing about being excluded from the secret show contests, though I do kinda understand that one. Maybe MK likes our blues but, like a lot of the rest of the world, doesn't like us! :'(
And now I have to worry about whether there will really be concert tickets waiting for me on concert day or not?

The exact same thing happened to me, knopfling, except mine arrived a couple days ago, so there is hope. I'm most upset about being excluded from the tour next year. I'm thinking about getting a life and moving on..... Being a fan is too painful :-\
-
Joan, they said they'd send them out in the order received, and I ordered as early as I could, so I don't understand the holdup on mine. Especially when they said everyone should get them before the end of the month.
Anyway, it just adds to a lot of frustration over the doings of the past year.
Hop, I know it's based in Toronto. They had trouble getting the deluxe package from the supplier but sent me an email weeks ago saying they had them and were starting to send them out in order. It really shouldn't take more than a week to get here from Toronto.
Jbaent, if I understand the situation correctly, I don't think anybody in the US can order them anymore because they're not selling to the US because of the Warner Bros. dispute, so I don't think Amazon could help.
-
Knopfling, I hope it will show up in your mailbox Monday. I'd be quite mad by now. >:( Now, all this talks about frustrations made me really worried about picking up my tickets for the concert in 3 weeks. I have this fear that my tix is not there. So, I'm gonna bring my receipt, ID and all.
My biggest disappointment /anger is not seeing the tour in NA for 2013. >:( I still couldn't bring myself to accept that we won't see MK in the US. How could they do this to us? ??? Joan, you're right , it's sooooo painful. :disbelief

Hey all, I am purchasing a digital copy of Privateering because that seems to be the only way I can obtain it on the other side of the pond. However, MK site doesn't provide a digital copy of the liner notes, etc., only the cover! :'( Does anyone have a scan of it that they've be willing to share with a kindred knopflerite? In the past I received get a free copy when purchasing 2+ tickets but not this time, strangely enough... ???
-
i sent a scan to dikke leo and jbaent..
-
Great, is it in this thread? Just trying to determine the best way to locate it in the mass of threads. Search function is not getting me too far...
-
Pottel, thanks. Would love to hear your recordings.
Joan, no way I would leave MK. Just had to vent a bit.
Sweet, we went through that stuff last tour, and it all worked out okay, so I'm hoping all is all right this time.

I'll forever be a fan no matter how painful it is ! That's what "true love for MK will never fade" haha.

So October started and I still haven't received but the simple edition, made in EU, sent to Canada and then recent back to me, in EU. And that not earlier than the 15th of September. I guess it had to do with the cheaper way to get things in and out of Canada. I also fear that a large pack containing the SDB (super deluxe box) might find some problems with customs. Even though it was made in EU.
It sort of reminds me the original dispute with the Beatles albums been totally reconstructed for the US audience, due to different calculation of "rights". Maybe that is the reason. Of course it would have created a totally different version, but companies and artists react differently nowadays. In the 80ies Eric Clapton was sent back TWICE to find new material for his albums!!! (In retrospect they were right, but hundreds of artists issued garbage records at the same time.No respect at all)
The fact that MK is no.1 in many European countries doesn't mean a thing. Most of the fans rush to buy it early on, but it is the continuing sales in depth of time that actually make the difference. Sailing to Philadelphia sold about a million copies, and that would be impressive for a new act, but rather small for MK. And all these different editions, mean that many homes have 3-4 copies of the album (I know I have). So expensive to promote and produce so many editions, and relatively small sales. I was reading a Lindsey Buckingham interview (I think it was him) and the reporter asked him about his solo albums and why they didn't sell. The answer was shocking. He said that the company prefers to pay 100$ for an investment that will pay back 1000 times, than 1000$ for one that will pay back 100 times. And this normally means that they completely don't back up the album they thing it is going to sell relatively small anyway, and leave it high and dry. It sounded like the stock market of music and it was terrifying.
My flatbed scanner broke down, but I can still take digital photos of the booklet. PM me.
-
Sailing to Philadelphia sold about a million copies, and that would be impressive for a new act, but rather small for MK.
According to Wikipedia:
"By 2002, the album had sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide."
I remember reading somewhere that it's sales had exceeded 4.5 million copies.
-
Thanks Val for the info! :D I really had no idea that went that far. 4.5 is impressive. 8) Maybe that is what gave WB the "right" to dictate new rules and contracts. They seem to think that they were right back then, forcing for a single disc and different track listing.
But my point still stands because I was referring to the initial sales, that make the album jump in the no.1 spot. Golden heart sold (if I am correct) 2 million copies, but is not selling fast anymore, and it was no.2 and 3 in many European countries at the time of release. The DS albums still have healthy sales, the first one over 11 millions and BiA more than 15 and counting with the new editions.

I have trawled through my archives and found this from MKNews in 1998 - so it is not up-to-date, of course:

Communique 7,331,619
Making Movies 7,627,688
LOG 8,460,104
Alchemy 4,977,645
BIA 25,243,216
OES 8,552,350
MFN 13,232,223
On The Night 2,820,799

Wag he Dog 139,355
The Very Best of DS 2000,000
As at December 1998
I believe the sales of BIA are now in excess of 35,000,000 worldwide
-
I haven't done my homework, Val. ;D BiA 25 millions by 1998! And by far their weakest record! I will look it up, because if it has reached 35, it is up there with the Eagles greatest hits and very close to Thriller. My source was "The 100 best - selling albums of the 80ies" Amber-Igloo editions from 2004, and it states 12,900,000 >:( and I assumed that 2 millions more are moderately fair to add. :P Thriller is no.1 with 29,300,000 and back to black 2nd with 19,100,000.
-
I think this situation exposes the stupidity of the music industry. There are some countries that haven't seen a MK tour in years, even though there is a large number of MK fans that would probably pay for tickets to see him live. (Australia...India...Argentina..etc..) I don't know why MK doesn't tour in these countries, but I suppose at least one reason is that MK's management doesn't believe that a true market for MK tickets exists there or perhaps they feel the logistics of sending all of the gear there for a few shows is too expensive. Meanwhile, in the US, there has been a market for MK solo shows for many years now. The large majority of his solo shows either sell out or come close to selling out. However, due to the fact that MK and the record label can't come to an agreement over whatever it is they're disagreeing over, they're now giving up the revenue they would have earned had they released the album here and toured here in 2013! This is coming from an industry that claims to exist to make sure that the artist gets paid their fair share. Well, good job Warner Brothers! Keep up the good work. :lol
-
I have this fear that my tix is not there. So, I'm gonna bring my receipt, ID and all.
I see seat assignments are arriving to folks for the 2013 tour. Does anyone besides me not have any seat assignments for the tour that is beginning in a few days in the U.S.? Does this seem odd to anyone else?
-

According to RIAA, the USA official certification bureau, BiA sold 9x multiplatinum, which means a sale in excess of 9million copies.
In the UK, the Official Charts Company verified sales of 13x platinum, making BiA the 7th most successfull album in british charts, with 3.900.000 units.
So your account is right, but considering the sales on just two countries... BiA was a huge blockbuster all over the world, so I think these 25 million copies are surpassed. Wikipedia, citing the BBC, estimates the sales of BiA in over 30 million.
Well, but probably Eagles greatest and Thriller have done well on the market, too. According to the same wikipage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums), Thriller may have sold up to 110 million copies! The source is not completely reliable, but for me is a good start.
-
And a little more official info:
BiA in the 4th best-selling album in Australia. 1,2 million copis.
As in April, 1986, have surpassed 1 million copies in Canada. Sixteen years after, how much would it be?
In France, other million units.
-
Thanks for the info nababo. My head is about to explode with all these assumptions. Thriller 110 million records! It is roughly what DS and MK sold in all their career!
But it has not aged as good as the DS records I might add.
I thought BiA was the best selling album in UK with Dark side second, with sales more than the measly 3.9. Phil Collins (excuse me Dusty) said something about it in Mont Serrat concert when he was introducing MK. Anyway thanks for the link as well, very informative, but confusing at the same time. I don't get how they base their total estimate of 35 millions on a BBC comment in 2003, while all the certified (but one) sales are either from 2011 or 2012. I know they have been using Thriller's first position as an advertisement, and they might be blowing up the sales to keep it strong. But BiA has no need of that, it is so much better and stands the test of time. Oh it really doesn't matter, only a glimpse to see how the system works.
-
the 110 mil is plain wrong.
too bad universal (NL) will not release the updated figures, as in, at all...biiiiiiiggg secret.
and guy directed me to them as "it is a record label thing"
screw those labels, we should really go underground, this ultimatively stupid stance really pisses me off.
let them die damnit.
-
I see the statement is back on mk.com and mknews.
-
Thanks for the info nababo. My head is about to explode with all these assumptions. Thriller 110 million records! It is roughly what DS and MK sold in all their career!
But it has not aged as good as the DS records I might add.

Yeah, you have a very good point here. Some numbers look like the wiki editors are trying to trace the estimate sales of an album based on its past history in the market.
Other issue is that many countries do not have an official certification entity, making it impossible to rely on the numbes.

I haven t received my Privateering album (only the double cd) yet, although I have pre-ordered it the first day it was available.
I m from Europe (Romania).
A week ago I wrote to MK.com an asked about it, and they told me that it is possible to take a little longer to receive the album because it s coming from Canada.
I shouldn t lose hope yet, right ;)?
-
Mine arrived from Canada some days ago
-
mine still hasn't.
am upset.
-
I have this fear that my tix is not there. So, I'm gonna bring my receipt, ID and all.
I see seat assignments are arriving to folks for the 2013 tour. Does anyone besides me not have any seat assignments for the tour that is beginning in a few days in the U.S.? Does this seem odd to anyone else?
I just received my seat assignment today for the Phila. concert in November.
-
Thanks for the response Joan. Hmmm, I am seeing MK in St. Paul at the beginning of November which is before the Philly concert so while I am happy you got your seats, I wonder why I did not get mine. I'll keep hoping that they come soon. I guess I expected the North American tour seats to be issued before the 2013 tour ones, but I guess I don't think like MK.com does. With all of the obstacles we've had here in the U.S., it makes me more nervous about the entire situation.

Hang in there. On the day of the presale, I got a confirmation email that said seat assignments would be sent in 4-6 weeks. They came in 3 weeks. I wouldn't even try to figure out the rationale behind MK.com any more. ???
-
My 2 shows in San Francisco are on Oct 17, and 18. My tickets are floor standing general admission. My question is, how early should I queue up at the venue ? I know each city is different, but in general, do fans queue up early in the day ? And there is a question of picking up the ticket as well.
A friend of mine said, it's SF, there are all kinds of crazy people here. I'd better be there in the morning??? I guess I'll know what to do the next night.
My show in Berkeley is an assigned seat on Oct 19th. I haven't received any seat assignment yet. Hopefully my seat will be close enough to the stage I can see MK facial expressions in every song. :D

I have trawled through my archives and found this from MKNews in 1998 - so it is not up-to-date, of course:

The Very Best of DS 2000,000
As at December 1998
I believe the sales of BIA are now in excess of 35,000,000 worldwide
superval,
Thanks for all the numbers. Now, the best of DS is that 2 millions or 200,000 ? Are there numbers for the rest of MK solos ?

My apologies to MK.com for all of the unkind thoughts I was having about them while conjecturing that they had forgotten about my seat assignments. Found them in my spam filter. Who knows why? So, if you haven't gotten your seats, try checking your filter. Oh, and by the way, the tickets are fabulous. Row 1 in the best section of the arena in St Paul. :D Also got tickets to RAH that aren't so good, but didn't get those right away so no one to blame but myself.
-
No SDE today either. And it comes from Canada after all. It is crazy, but that explains the delay.
-
Sweetsurrender - Sorry, missed a comma! ;D
The Very Best of DS - 2,000,000
-
But MFN sells more because is so much better, and with more sales than any other best of, even without the 3 last official albums. And was issued while DS were on the top of the world. ;D

This frustration is in regards to email confirmation for seat assignments and tickets pick up. A few days ago, I received an email from MK.com about my seat assignments and ticket pick up procedures. I got 2 confirmations for 2 shows. For whatever reasons, I didn't get confirmation for another show which ironically is the show in the same venue in San Francisco the next night. I got concerned, so I emailed MK.com. Instead I got an email with the confirmation that I've already got. So, i had to send Mk.com another email, clearly stated the issue of not getting the right confirmation for the second show. I didn't get any reply at all. Now, I'm getting extremely anxious about the whole thing. I again today sent them emails plus I found the phone # to call. It was after hours I guess so, i left a voice message with them. Hopefully, somebody will contact me and explain what's going on. I know that one other fan in the forum is having the same problem. She got confirmation for just one show eventhough she bought tickets for 2 shows in the venue. This situation is driving me insane. I'm losing sleep over this.
My question is , does anybody else who is going to multiple shows not getting all the confirmations yet?
-
No, but I got two of my three shows confirmed with uncomplete, broken e-mails... as the third one was displayed correctly, and as in recent years everything worked out fine with mk.com mails, I don't think it has had something to do with my setup...
BUT I mailed them and got very friendly and helpful replies within minutes... there is a special e-mail-address for cases like these, it's
tickets@MarkKnopfler.com
Maybe you should try that one (again)?
I understand your concern however, not a very good situation!

I didn't realize until I read this thread that the album wasn't available here. Talk about ridiculous!! I hoped to buy it at the shop the same day I bought Dylan's Tempest but thought maybe the store I was in was just lame and hadn't ordered Privateering.
Listened on youtube but I want to listen to it all in the car :(
-
Sweetsurrender, I understand your confusion and that you and your friend are getting nervous! :think
I am sure the people of MK.com do their best and will be very busy, but it is sad for the people living in the USA,
that they get disappointed again and again! First MK won't be touring next year, second they have problems with receiving their album
and now it seems there are problems with confirmation of their seats! :disbelief
It is terrible and I can understand that many of you get frustrated and nervous! .......I would feel the same!
I can't do anything to help you all, only keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that in the end things will be alright for all of you! :-*
Hey I see there are new emoticons!!! :clap

Fieneke,
Thanks for your kind thoughts and words. My frustration is far from over and as matter of fact it has built up to fury. I still haven't got a confirmation for my third show. I'm trying to be very patient with them . I've sent them numerous emails plus phone call. First, nobody ever call back. Each time, I sent them email it was in plain English inquiry about the third show that I haven't yet got the email confirmation, each time, they sent me the same email with confirmation that I've already got. Back and forth like this. I'm at a loss what to do. I'm getting really nervous as my show is coming up in 11 days ! I'm afraid when I show up at the venue, there's no ticket for me to pick up. (what do I do then?) I need HELP !!! anyone with ideas what to do. Knopfling is in the same situation. I hope at the end it will all be fine. (my fingers crossed )

Hi Sweetsurrender,
Send an e-mail to markknopfler.com, attention it to Aaron. To me he really answered all questions and pretty quick to.
Don't write a large mail, just:
Hello Aaron,
I have received the confirmation below. But still no confirmation with seats and when and where to pick up my tickets.
Can you please help me, concert is in 11 days!
Thanks, ...
-
Ingridswing,
Thanks. I've been corresponding with Lisa at help@markknopfler.com and Eric at tickets@markknopfler.com. Now, where should I write to Arron?
-
To help@markknopfler.com
-
Useful information for all AMITers, Ingrid! Thanks. Maybe we should have them at a special help thread or visible and easy to be searched and found somewhere.
-
Yippeeeeeee!
I finally got an email from Eric at MK.com giving me my seat assignments!
Whew. I was starting to worry.

Me Too !!! :) All ended well today. Got my 3 rd show confirmed. Apparently a problem with their email system. I'm soo relieved and happy now.
Can't wait !
-
I've sent a couple of emails over the past 10 days and no answer.
I don't know if they have technical problems or just don't want to answer.
I don't like and I'm getting very upset. :(
-
They don't have technical problems, but they are dealing with different things:
- change of venue in US, so all seats must be changed (priority job)
- giving out seats for the european tour
- answering 100's of questions about the US and European tour
- answering 100's of questions about the delay of the CD's and boxes
-
I agree to give them a break but I still think a few questions could have been easily answered a couple of weeks ago.
At least give partial information or warnings.
I won't forget and sooner or later there will be no mercy.

As soon as I get my ordered items (box and deluxe) I am going to write them an email, complaining about the whole situation. Unfortunately, no concerts for me, so nothing to complain about, but as I have said before, anyone willing and able to help me make the email more "official" than another frustrated fan's, is welcome to help.
-
Tunnel, what's your frustration involving with? CD, tickets, etc ? The week when I was waiting for their response to my inquiries had robbed me of many good night's sleep. I wrote to Lisa, and Eric everyday, telling how much I needed them to straigthening things out for me. No responses at all. Until a few days ago, Eric wrote back and apologized for the confusion stating that it was their email system. I'm glad it all ended well. I was a wreck !
I can relate to your frustration. I hope just like me and knopfling, it will end well for you too.

It's a bit of everything. I was not very happy with the CD release. Hard to find in stores and indeed a commercial trap (TR missing on the madrid show makes the box not worth it). My mistake but without any doubt it's a con trick. I agree it's peanuts compared to what happened in the US.
More serious concerns are poor seating and no show in Switzerland. I can not finalize my schedule, I can not book, I can not save my summer holiday dates. I must do things differently. Really makes me mad.
I missed a few gigs in 2010 because of extremely late anouncement for the shows in my area and I know it's gonna happen again. :disbelief
-
That would mean you really do expect some more dates to be announced? I would think it is all done by now?

LE
Yes I do.
Guy said the tour dates are complete. He didn't say they were all revealed. ;D
I keep on trusting the 72 dates/25 countries rumor. 7 summer festival dates missing.
Am I crazy enough to bet on Lyon again the day before of after Nimes ?
Am I crazy enough to bet on Patrimonio Festival on July 18 ?
Tough questions.
If your bet is correct, bingo. If not you lose everything : money, vacations, shows. :-[
-
I went downtown today, after yesterday's visit. (It was not allowed to gather in groups more than three! a law voted in 1971 during the junta)
Anyway, went to check if they have the new album and at last they had 5 copies, of the regular edition. No sign of the deluxe. And then when a man asked for it, the real gentle girl behind the counter said, "The new Mark Knopfler, what?" It is like the fictional incident I was describing a few weeks before. There's something going on with the distribution and MK.com isn't making it better for any of Knopfler fans either.

I was hoping Lyon too, (as I live here, and I can't go seing Mark elsewhere), but if you look at each tour since 2000 :
- in 2001 he went in Lyon (I was there)
- in 2003, Lyon wasn't scheduled, but the tour was cancelled (so I didn't miss anything :lol)
- in 2005 he went in Lyon (I was there)
- in 2008, he didn't go to Lyon (my biggest disappointment, because this tour seemed to be very cool, due to setlists/recordings >:( :()
- in 2010, he went in Lyon (I was there)
- so, in 2013 : I bet he won't go to Lyon, as the tour promoters try to alternate towns each tour (it's fair for other towns, but not for me :()
the only 2 consecutive tours with Lyon were 96 and 2001
I didn't list the "extra tours" (roadrunning, BD), because the haven't got the same dates amount, so there was only Paris for these tours
I'm afraid that there will be no more date, at least in France, but I would be the happiest man in the world if I'm wrong !
-
I have been reading this topic for a while and wow, I feel for the MK fans in the US.
No full MK tour in 2013, no new album, it's terrible. I realize I have no way to help, but I if I could I surely would......
I feel for those in Europe as well, who are having trouble finding the new album and/or can't seem to get their concert tickets confirmed.
I really hope things will end up alright in the end........
Seems like like as a dutch fan I can call myself lucky, it was easy to order the new album online.
Plus I managed to get my ticket for the Amsterdam show in may 2013 (OK I did not take part in the presale, but a row 21 seat doesn't seem that bad.).
Maaike
-
The delivery of the deluxe from mk.com took a while. But I had the normal CD in hand on releaseday and the deluxe a little more than a week later. So I could listen anyway.
Booked seats at mk.com, all are confirmed and seats are known except Amsterdam.
But I'm sure it will be there in some weeks and it's only for may.
Maybe 21st row isn't too bad for you, but I don't want to think about that row. My worst row 2013 is row 7 in Cologne (I didn't have a code) and I already think that's bad. Maybe I'm spoiled :-[
