Title: I Paper - MK article: Monday 17th September 2012
Post by: Knopflerfan on September 17, 2012, 08:29:59 AM
Imagine my delight when I opened page 37 of todays 'I' paper to discover a 'quarter' page article about the one and only MK! ::)
It basically says about Mark's new album, the tour with Mr Bob and his own tour next year along with some family life quotes.
I will try and copy a link or even copy it somehow for all to read.

Revised:Here is the link:

He's getting quite a bit of media exposure at the mo, don't you think? Of course there's the new album, but many of the articles are not strictly album focused either. That's my impression anyways.

It's good though. More artists such as Mark should get more coverage, not the numbskull "pop stars".

In France, there's been no article at all.
The album gets sold with absolutely no promotion !

Mark has chosen to stay away from medias and generally do little promotion.
He does not want the celibrity he is only interested by strict musical success, he's a low profile now.

Good comments here guys, lets draw our own conclusions on the promomotional situation.

Mark as we all know is very 'humble' about his status as a 'Legendary guitarist' and also as a 'songwriter' and therefore I think he chooses where and when any articles are published. The I paper for those that don't know is a highly rated paper as opposed to some others in the UK so I think that was/is a bearing on this particular  article...
After all, we all know Mark as an artist does'nt require any plugging as many, many people know of and about him - this website is testament to that!!

Any further thoughts?

He does not "chooses where and when any articles are published", newspaper are free to publish article on him anywhne they want to but as long as he reamins off focus by givinh no interview or make almost no public (advertised) appearance there is nothing to say about him.

Think you will find IF you read the FULL article that Mark is indeed interviewed!!!

Give away is at the start:

'The former Dire Straits frontman tells Paul Sexton about tours, hit albums, and not slowing down'

TWM also posted this in the MK & BD 2012 tour as well.
Very nice article, I hope that when MK says he plays his set and then some songs with BD he means that the 2011 routine extends to the new tour...

Bad luck to many of us that that routine started late  >:(

Yes, Knopflerfan, thanks for posting.

Seems MK and Bob are splitting the tour and it's really a Privateering tour too. There is a slight chance I can make it up to Portland but I won't know for awhile.

What a brilliant career.

He does not want the celibrity he is only interested by strict musical success, he's a low profile now.

A couple of weeks before the cd was released lots of press media from many countries were called to go to London to a hotel where MK will answer questions to be released in newspapers later...

Maybe they didnt find it interest, or maybe only went some agencies, as in Spain almost all newspapers released the same...

This is the sort of bad interview. I mean this is a "pool day" were interviews are to be sort of "ten minutes only allowed" and Mark see many journalists asking more or less all the same questions. This is just promotional work. For a newspaper it is quite cheaper then to use the agency interview than sending  somebody at its own expense.

Most of the spanish newspapers reproduced what MK said in the EPK...

That is exactly what an EPK is for.

Remember John Lennon's Rolling Stone interview in 1971 (I wasn't even born)? It went on for about 20 pages, and he said "fuck" in every second sentence! Good old days ...

Hey how come fuck word is not spammed and sex (S E X you read spam)  is?   ;D

Here in Greece I have the same problem with previous releases. I bought a magazine to read the "exclusive" and I knew the interview already from other magazines.

A new form of journalism: exclusive from everywhere...
