A turquoise, rusty old LDV van!

These limited edition signed lithographs were pretty nice - haven't had them for a while now.  Was it just the STP tour or did they do one on another tour too?  I seem to remember they sold out during the tour, so those going to concerts at the end of the tour couldn't get one.

Personally, I've never been keen on clothing at concerts! ;)

This is what I send, just in case any of you wants to ask the same and make it possible:

T-shirts are always nice, I always love that one with all the dates at the back, maybe it can be mixed with a live picture of MK playing his new blue Pensa, and a small picture of the cover at the high part of the left, I mean, the part of the shirt where my heart is behind.

Official Live Recordings is one of the items I would like to see, as happened with Get Lucky tour, its great to leave the concert with the recording of your live shows, Many companies as TheMusic.com or http://www.concertlive.co.uk do it with other artists and it works very well.

I'm sorry to disagree, but I don't like the live recordings idea.  The Simfy thing and the previous 2005 recordings were not very nice sounding imo and they seemed to stop bootleggers from recording the concerts and therefore trading too.  Some of the best recordings from Europe 2010 are audience and have a good mix, but there are hardly any because of the Simfy deal.

I love all of my Simfy recordings and I hope something similar will happen for 2013, however I still like to listen to bootlegs too.  I think there is a place for both to exist side-by-side.    :)    I do hope the wrong message won't be sent to PCM that we don't want Simfy-type recordings!   :-\

A soundboard recording is always better than audience recordings. I dont know why you say that Simfy and Crowfly recordings were not nice sounding, I find all of them great. Its true that some of the mixes are not the best, but they are soundboards, it means that the acoustic of the venue, the mics, the recorders etc doesnt have a role in how it sounds, sometimes we have crap audience recordings, sometime good ones, but soundboards are always better.

I really wouldn't know what to ask for. I really like the idea of a souvenir especially made for each show, but they somehow have to be prepared for the demand in a sort time(I guess that can be aranged with pre orders) , and at the same time produce an object that is not a  cheap custom made looking. I would be very fond of live recordings, even though I hardly have time to listen to all there are out there, so the question is what to give to a person that has everything but would accept anything that bares MK on. A DVD for every show means great expenses, a crew in every show to capture the show, mixing, post production, mastering etc. I don't think numbers (sales) would actually help.  Peter Green used to sell exclusively  at his concerts a CD,and I know Archive do the same. Some bands used to (and I think one or two still do it ) leave a copy of CD (r) with demos on each seat, or a 7'' single, or a specially made tour program included in the ticket price. So not much of a merchentice but a great souvenir and surprise. I also like badges, stickers, fridge magnets, framed photos, baseball hats -no t-shirts for me please, MK has been making fun of these merchentise in his song-  but I don't get to wear/use them anymore. But it is all about music and I think that all the rest are just teasers. I always liked the tour programs and I miss the Get Lucky one. If anyone has a spare copy, let me know!

The soundboards like Simfy and Crowfly were compressed and the mix didn't sound good IMHO.

These days, I think nearly all audience recordings are very good to brilliant in terms of quality.  Oh dear, I've a lot to live up to when I attempt mine next year now!

The main issue though was the effect it had on the number of people recording the gigs.  Hardly anyone recorded the gigs when they knew they were available on Simfy and, of course they weren't traded so if you wanted to hear all the concerts you had to purchase overpriced, poor sounding, poorly mixed downloads instead of a free, nice sounding audience recording.  Long live the bootleggers! ;D

I don't mean any disrespect, I do enjoy talking with you about such matters, and I understand the use and seriousness of the original  products, but if you can make something like a t-shirt or mag or hat with your personal taste and create a unique item, does it really matter that it doesn't come from an official provider? Forexample,I really like the direstraits guitar thing used for the first 3 albums. But I do not expect to find any t-shirts or hats with it on! (Actually I was presented with two , 6 years ago, one black and one white and I love to wear them. They block the sun nicely and fit my head perfectly.  ;) I also saw this very same guitar, this summer in electric blue t-shirt. An older shabby man wore it!)

I usually get T shirts but don't wear them that often so they don't fade or get "tatty".  They are also reasonably priced compared to some other stuff- I thought the signed lithographs were quite expensive for what they were.  I'm not sure I'd want a T shirt with the Privateering cover on though - what other image from the new album could they use? - yes, a nice guitar close up!

My favourite ever tour merch is my small metal pin badge of the National with "Dire Straits" running up the neck.- I still wear that but would be really upset if it fell off & I lost it.   Some metal pin badges of a red Strat with a rosewood neck would be nice! They used to sell things like that in music shops but I haven't seen any for ages.
I'm firmly in favour of the simfy recordings - most bootlegs I've heard are spoiled by crowd noise, -usually a "clown" standing next to the recorder whistling or shouting requests !  I bought 3 (downloads) from the last tour & think it was money well spent.

How about a nice quality polo shirt with embroidered "MK" lettering on it?  I think they done T-shirts like that for the STP tour, but I don't know if the letters were embroidered or just stickers.  I prefer something more discrete, then you could wear it every day and it would still look classy.

I wouldn't have much to say in terms of merchandising, there's no shows in the US anyway.  But I'm sure some nice AMIT members would assist me in securing some next year.

I agreed on a tour T-shirt with Mark and one of his magnificient guitars preferably a red strat for me with tour dates in the back in  different colors.  white, black red, grey, blue, yellow etc.  I love wearing T-shirts with both Mark's name and picture on it.  It's sooo cool.  Keychain like the one during GL tour is nice. It has to be better design though, because the one I got during GL broke already after only a few months.  Good thing I bought two of them.

And of course a LIVE DVD for fans who couldn't attend the shows.  Unfortunately there will be plenty of them next year.

Arrgh if I had the freaking FORTUNE of money that MK has, I'd fund the whole damned thing myself! What the heck is the point of having any excess of money at all if it's not gonna be used for something meaningful? This would have meaning for soooo many people... and for me it's certainly more meaningful than "investing" in art as a commodity, or whatever the reasoning for buying an art gallery is.

I just want the programme and a quality pin/badge.    The Get Lucky one was cheap.   Some of the older ones are fantastic.     I do like the t shirts, but I never wear them.   I should.   But I don't.

I don't like t-shirt with "face" (whoever it is) on it...
For exemple I loved the Get Lucky Lady fit (the grey one) and the red lady fit shangri la! I do wear my MK Tshirts often (but then men fit only for sleeping or for sport :lol...)
Maybe we could have a book with all the promo pics...
And indeed again some smify recordings.... and a live DVD !!!

LOL Knopflerized, that is a nice idea! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/Grinning.gif)

I also like a book with pictures and information/lyrics of Privateering and the symfy recording! It brings back good memories and of course we need a live DVD of the concerts we attend! That would be a wonderful memory!

I still like my special fan T'shirt, but I am not sure if it still fits after so many years! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/Roflbig.gif) .....Otherwise I might buy another shirt, but only if there is a beautiful pic on it with Mark or with Mark and the band members!

Nababo you just read my mind! I would love a hot wheels replica of the track! And yes the B-sides and some out takes would do greatly. I don't know about sheet music. There are a lot of books out there, and rather expensive too, and would only please the musicians among us! Let's face it, we have everything and we want a souvenir. An official one. How about that comic book with the story of DS?   Or an edition of STP and GH in vinyl? Or make available again the DVD edition of STP? I have to confess that when it comes to musicians, I expect music, though I used to buy other memorablia as well. So how about a specially made CD, with some of the songs from The Princess trust shows/Knebworth/Mandella live?

More seriously... I've emailed them with :

- Towels (black) with a "Privateering " print  (like the one the guys use on stage).
- Posters ( no litho)
- Glasses cases.
- Sound Recordings, like Simfy .... Video taping with something like Simfy?
- A book with the promo pics ( by Fabio Lovino)
- An official Calendar

Since Simfy was introduced for the European leg of the GL tour in 2010 we had only a few recordings from bootleggers during that leg (presumably because they thought the soundboards would be a nice souvenir).  These are (from memory): Hamburg, Badalona, Birmingham and a few RAH nights (which weren't available on Simfy anyway).  For the North American leg where Simfy wasn't available there are many, many more.  I think it's pretty evident that the availability of the soundboards had a major effect on the number of recorded shows by bootleggers.

Now that may be fine if you don't collect and only want a copy of the show you went to, but personally I do collect and want to have as many as possible so these Simfy recordings have been the bain of my existence, especially due to their terrible mix and not-so-good compressed sound.

I therefore hope sincerely that we do not see their like again on any future tour and cannot understand the demand for them on here. :)

I know I have said it before somewhere, but I think there is a place for both and I wouldn't want the wrong message to be sent to MK.com or PCM about official recordings not being wanted, because they have given me endless pleasure and it would be terrible not to have them!

It was great to have audience recordings last year in Europe and also this year in the US and Canada, due to the very good recordings of the likes of soomlos, hide, bach etc, who are actually Dylan fans and we were lucky enough to have the benefit of them.  Next year it is an MK only tour and I doubt if those particular people will be recording the MK concerts. I haven't noticed a similar quality from any MK audience recording so far, that I listen to, with as much pleasure as I do with my Simfy recordings, therefore something similar would be wonderful!

I must add, though, that before Simfy came along, I was delighted with the bootlegs that were available to us and was grateful for them and I still am!   There will always be a need for bootlegs, for that feeling of audience participation!    So, I hope the bootleggers will keep on recording in the future - alongside the official ones!   :)

PS - I have emailed my request for merchandise:

An official recording of the concerts, similar to Simfy

A guitar pin

A decent, well-fitting girlie shirt! None of those boxy, strangely-shaped ones, only designed for overweights! And a decent writing on it. No picture. I thought the 2006 ATRR ladies shirt was fine.

Belle and Sebastian, this great band have issued playing cards, as well. They sell them through their official shop, but still. They have issued postcards, visor, frisbee, badges, tshirts, a fan's DVD, magnets, notebooks, stickers, paches, mugs, tshirts (for kids as well! lately they even produced sleepsuits!), scarfs, bags, art prints, posters, bookmarks, calendar, keyring. (I think I got them all)

Get some ideas from here:
http://www.belleandsebastianshop.com/department/clothing/
And if you have time, listen to their records. They are great! Start with the collection of EPs and singles "Push barman to open old wounds" and continue with "If you're feeling sinister" or vice versa.

Bringing up an old post... again.
Just thought this was really interesting that so many ideas that were bandied about here were actually realised.  First and foremost, live recordings... YES.  And instead of a pin in the shape of a guitar, we got the USB sticks in the shape of his strat...   :D

I saw coffee mugs, keychains, tour programs, sweatshirts, polo shirts and several t-shirt designs.  Sorry, Knopflerized... no MK teddy bears :( ... but that would have been fun!

So, maybe someone listens!!!  :clap

Oh, and I REALLY want the blue pensa lithograph...  does anyone have one they are willing to sell to me... please???    :wave
