Seems like yesterday but it is a setlist from the GH tour in 1996.
26 songs people...... How i love that album and hope he would play some more songs from that one. :wave

Yes, GH is a fantastic album. It would be great to hear some songs from that masterpiece. Songs like Darling Pretty, Don't You Get It, Are We In Trouble and so on......... ;D
-
Will be interesting to see if they continue in this vein of rotating more than 1 song.
I think they got the message that at this stage of their careers there are a lot of fans who have been to shows on several tours.
Now that is out of the way the next issue to try and get sorted is the length of the show.
Why can't they play for 2.5 hours as a standard rather than 2 hrs.Is is a stamina issue or do they feel 2hrs is enough.
I don't think it is ,most concerts are 2.5 hours +.
I am not going to bother Guy with this for various reasons but the length of the show is something i wonder about.
-
Guy Today: ''Past tour setlists are not really considered.''
yes, they are just 100% copied plus 3-4 songs from the new album
Exactly, i just can't believe why Mk won't play TOL, PI or whatever ,he always sticks by SFA, BIA, SOS and so on. I know he will play whatever he likes, but then I think, wouldn't it be more fun to play some of the OTHER songs out of such a long career??? Not just to please fans like us ( ;D) but just for his own fun ? Surely he must be getting tired of playing those same songs tour after tour after tour?
But then, even the jokes don't change after all these years apperently... :disbelief

Most concerts i go to are 2 hours max.
Paul Simon, Coldplay, Mumford and Sons, Depeche Mode, Metallica,to name a few. Not longer than 2 hours
Ofcourse there are artists like Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Leonard Cohen (still going strong) who have a longer set.
In my opnion a normal concert takes 2 hours..........
-
Even the DS concerts were "only" around 2 hours. The only exception was the GH tour and that was probably due to all the film music played which gave Mark a bit of a break. Take away all that film rubbish and even these concerts were about 2 hours as well. In fact only the early ones in Ireland and the Vaison one were really long. London 23rd May e.g. was pretty standard length.

I think it would be nearly impossible to please "fans like us". Just read 80 % of the posts of the last few days and I wonder if I need a new defintion of the word "fan"... :disbelief

The GH concert I was at in Leeds lasted just over 3 hours, but that included a 20 min interval. We did get 26 songs, a few of which were from the soundtracks, which I really loved (not rubbish dmg)! ;)
I remember Max Bell, a music journalist at the time saying he went in clean-shaven and came out with a beard. I still have the newspaper cutting. I really loved that concert and I was walking on air for weeks afterwards! :P
-
Any news on the setlist this evening ???
-
Val, why was there a 20 min intervall? Never heard of that!
LE
-
Awaiting SETLIST feedback, but there seem to be Internet issues in Belgrade, or so I was prewarned

You know the answer, it's easy - don't go to the concerts if they don't suit you! Go to see someone else instead! ::)
Last nights setlist was beautiful - he catered for everyone's taste and played five songs from Privateering! He obviously doesn't want to play TOL or PI and personally I would much prefer he played what he is happy playing, otherwise he wouldn't have his heart in it! :)
-
Val, why was there a 20 min intervall? Never heard of that!

Probably because it was so long! It's the only one I've been to with an interval, I have to say. :)

Real internet issues in Belgrade. No updates so far. Checked it a couple of times to make sure there's no update.

I kind of disagree here.
He's playing standard so he doesn't need to leave comfort zone.
There was much more heart and joy in it back in 96.
Sorry to say.
Seems like dew weather is starting; at least AFTER Bucharest...
Nevertheless, also last night's show was still 2/3 standard... Beautiful songs, of course, but still songs in an order and way more or less as we've heard them very often for the last 8 years

Yes, that was my plan. My first of 5 shows is on 11 may. But mission failed :-[ Tension was too high...

I'm passing the time watching The Champions League on TV with the laptop on my lap awaiting the set list. Guess what - no goals! :smack

Are you sure about only 2 hours? I was for example at the DS concert in Rotterdam on 30 may in 1992. As far as I can remember he started exactly at 20:00 and the show ended around 23:15. The same was with the GH tour, when they also played for more then 3 hours and played 22 songs. :D

Are you maybe including the opening act? From Elvis to Wild Theme was approx. 2 hrs. on the bootlegs.
-
It was printed on the tickets in 1992 because of opening act Was Not Was that "Dire Straits will perform a full 2 hour set". Cannot believe he ever played three hours in his whole career.

I saw them in '91 and there was no opening act. Can't recall the length of the gig though. Memory isn't that good!
I also saw Mark in '96 and it was an early one (just before Val, I think 5th May Edinburgh) so that would probably have been a long one too. I don't recall an intermission though.

Din't just see the negative, Mr. Chairman ;)

5:15 am is the best song MK has written since he is solo. I LOVE this song and have long given up to hope for hearing it live! It is great to have it now at least once and I can change Sultans for that anytime. Have enough versions of Sultans already (well, can you really?). But it is indeed strange that he doesn't play Sultans! Our Shangri-La was great with Emmylou, but in general I could name a few songs I would prefer at the end of a show... Long Highway vor example...
Great news - apart from "decent"...
LE
-
That's the first "standard" MK/DS show without Sultans in the set. :'(
-
Wow i love 5.15 am as far as i know its never been played live before .I am sure the experts will confirm this or otherwise.
-
Sultans is his signature song - he can't not play it! Boo. Want my money back.
5:15 or Sultans! Get a grip!
-
Strange Setlist, difficult to believe...
-
5:15am is a BRILLI-effing-ANT song....too bad the boring song called "shangri la " is back, hope it is a one off. totally uninteresting. rest of the set though...niceeeee
-
Only 3 DS songs.
Maybe one day when Mark will be about 70 - 75 yo he will play a setlist with no DS song at all ...
I'd love to hear some MK/EH songs on the set, especially I dug up a diamond !
-
Also position changes. No Brothers in Arms again.
-
Well, he can!
5:15 am has never been played live, not even at promo stuff etc. Great news! Would love to hear it RIGHT NOW, together with Seattle...
Dreaming of a collection of all best versions of all played songs from this tour - really great views!
Bonaparte in, Sultans out - who would have thought!
LE
-
indeed EM! nice choice. listened to that one again recently, underrated album by myself and many others.
-
jbaent, start working on a compilation amigo!!

I was at the Leeds GH show and i dont remember an interval (i could be wrong though. . it was a long gig though, i was lucky enough to meet Mark, Guy and Chad after too!
Either way i wish MK still had the same fire in his playing as he had then and would give us just a few more DS tunes
-
Maybe your source is having us on Pottel? The other night we had PONO and all sorts for a while.
-
There are thousands of people who go to see a concert for only DS songs, let's face it. I think it's too bad for them not to hear SOS.
-
Too much work, Pottel ;D
Are you sure its not a joke?
-
With Nigel H on the sax, we could have the 30 songs !
My guess for the sax songs : R&J, Your latest trick, Behind with the rent, Radio city serenade, Why aye man
-
no joke
spoke to source
if it were a joke, it would be a bad one, i would have chosen far more interesting titles (long highway comes to mind...)
-
Maybe your source is having us on Pottel? The other night we had PONO and all sorts for a while.
Seems realistic to me. One new song again, after Seattle, one new per show. The other ones have been played before, Miss You Blues 2012 for example...
LE

Great setlist!
5.15 :clap
Sos :wave

That would have spoiled my nights sleep! ::)

If they had played 5:15 am AND Long Highway in ONE show, I would have jumped in the air literally. Just out of joy and happiness - I have to add that at this place...

Couldnt agree more. . why play SFA too, i dont get it. . . i wanna hear him play Private Investigations again! i suspect he couldnt play some of those songs like he used to even if he wanted to though
-
We know there is no DS anymore but still.. Most of us have seen him live for more than any other person in that Show. We've probably seen SOS or any other DS songs for thousands of time and that's why we like it when he plays his solo songs for the first time especially. But I admit I would really be disappointed if I was one of random guy in that hall. That's my 2 cents.
-
I admit I would have been totally in heaven to hear all these songs. Miss You Blues is my favourite from the Privateering album, although I remember it sounded not too good last year, played only once or twice...

you (we) guys are a funny bunch of lurkers...
Complaining show after show about DS stuff, and as soon as SoS is out:
He cannot skip that one, no, he can't... Imagine the DS fans who want him to...
What do we want? What do we care for???
I think sometimes it's really better to shut up and enjoy... :-X

Well, finally the best show of the tour was the Range Rover show...

Well, I was (just) speaking for myself.
But as LE wrote it earlier today:
The definition of a fan may have changef in certain people's opinion...
Forums are ok. Sometimes, though, quite embarrassing things happen

I was just thinking from other people's perspective. They may have seen him for the first time and their expectations might differ, which I can understand.
-
Nobody speaks of closing down the forum. I was about writing something similar as MOAT, indeed I had a looooong post ready to post but deleted it...
If you folks going for the right to complain all the time about everything MK is doing, please allow others to complain about the fact that so many forumers are complaining!
I ask myself where are we? MK is touring folks! MK live is the best thing since printed press - only thing similar is MK releasing a new album (oh sorry I fall into fan boy modus sorry). But as a AMIT member I thought it is not forbidden to like him...
It is noticable (to me) that all members that have attended a show of this tour are totally impressed and happy with it whereas the rest (of us) sits in front of a screen, waiting for a "live set list" and immediatly start to complain about everything. Like a reflex. Why not just looking forward to it?

NO Sultans Of Swing :o :o :o :o....................what a surprise :hmm :hmm :hmm
It's a huge step back compared to the three first shows. I like 5:15, so that's not bad. I'm not happy to see IUTC, SFSL, DWB, MYB and the killer OSL on the list.
I really miss YTC, BIA and his signature hit SOS........I'm gonna cry, if SOS is cut away when I attend my 2 shows in june :'( :'( :'(
This is not good news :thumbsdown

Hey thanks for that. I did not follow the 2012 Bob tour with the usual enthusiasm. In fact I have not listened to one complete show. Only some tracks.
Some sounded good, most sounded worse than 2011. Also his voice was not as good as 2011 and he made many mistakes. Just as one wrote today:
He made a giant step from 2012 to this new tour. Much more power.
Maybe I will look for some of the versions of Miss You Blues again. Thanks again.

with SOS out, all the 'untouchables' can be out too, Romeo Telegraph What it is Speedway
R&J is the most untouchable !
Never been left , even during the MK/EH & MK/BD tours ! I'm a little fed up with this song, it's always a skipper when I listen to a live album or bootleg

MK/EH, MK/BD tours !
ok but those were not full shows, or at least I don't personally consider them as such
I agree that probably most of the fans don't see these tours as "real" MK tours, but he made a lot of shows with them and maybe learned that a set can work out fine without Sultans. I guess they are still experimenting the set and Sultans will come back for sure.

Well, Alan and John deserves better than all the boring stuff that's being played now. >:(
-
I won't comment too much before giving them a chance to see it live but I don't have good feelings about the setlist changes.
From the begining it misses one killer song to be played every night in the first third of the show : crows, BR, KOG, Coyote. Anyone is ok.
Rocking songs are kicked out and repleaced by .... :thumbsdown
What's next ? If he removes M, TR and HFB there's nothing left :disbelief

Just turned on my computer and was delighted to see the beautiful 5.15am was played, BUT really sad to see it was instead of SOS! It's one step forward and three steps back imo! I'm all for shaking up the setlists, but other more boring songs could have been replaced instead of SOS, which has been played magnificently so far! Feeling a bit sad! :'( Hope it's back for my concerts! :)

I've had a strange dream this night. It was a MK concert that I attended with my brother. It was his first MK gig and we had a lovely time. In the middle of the fantastic Romeo And Juliet, we could feel the adrenalin getting higher. We knew that the climax of the evening was really close now. Based on a lot of videos at the internet, we could'nt wait anymore to hear the fresh, fast and powerful version of Sultans Of Swing played in the few shows before this evening. Now we were placed on the front of our seats, just to be clear for the magic moment ;D ;D
But instead of Sultans we got Song For Sonny Liston ( of all songs, just to make the situation even more confused ) :o :o
It wasn't easy to find a face that could match such an anti-climax :think :think
Strange and weird dream indeed................................................

My brother will be coming with me to the Liverpool concert and it will be his first MK gig. He isn't a fan as such, but likes SOS, TR, BIA etc so I hope SOS, at least will be played, especially as it is so good at the moment! I agree with you, R&J and SOS seem to go hand-in-hand with each other and definitely not coupled with Sonny! ::)
-
5.15 AM... Well here is one i never thougt would see the light of day :thumbsup
But no Sultans in a full MK concert ??? It feels like Eagles and no Hotel California, Paul Simon and no Sound of Silence....
Hope MK does it not at every concert.. It is the song that has made him this great.. People who come to see him for the first or second time expecting this song for sure!!!!!!!
-
R&J -SOS is a good combination. I guess most people like both and if you can't really get used to the solo work, you need it not to get bored.
For people like myself who can't stand R&J, it's ok if we know we 'll wake up 8 minutes later.
But a 45 minute sleep until Marbletown that's not serious.

It's not a specific song that made him great.
He is great wthout SOS.
But SOS is a great song without a doubt...
I could do without R&J.
I bet the whingeing was the same if the latter had been omitted...
Funny :lol
Just my 2 cents...

I have a feeling that it is, in general, the male of the species that dislike R&J! I love it, especially coupled with SOS and I hope I hear them played together again at one of my concerts. I listened to last night's R&J and I was almost in tears, because it was sung with much feeling.

WOULD maybe happen to other greats such as TOL as well, if it had been overplayed so much.. ;)

Disagree. Sultans is the song that made him great. Without it he/DS may not have broke or got on the air. Also, 90% of people going to the concerts expect to hear MFN, BIA or Sultans and now he didn't play any! Fans last night will look retrospectively on it as disappointing because they didn't hear their hits. As Mark says himself: "these songs are like milestones in peoples lives."

Agreed. Removing Sultans really disturbs me. So far Mark has managed to keep a small, but excellent core subset of DS, that captures well what it was about: Sultans (the one that started it all and remains one of the best songs of all times), R&J (the romantic one, personnally I'm tired of it and I think TOL would be a much better representative of the Making Movies Period), TR (the peak of musical complexity, flirting with progressive Rock, Pink Floyd style), and BIA (maybe the most touching song of all times). Ocassionnally, SFA, which is nice but no masterpiece and can be disposable. I'm glad he removed WOL, which is what people used to say DS was just pop music. I wish MFN would be resurrected, it was a hit but it is a very good song. To make the set perfect OES should come back as a representative of the OES album (better than Calling Elvis !).
But removing Sultans, like it would be for TR or BIA, is really disturbing. The core DS subset is falling apart...
-
I agree. SOS has a paticular status. No problem if not played from time to time but it must be replaced by something equivalent : MFN, TOL, BIA or OUATITW.
-
Great set list. He's varying his set more than any other tour already...so far.
Delighted he put 5.15am in. :clap .. one of his better songs.

Diagree strongly!!!
It didn't make him great. It made him big!
But MfN, WoL, SfA, BiA made him much BIGGER.
GREAT is something else.
MK is great in general

Well, it seems it is impossible for Mark to decide a set list that even would make 5 % of his die hard fans happy. So who cares. He can and he should play what he wants. Really, can't hear it anymore... it is better to stay away from this forum, but not for set-list spoiler reasons but for not being spoiled - by the fans... >:(
So he did not play Sultans. It gets more relevance now. It is not a given thing anymore. 2011 the whole set was freshened up and it had no Sultans, too, and I cannot remember that it was missed that much. Songs are called the "usual suspects" when played every time and are critized for "always the same." Now he chooses to take away one "milestone" and plays two or three not yet heard songs on this tour and even 5.15 am (masterpiece), but almost all we read is "well, there are 5 or 6 or 15 pee breaks in this set". That is so discusting and really stupid if you ask me. One advice: If you want to hear Walk Of Life, Money For Nothing and Solid Rock, go to the tribute bands and leave us alone with your constant moaning... Why on earth are you reading these tour threads if everything is wrong? Is that some kind of masochism or something? Not even midday yet und already pissed, thanks amit...

Personnally I appreciate the set lists, I defended the idea that jumping at Guy's jugular on the first night was counter-productive, and I never mentionned anything about pee breaks. I appreciate all the songs (with the exception of Sony Liston, hey, everyone is entitled to one exception). I confined myself to remarking that removing Sultans disturbed me... but that will not prevent me from attenting and enjoying the shows. Anyway I prefered Sultans with keyboards and even with Sax ! so I'll go and watch my Live Aid DVD :)
-
Great to see some changes. Although, I'm taking two younger brothers and a younger sister to Antwerp, they'll want to hear Sultans for sure. He should have dropped R&J instead. Or DWP. Or SFSL.
My thoughts? Sultans is gone for good on this tour. It worked without SOS on the EH tour and on the Dylan tour. Sultans is gone very early on in the tour, so it's only fair that the majority of the concertgoers on this tour won't get to hear it. The people on the first 3 shows, well they just got lucky.
Personally, I could go without, but I think many people will disagree.

There is something more about not playing his all time hits...
There are countries & sitie he goes every tour ( from DS era). But he doesn't come that often in Belgrade and Sofia ( other sities too) so the people here expect to hear exactly SOS, BIA and MFN.
People here were a little bit disappointed he didn't play BIA... But would be disaster if he didn't play SOS... It's his second time - DS never came here in the past ...this concert maight be the first for most audience and without SOS they would be sad...
I can imagine the audience in Belgrade...which knows him mostly from DS era as it is here in Sofia.

I tend to agree: if he plays "classics" he is criticized because they are always the same; if he plays new songs he is criticized because he neglected the classics. This is why I don't understand those who complain because Mark doesn't listen to his fans. What fans should he listen to? Out of a thousand people there would be a thousand different setlists.
That said, for me SOS is essential. if it really have to be replaced, TOL only (and no other) would be appropriate in its place :)
-
The "forum" and "respect" thing is always coming up at this point - it is not a free ticket for moaning all day if you ask me - and speaking of "respect" : For MK and his descisions, it is what I miss here from time to time to be honest... but enough said, for me matter closed. We have a bank holiday today and it is a sunny day, I think it's better to "get a life"... take out the bike and go for a ride... 8)

No, I wasn't kidding! Somehow your post put things into perspective. I have always said that I don't care what MK plays so long as he is still touring and playing in front of me. Of course, I am disappointed that SOS has disappeared, but I know it will be a nice surprise when it pops up again, which it surely will when I am least expecting it! :)

We have to remember this is a MK solo tour, not DS. So really he doesnt have to play any of the old bands songs. Thats possible how he sees it.
-
LE, your comments made me sad...
As for me I don't mind whatever he plays I would be happy...
But it's easy to judge people's opinion you privileged people in Germany... MK comes to your country every time...People in Belgrade was not that lucky over the years...
Peace! And have a nice day ;D ;D ;D

How about peeing at home and then exercise your bladders by sitting in? Thats what I mean when I say "Respect the others opinions and the freedom of expresse them".
A moaner gives his own opinion and express his own feelings, freely-
A moaner who moans about moaners kind of tell that the moaners are wrong, so kinda say what is the right thing to think.
And then there is one even worse, the moaner that moans about who moans about moaners.
And thats me. So I know what I say when I say that everybody has to respect about other opinions, and that I'm dissapointed with two people that were disrespectful with other fans. I

jbaent, moaning about moaners is moaning about their lack of respect for MK.
It has nothing to do with saying they're wrong in their point of view.

I wish I could keep this forum free from this rubbish but as jbaent doesn't answer PM, this will be my last post:
You get it wrong. You miss the point. You are an Editor. Pointing out to people IN PUBLIC but not having the balls to address them personally IN PUBLIC is defintely not the right way and has nothing to do with your strange moaner-moaner-moaner-moaner-theory. PM them when you feel you have to say them what's wrong, but don't attack them in the name of "tolerance". Best joke of the day.
But you made me come to a decision. That's for sure.
Bye.

Ok, guys and girls,
my opinion:
1. Calm down and don't write for an hour or so. You know I wrote to Guy some days ago and I felt I had to apologize which I did. Premature reaction is what happened and I learned my lesson well. Learn from my lesson too.
2. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Moaning, happiness, boredom, distraction. All fine, but keep the spirit levels high. And respect eachother for that opinion, even when you disagree. That's what made me happy some days ago. Herlock strongly disagreed but when he saw I made my apologies he was a gentleman to forgive me too. That's the way it should be.
3. Leaving is not an option. It doesn't make anyone stronger, it doesn't make this community stronger. Good discussion make life richer
4. All the people who are writing here are very strong people, we do have a lot in common, not only our love for MK. Also our personalities seem to fit well (and because of that can lead to crashes too) As said by moat, don't crash the ambulance!
5. No-one is leaving now: I personally come and take you back ;)
-
Come on folk - let's not all fall out over... What were we talking about again?
It's sometimes hard to express our exact feelings and of course the tone in our voice on a forum and I'm sure no one meant any offence. Kiss and make up. :-*

I always said I don't deserve to be an editor, actually I don't act like it.
And yes, you are right, I was wrong here. I don't hesitate to admit when I'm wrong, I wish everyone would do the same
I think its the wrong decision that you leave because I did wrong, but who am I to tell you what to do or say.

Interesting, how they spelled Mark last name "NOFLER"
I'm very surprised that SOS was not in the set. :disbelief . It'll be intersting to read concert reviews of the show.
It's only the fourth show and Mark has already varied his set quite a bit, I'm impressed. :thumbsup :clap
-
Curious if he would drop SOS in Italy too - Italian people will sing it instead - he should know that ( just kidding) ;D ;D ;D

In the review they are polite - they said the audience was a little bit disappointed by not playing DS all time fav songs - well I was sure they would...

When he didnt play MFN at Athens in 2008 I thought a riot was going to start.

Oh, sorry for being in the foreground so much... never intended to leave. Decision was made to better step out of the first row - using AMIT in future as the best source for information about MK that there is on Earth - fast, reliable, complete (touring, dates, set lists, YT Clips) - but not so much for posting THAT MUCH anymore - look at smart people like Dusty- posting one time every three months, never getting trouble.. ;D But then again, there is Ingrid... :wave
thanks Ingrid, Dutchessy, MOAT for the nice pms, thanks jbaent
and sorry to all the people who are NOT here for reading this crap but still wait for the 5.15 am clip...
So he ditched Sultans. Bastard.

Thanks, Ingrid! I haven't been active here since years and i was surprised about my nickname when the password reminder e-Mail told me about it ;D i totally forgot it.
Ah, and now something on-topic: I also think that SoS is a core song that millions of people expect on a MK-concert - but i have to say that i would be happy with an "only" MK set. So dropping SoS (and BiA) is OK for me. But i really think MK just forgot to play it :lol He ain't the youngest person anymore...

Hey, thank you Glenn! Very coom that he tries something new(as long as its not in favor of sos) ;) However, I do think 5:15 sounds a bit tame live..just IMHO :)

Wonderful

Thank you GennT! Personally - dare I say it - I think there is too much cittern and piano! I would rather have heard more of the beautiful guitar that is on the album version. It probably needs a bit more work and practice, but I'm sure that it will get better with time, like others have done in the past! ;)

not one of my fav's :-\ ...let's change again i'd say :think

It surely was a surprise for me when he started playing it. I agree that the song needs more guitar in it. It didn't sound bad at the concert though.
-
I remember when I first heard Speedway played live and I was really disappointed, but look what it's become now - a firm favourite! So I think with time and some tweeks here and there, it will improve a lot with more playing! ;)
-
THANK YOU!
You're welcome! :)
Thanks everyone for being patient btw. I had a 7 hour bus ride back home and I'm exhausted. I took a few more videos, but my camera started over-heating and it would turn off in the middle of a song. I'll try to upload the other ones and maybe write a review or something. :D
-
Nice! Thank you! Yes we were patient, too busy with other stuff this afternoon :smack :lol
-
I agree. It sounds like a first try, which it was! But Mark playing only rhythm and Richard the solo is unusal. I guess it would grow after a frew more evenings... Great however that we had our man over there recording this unique event! Thank you very much GennT. Just imagine, if we had heard the news an no video..... :)

More songs! around 20 minutes! There is the intro to Donegan's Gone (2010), (Dark was the Night, Cold was the ground) followed by miss you blues! Awsome! :clap :clap

After two more listenings this live version of my favourite starts to grow on me already. Mark is singing very good imho.
And I would bet that the people at the Newcastle show will have this one in the set. So maybe I wait for some more shows before ordering this stick only because of this song! They may play at some more occasions!

Thanks for posting the clips everyone, looks like Mark is playing his red strat more this time, which is good in my view :) It's amazing he played 5;15am too.

Miss You Blues for me still doesn't work - it is too slow and sleepy compared to the album version. And shouldn't it be vice versa? Nice idea to surprise the people after that intro though. I like the fact that you can obviously expect some surprises during this tour.

Everything sounded a bit weak and turgid on that video! I think it had something to do with the sound, because Privateering and R&J sounded fine on another video clip! :hmm

R&J sounds rather nice this tour, as do the new Privateering songs; they sound more polished than they did last year and played with far more energy and enthusiasm. Good to see.
MYB was never a fav of mine anyway but it is lacklustre live, I agree.

Just read Isaac's blog for Belgrade and, interestingly, he said that as good as the album version of 5.15am is, he thought the live version was much better! So maybe you just had to have been there to appreciate it! ;) I hope there will be another chance somewhere else on the tour! :)

Hahah funny that Isaac mentioned the guy outside playing the guitar. He really sucked, but there were around 30 people around him after the concert. He surely pleased the DS audience that could have been disappointed by Mark's decision not to play Sultans.
A friend that came with me to Belgrade, only knew a few DS hits and couldn't even pronounce Mark's full name right, but when Marbletown started he couldn't believe what he was listening to. About the fighting: Almost the same thing happened some tours ago, don't you remembe? MK suddenly started to change things around a bit, and hell almost broke loose here. I guess MK's music really means something to us.. ;)

To me 5:15am builds up without actually coming to anything and the structure is a bit different from the norm - it's a bit of a nonconformist. I think it's okay but only because it's a little different! Nothing more than okay though and the live version sounds pretty similar to the album one, with a less powerful guitar tone.

Aren't we judging based on a version that is not complete ?? the video stops abruptly in the middle of a verse, maybe there is a great guitar solo after that ???

Ah ok :) Actually I agree with you on 5.15am, it is a bit strange, quite okay, but nothing more than that.
I always struggled to like Shangri-La, as much as I tried with good will. It is not bad per say, but I find it desperatly cold, little emotion in it. The single "Boom, like that" does the job, but does not thrill me like "What it is" or "Border Reiver". Only exception being Postcards, I really love it... so, when do I get to hear it ?? :)
-
In Richard's 'Notes from the Road', he says that the band is really enjoying mixing up the set. I imagine playing new songs adds a bit of excitement and challenge for them. :clap

was not online couple of month, ... but following all this posts here ... so much complaining, so here is my stuff:

Hey,
nice and short resum
-
Hm...
Guy says that band or Mark not being bored by any old tune. OK. Than what it is?
Do not get me wrong, I love MK solo stuff. If not more than DS, surely equally. And definitely I can confirm that there are many many solo songs which are better than many DS songs.
And actually I would not mind if he decide to not play any of DS songs at all on last tour. But to stick with that completely. Or if MK want to discard SOS? No probs at all, but discard SOS for all cities, not just for some. :hmm
Because when you discard SOS just in some cities, people can rightfully ask why? Do not fool ourselves here, SOS are No1 milestone for 90% + fans. I'd like to be surprised by any other song from solo albums and changing the setlist more that ever was welcomed idea for me, but ...I dunno; Sultans are just Sultans (no matter of who the drummer is and how he plays it).
When I saw on UTube some my all time favorites being played in some venues, I'd get that lovely thrill of not knowing will they be played in Zagreb too, but in the same time, I'd still equally love to go there, because of knowing, whatever he plays, the concert would be great in general because of SOS is in the middle of it. But now when I got "thrill" of knowing that SOS can be also be missed? :'( :disbelief It's not it any more... thank God at least I can prepare myself emotionally because the ticket is not so cheap to not go there at all, but I cannot imagine how would I felt with "No SOS surprise" right on the concert. Can it be even called a surprise for anybody? Or even "a pleasant" surprise? Is there a single person out there who would say "Hey what a lovely surprise! SOS was out tonight!" ???
As I wrote in the beginning what I think about solo albums, that stands, but, in the same time, I surely hope for SOS in Zagreb, and also I'm not the only one who will drive 6+ hours in one direction only to hear the tune. If MK comes to my town, and I can go to gig by taxi; it surely "hurts" much less to not hear SOS, instead of long long drive and than not to hear it. What about that types of fans?
Some said on GF forum that Clapton did not play Layla on last tour. Sure, but he's not played Layla at all - Am I silly for seeing that difference as I do? :think
Also, Is really OK for anybody to "attack" some of us who comment on UTube clips regarding the secrecy of setlist? I mean, when it's on UTube - it's out there.
You cannot forbid people to rec. and share. I'm intrigued by that type of secrecy once the tour starts and we are in year of 2013... ::)
Cheers to all ;)

Well in that case I'd say to those other people to get a new set pair of ears. You cannot deny that it was a good show. It wasn't easy for me (an Albanian) to take a 350km journey to Belgrade, which is the heart of a country we've been in war with only 14 years ago, just to attend a concert. But was it worth it? Hell yes!
