I remember a soundcheck recording from 2001 (?) where they played Silvertown Blues and Portobello Belle. I wish we could hear Silvertown, but i think it doesn't fit somehow... but Portobello Belle fits very well, i think.
But we won't get Silvertown or Portobello - for me it seems that this tour is almost the real first MK-solo Tour. There not that many Straits songs. I like it. Let's face it: we will never get a Straits concert again!

LE

which song ?

if it is PW, he always played it on telecaster
if it is Sultans, he never played it on this strat

and Gator blood must be in open tuning for slide, so it doesn't fit for both songs

Oh never thought of the Telecaster, I was thinking of the guitar he used for the recording on the album, and it seems he uses that same guitar for Gator Blood. -But I am no gear head at all and don't know a thing about open tunings. So it was all wrong of course. But the guitar is nice!  :lol

he used the white strat for the STP studio version (and live in 2001), but for PW (even for the studio version) he used the blonde telecaster (same used live for Belle star)

These are HIS songs, not ours. He is free. He can do what he wants. We should be happy to have the opportunity to listen to his excellent live shows. Better do not harden on these milestone thing. It is great that he left the autopilot status behind him! The surprises we might feel during the show with an unusual song popping up must be so much greater than just be able to listen to the 10.000th rendition of a song that we all have bazillions versions from on our hard disk...

Absolutely true !  For us hard core fans who has seen MK multiple times and hear SOS played in different styles, we can do without. But for fans who might have seen MK for the first time, it'll be devastaing, not to hear SOS played, plain and simple !! So, it's a must !!! :)

I am glad he is finally mixing up the sets a bit more, long overdue.(bring back BR, the best opener)

As for Sultans- It wouldn't bother me at all if he didn't play it but 95% of the attendees are not the same as us and will find it strange not being done...so probably should be played.

I think the policy is changing setlists, has nothing to do with  being dissatisfied or not
I see that, but I still dont get why a milestone like Sultans is ditched..it has always been a core foundation in MKs set..at least in my opinion
..which is not mark'S opinion. simple as that.
Still... :hmm He has himself uttered the opinion that these songs are milestones in peoples lives, and as dmg says..it is actually the very foundation of his career..I expect Sultans and would be devastated if its not played, although I heard it a thousand times before and numerous times live..Its just something about it and I think the majority of regular MK fans would expect to hear it as well

Absolutely true !  For us hard core fans who has seen MK multiple times and hear SOS played in different styles, we can do without. But for fans who might have seen MK for the first time, it'll be devastaing, not to hear SOS played, plain and simple !! So, it's a must !!! :)
:thumbsup

I think we've all enjoyed these recent Sultans videos and from yesterdays Milan version he shows just how he can improvise to keep it fresh even to us who have heard it thousands of times.  I know I'll never get tired of it and certainly the live experience is even better.

We must also bear in mind that most of the audience are not as hard-core as we are, as has already been said.

There's no new tune today....
They'll be rare now !
And the show length is just 2 hours, not one more minute, it's less than the previous tours that lasted about 10 minutes longer... :'(

Well, Guy said they had rehearsed 30 songs for this tour. So far 29 tunes have been played, that means only one new song left... I really hope they are able to throw in more new songs on the go. We are being spoiled with these setlists changes and new songs nearly every night, but Springsteen has actually played over 200 different songs during his still ongoing Wrecking Ball tour, so it should be possible for Mark to add some extra songs too 8)

Would have been catastrophic, so lets pray for no! He will eventually have to decide upon a more steady set when they are done running through all the rehearsed songs, so lets hope we see something close to the Torino-set..

Sorry Ingridswing; I couldn't help...    ;D
I would have been very happy with this set; even in Berlin or Amsterdam or London (or even more, because people there had more chances in the past to hear SoS)

PS: I bet MfN and WoL are just as much missed as SoS; so why bother?
When you go to see Clapton or Dylan you NEVER know what you're gonna get

You know I still love you MOAT ;-)  I am not disappointed tonight, I love ytc.  And Guy answered setlist will change, and it does! That's the way (aha aha) I like it. SFA was a great song in the Netherlands years ago, but last time the typical dutch waving during SFA didn't appear, so for me they can leave it behind them. In Amsterdam, going home would do I think.

MK can play whatever he wants. He is the writer off the songs!!! But MK is Sultans of Swing. That is the one song people expect and want to hear. Perhaps not for the fans who have seen him tour after tour but the arena's are not sold out with all that type of fans!!!  :wave

With a career as rich as his, there are now countless songs worthy of being played live. They just don't all fit in the usual 2 hours.

I'm not going to a concert every tour. Let alone multiple ones each tour. Also I'm more of an 'early years' fan (including Hillbillies and Neck and Neck for example). Yet I did not come home disappointed tonight. No Sultans was a bit of a surprise sure, but not so much because I desperately wanted to hear it. More because it was on the menu every time since forever apparently.

MfN and WoL I would love to hear as well as a number of others even though the latter it seems is not held in high regard around here. I would trade many of the new songs for some of the old ones but that's highly unlikely to happen. But as I said, I did not come home disappointed. It was a nice concert, he seemed energetic, I've never seen him play a Pensa before, they played 2 of the 3 songs from Privateering that I like, then there was Father and Son (I like Cal), then there was Paraguay (I like Shangri-la). It was a pleasure to watch him play, his fingers, his fretwork. No need to write Guy  ;D

I wanted to buy tickets for one of the RAH concerts as well but was too late. I would not mind seeing another one time and money permitting. And with this rotation that seems to be a new thing this tour chances are those of you that will attend more concerts have a good chance of hearing different songs as well. Hardly a bad thing no matter what he plays me thinks.

On a less serious note - if you can't stand some of the songs they are playing I think it's time for you to cut down on the number of concerts you're going to. There actually is such a thing as 'too much of a good thing' you know.  :lol :lol :lol

I don't agree with you Primi, cut down the concerts make it more like I hear sfsl in only one concert I attend. Now I attend more, more likely there will be at least one concert at least without it  :P
