It'll be interesting to hear the arrangement this time around...

Well, I'd like to see the comments if IUTC is to be replaced by "Don't forget your hat" or "Hot or what"... ;) Anyway, Diamond is a nice addition. Perhaps Go, Love, Bluebird, Submariner, Blood & water? My bet is Redbud tree and/or Radio city in RAH.

Whaauww "I Dug Up A Diamond"........Big Surprise and I am happy about that!  (http://audiocandy.com/images/smilies/clap.gif)

Although I am satisfied with all the songs that are played until now during the concerts, it would be nice to see some songs
from the All The Roadrunning album! .........Well who knows, perhaps Ruth Moody might join him on stage in Amsterdam singing
 "If This is Goodbye!"

I wish the fans in Bremen a great time! :wave

I like them both.
I''ll be honest with you : I don't like the whole Shangri-La album because the guitar tone is too smooth.
Tupelo live is different, the guitar is powerful and I was very pleased to see it live. I was desperatly expecting crows, I got Tupelo instead and it was great.

I remember in Edinburgh 2005 some Weegie shouted out (rather crudely) "hey Mark, I thought this was the Shangri-La tour?"  About 30 seconds later he played Tupelo!  I don't know if it was planned or if the mans roar was taken into account.  These intimate venues like The Playhouse are fantastic. ;D

I would be surprised if Mark plays Submariner or Radio City. I think they are, unfortunately, not typical choices for Mark's live sets... These songs are like So Far From the Clyde and Remembrance Day from Get Lucky, or In The Sky from Kill to Get Crimson. They are never played on the tours, although, in my opinion, they are the most beautiful songs from these albums. Why not? Maybe it is to difficult to recreate the mood of these songs live? I have no idea, but I am not surprised that Mark hasn't played Submariner or Radio City. Fingers crossed of course - they are the best songs on the album...

Dmg, this is utter blasphemy ! :p
I dug up a diamond is a gem from a fantastic album, I'm soooo happy with these great news ! The version on the RLRR DVD is fantastic, hope this one too, even without Emmy...
Always though the Attr album was underrated here, as if it was not a real MK album. To me it is one of the best, I like it better than SL !
Time to bring back Emmy in the band ? The blend of male and female voices was so great...

100% agree, I think there are songs for studio, and there are songs for live. IMHO
And I used to could is one of them...even if it's not a "musical gem" I guess it suits more to live than others songs quoted just above

It must have been a strange coincidence unless that man knew the setlist (who knows?), because the band was already set up for playing what turned out to be Tupelo.

Boring, repetitive lyrics at a snails pace.  I just don't see what positive it has.

used to could is a cool song, nice and blusey , not as good as my sonny tho:), maye he could do a blues sesh in the middle of the gig gator blood, sonny, and hot or what, you cant beat the house.

I would find it very repetitive
I love blues, but when it's blended with other tempo songs, other styles, not several 12-bars in a row ! too boring  :disbelief
for example I love the Layla album : the classic blues songs fit very well, because they are between other style songs, idem for the stones, etc...
but I must admit that listen to a Muddy waters, hooker or BB king entire album is sometimes  a litlle bit boring...

I saw BB king in concert some years gao, and well, fo course it was the legend BB kin, but after 3 or 4 songs... ::)

IUTC is a kind of joke to me, something the band uses to relax a bit - it reminds me so much of Two Young Lovers from DS. Enjoyable, but disposable, funny song, but no great song.

Diamond for Tupelo today. :think  Both Diamond and Tupelo are "sleepers" in every sense of the word as far as I'm concerned.

Can't understand why everyone loves Diamond??? :hmm  Give me Marbletown any day!

Boring, repetitive lyrics at a snails pace.  I just don't see what positive it has.

I respect your opinion though, but why everyone loves it so baffles me completely. :hmm :hmm
I guess it is because you don't like "haunting" songs.
You don't like KOG either, while most people (including myself) love it.
Agree that this kind of songs is repetitive, but repetitive in a nice way, that grows on you (unlike Sonny that just get on my nerves). The guitar duel between Mark and Richard is awesome in IDUAD, the guitar solo is amazing in KOG...
I guess this is a matter of taste. You stated your favorite from Privateering was Bluebird, which leaves me perfectly cold. On the other hand your dislike Marbeltown, which I love like most people, because it just grows on you with plenty of little variations...

Only treasures like SoS, TR, TOL, BIA, Speedway,... reach a consensus here...

Diversity of tastes is a treasure ! :)

Cheers

Diamonds back great. I was a bit worry that ATRR was completly forgotten since there are really good stuff on it and yes Mark did it. I would have liked to there....

About BB King live, he was a fantastic act until the 90's but in the 00's he just aged and was not the same performer anymore.

Best Sultans in years (for me).

Diamond was indeed slightly new arranged. Better in my opinion. The whole show was really great. Mark's voice was very well, so much timbre, soul and feeling, like on the albums. Were there greenies? Yes! Did that do anything to me? NO! The setlist works sooo well - you have to hear it live to understand what Guy talks about all the time. Marbletown is too long with 13 minutes (as Isaac had it, 13 minutes too long, but that would be too harsh in my opinion). Haven't listened to the latest Marbletowns, therefore I was surprised by a pretty wild bass/violin duel. Pretty cool.
Gator Blood and Postcards is a great combi. Mike really had fun during Postcards, dancing, laughing, fooling around.
Ianto is definitely better for this band. So much energy on Sultans, running like a clock, really phantastic!

Met a lot of people, also one friend not from the forum but from the old days, really nice to meet him there so unexpected. Mona Dee, Pottel, Dutchessy, Ingrid, Knopflerized, Meggie, Marc96er, Isaac and Jeroen, and some others, too. So many people, but not enough time. Obviously we were all late (because of football and traffic?) so there was no fan meeting as planned. Was nice to see you all! I love Nellys accent!  ;D

Pottel, thank you for your generosity! Great stuff. Will send it back to you by post or we meet in London at the latest.  ;)

:D  Oh I love Marbletown too, one of my favourites, but just a little bit too long inmo... after the silent part, there is the big builiding-up band part, and then ... there is another long silent part at the final again, and that's new developed since 2011, and those little part ist just too long for me... but who cares, for me, Marbletown is an integral part of the set and has to stay where it is!

Sunday morning, here he comes - the MK pre-concert blues.... mixed with excitement and enthusiasm... great night it was!  :wave

Personnally I love the long Marbletown: this is the last proof that Mark was once into extended stuff, bad-ass versions. Since there is no more sax break and keys in Sultans, Marbletown takes over as the bad-ass extended song... and it is a good show case for the band... and yes there is this build-up to the finale, there is something of the extended TOL in this finale... so, for all theses reasons, I love it ! :)

I do really have to say that Mark gets better the older he gets  :)
Except from some tiny little parts his guitar work was brilliant last night. Sultans was great, the solo part of Piper was gorgeous! I dug up a diamond was great, but with Richard on the other Gibson it would have been better (like on the ATRR-Tour). But that way the song had a relaxed mood - quite fine.

And i have to say that Mark's voice sounds brilliant now! Haul away was a gem to me. I liked it on the album, but live it was waaaaaaaay better!! Also Romeo and Juliet was sung very emotionally.
Well, as i said: the older he gets.... (in German i would say: je oller, je doller  ;D )

The concert at the Stadthalle Bremen, my small review. We arrived in Bremen around 14.30, after a 2 hrs cruising the Autobahn. There was still plenty of space at the parking at that time. We noticex that there was a lot of police walking around at the Bremen Hauptbahnhof. Werder Bremen was playing at the Weserstadion against Eintracht Frankfurt. We spent the afternoon in the city center and alongside the Weser drinking a beer with a collegue of mine who was there also. We went to the Stadthalle around 19.15 and picked up our tickets. Well, a reserved seat has a big advantage: no need for queuing. Another advantage, you can pay more attention to the music and listen en enjoy more carefully and have a great view at the stage. When you're standing in a arena there's always someone in front of you who is a bit taller than you are... (In Dutch i call someone like that a 'hinderpilaar').

he was laughing sooooo much last night
also, marbletown in berlin was at least 2min longer; that was too long, and yesterday i thought, oh no;, there we go again, but then they cut it "short"
mark made a major greenie missing that important first note of the beginning of the main solo in TR, but still, i faaaar prefer his playing these days, making mistakes every now and then, but experimenting sooo much more.

@superval: yes he was so much slimmer, that really suits him  ;)
@pottel: yes especially the slow part was very long, but I knew, that a faster part will come. That made it so exciting for me, guessing when the faster part will come  ;) !

I was the only one at the 'picked meeting spot' called Maredo's at 16.30. :disbelief We had dinner there. A good German Wiener Schnitzel! :lol

You'll need to delete Bremen from your "shows to come" signature.

Done ;)

I need some help ... I recorded Marbletown, "only" 07:30 min, because my armes were trembling then and my camera`s accu was hot...the quality is not so very good, but sound is ok. I can upload it for the poor people who stayed at home  ;), so that they know, what we are talking about...But the movie-file (.mov) is almost 2 GB, and I have no idea how to make it smaller, Usually I don`t use the video-function of my camera...

But if someone has a better (or longer  ;) ) version, let`s take that one !

Just for the record, and in NO WAY it gives an impression of the live power, but here is a short clip, Sultans from Bremen (not from me)

Great indeed! Powerfull stuff! I love what happens to the drums/guitar at 7:07 :)
Indeed this is great.
Yesterday I was playing Instanbul concert in my living room (my favourite so far overall) and I surprised myself listening to SoS and thinking: "for once I cannot say that this song is only the shadow of what it used to be; it is so good that I don't even miss the keys and the sax for once; maybe not on par with Alchemy still, but really good to hear". Yeah, I think Ianto is pushing the band forward in a upbeat direction, as much as I loved Danny, this is really great.

Good night :wave ;)
I listened again to IDUAD on the RLRR DVD. I still prefer it to this new version because of Emmy's voice and the "duel" of guitars; this being said, this laid-back version is very nice to hear too (close to Tupelo).

Diamond for Tupelo today. :think  Both Diamond and Tupelo are "sleepers" in every sense of the word as far as I'm concerned.
So many top songs on that record.......really love it  :thumbsup :thumbsup

I love ATTR too !!!!!  Many beautiful songs !!!!  :) :thumbsup :clap

:wave

Fieneke
I'm starting to dreaming about "Rolling On" being played... one of my very favourites from this wonderful underrated album ! :)

IDUAD and "rolling on" are two of my most favorites from ATRR.  We must have similar taste in music.

Hmm, FHB next? ;D

FHB ? I can't stand it with all these acronyms... :hmm

Sorry Hill Farmer Blues. FHB doesn't make any sense, although it does in Internet Explorer 10 (autocorrection) and makes HFB into FHB (God knows what that means). I hate this kinda stuff... ;D

ah ok thanks  :)

you know, I went on Mknews, searching on all release to find which song it was  :smack ;D :lol
I am DAYS late with this question...  But is there a single source that has all DS and MK songs listed?  I have had to search out song names for acronyms several times, and have not yet found a single source.   :think

Anyone?   :D

Good question; we should integrate that into AMIT.

For the time being visit

Yes I do the same

the alphabetic songs list should exist somewhere, because some years ago I remember the famous "best live versions"-list, so I think that Pottel has it somewhere...
he would have to add Get Lucky and Pivateering songs, and we would have all  :)

I don't think so, but at least when you search the meaning of an acronym, if you have the entire song list by alphabetic order, you can quickly point the song out.

Many thanks to moat and Pyroaction!!!!  Great sources and I especially like the way Association Francophone Mark Knopfler list the songs (alpha, and with album, year).   :clap

And Pottel... yes...  Is there anything you can share, that can be incorporated into AMIT?  :D
