Seems the Straits are going to tour again - I couldn't care less about it... but what pisses me off is that I receive a newsletter from them? Can't remember ever clicking any Alan Clark/Straits/Crap/Site to get it... how can I get rid of it?
It's mail@straitsband.com
I wrote back to that address but I knew before that this wouldn't help. Any help appreciated. Is Terry Kilburn involved in this using the MKNews data?
I don't want to receive any fucking info from these dickheads.

Same here LE - both me and my husband are receiving these emails and neither of us have ever showed any interest in this band, or ever will! :disbelief
-
Same here, I got emails on a couple of e-mailadresses. I was at a concert once in Tilburg, both booked it at the local venue. So how the hell do they know my mailadresses? :disbelief
-
Isn't there a law that states any circular mail should have an "unsubscribe" link contained within it?
I haven't received any e-mail, but then I don't think I've even been on their web site!
-
I got the email from the Straits yesterday. I have no idea how my email ended up on the list. I don't mind it at all. In fact it prompted me to check out their website. :) Like I said, I will see them if they tour the US near where I am.
-
Also received this e-mail that I never subsribed for. Awful. And what is even more disrespectful. MK don
-
The website is a joke. They say they considered using "ex Dire Straits bass players" but decided to go for the best musicians instead. What a bunch of complete cocks.
-
As if John Illsley would even consider for one second to join them :disbelief

From my opinion, to use for promotion purposes e-mail adresses from MARK KNOPFLER fans that presumably have put their e-mail on any OFFICIAL MARK KNOPFLER website, and then, at the same time, fully neglect MARK KNOPFLER on their website as founder and writer of all songs they perform. This is not only disgraceful, it is just criminal, nothing else...
-
I am sure they didn't get the e-mail-addresses from an official mark knopfler website.
-
Well from my side, I am pretty sure, I have only put my e-mail to mk-news and markknopfler.com. Of course they will not have got it officially..., but isn

Are they looking on AMIT? My e-mail isn't visible and I haven't received any from them. They know we are all fans of the songs so... :think

Perhaps you could mark the message as junkmail, this will put their address on the blacklists.

Or perhaps you could sue them for all their worth! ;)

Not sure how you can be sure of this. Seems they could have been provided by "somebody" at MK news... Clear breach of the Data Protection Act 1998 if that is indeed the case.

Then they'll have to sell all the gold records "The Straits" have earned.
errr....wait...

Both myself and my husband are receiving them, but it's only me that's a member of AMIT and my email isn't visible, but we are both members of MK.com, which makes me think the email addresses have come from there or MKNews.

But how is it possible that I also receive it on my officemail? I never give that to website like mk.com, mknews or here.
I will write a mail to mk.com to ask. I can't imagine. They know the law I think, they are a professional organisation.
-
I would not emphasis only legal issue, but also the ethic side...
-
I have send an email to both Paul Crockford and markknopfler.com telling the story. As soon as I have an answer I will post it here.

Interesting. Did you ever use it to buy tickets on MK.com?

I think that ended up being a hoax.

PC answered me and I quote:
"This information does not come from either markknopfler.com or Mark-knopfler-news.co.uk"

No I didn't use my officeaddress to order tix. I told PC that in the past I had some conversation with TK and I might have used the office-mail-address once in a while.
He stated like posted before but I am absolutely not sure that it doesn't come from mknews. I am sure it doesn't come from markknopfler.com
Just the feeling I have with those 2 "organisations"
It also is possible that the addresses are collected for a long time from whatever source. I also have ideas about that.
