Title: Name the dog
Post by: Rollergirl on November 03, 2008, 01:24:52 PM
Hi folks, the forum is a bit quiet at the moment, so I'll try to revive it a bit. My old dog recently died ( :( ) and although a new one is not on the agenda yet (we want to take the time to miss this one), I know that we will eventually adopt another dog in a year or 2.
So, what should we call him/her that is MK related but not to obvious (not Mark, for example)?
Let your imagination flow, don't be afraid to be silly!

Off the top of my head, some initial thoughts for your new dog's name:

Danny: big cuddly dog like a labrador.
Glenn: tall lean dog like greyhound.
Matt: good name for dog but not sure of type - one that hides behind a large piece of furniture??
Guy: faithful, reliable dog like Golden Retriever
Emmy: classy female dog with long hair, possibly some top end type of collie.
Rudi(ger)
Croc: pugnacious little dog like terrier.
Coaly:black dog.

Must get back to work - more later!

Rudiger is my favourite so far, but then for some reason it's always been my dream to own a Daschund and call it Bismarck.

Matt: good name for dog but not sure of type - one that hides behind a large piece of furniture??

No, obviously Matt would be a very manly, heroic, handsome dog, eg beautiful German Shepherd or Labrador.  ;)

Sorry about your dog, Nat!  :(

You did say don't be afraid to be silly, so here's a very silly one:

Wag  (the dog)!   ;D

My choice would be Freuder, though.

Wag (the dog), excellent  ;D

I knew woosh (the giraf), the one that came to close to a helicopter....

Imelda (not sure if it's a good reference)
Nelly :D
More to come later (i'm at school)

Fender is a great idea! Search party's over girls and guys, we have a winner!

And it will go perfectly our our son's name! (Leo)

No, I was kidding, the search party isn't over, I want more ideas. See if you can beat that. And maybe Mr Rollergirl won't like it, (although he likes guitars too)

There's a gazillion names for that pooch!

Romeo
Elvis
Cal
Harry
Johnny
Billy
Sonny
Lonnie
Marlon
Mac
Tink
Jack
Vic (or Ray)
Belle - if you wish a female of the species
Maggie ditto
Kroc - spelled with a K.

I think Romeo Rollergirl would be a top choice.

Rollergirl, so sorry about your old dog. My Max has been gone since 1984, and I STILL wake up thinking he's in the room or is standing outside the door, waiting to be let in...and sometimes I am calling for him when I wake up. I should get a dog too. As far as names, Rudiger was what first came to mind, but that's been said...what about Les Paul? Then you'd have a first AND last name!  Or Sailor...or Mason...or Dixon?

Thanks guys, I'll just have to find this thread when the time for a new mutt has come!
Thanks Jackie, it is tough isn't it. I got him as a puppy, he was with me for one third of my life, came to Sweden with me.. aaaaa I miss him.

Actually, here's a good one for you all: My dog (or his name) features in one of MK songs. Name that song!
OK, I'll give you a clue if that's too difficult. Do you need a clue?

Dear Nat, I am sorry to hear that your dog died, even when it is an old dog, it is a part of the family!

I read already so many wonderful names, so it is hard to choose another name. When we need a name for a dog or cat it should be a name that is easy when you have to shout, like ....."Giiiiiiiiiiiibson" or "Maaaaaaax", in case he runs away or in the wrong direction!  ;D

The name also depends on what kind of dog and if it will be male or female! For example a small lady dog could have the name "Lily"! ..........  I'll try to come up with other tomorrow!

Btw Kitty was the name of our cat!  ;D

"Sultan"!  ;D   That sounds a very good name for a dog, especially a male German Shepherd perhaps.

Sorry about your doggie.  Our Chloe  is almost 14 and is still going strong.  The name obviously depends on the dog, but Geordie or Tyne might work. If he's nuts, Pyroman.   Love all the names suggested so far.

I knew a german shepherd called Sultan, maybe his owner was a DS fan...

thanks for all your ideas. Nobody wants to guess the name of my old dog, whose name features in a MK song?   :-\ oh well, never mind  ;D

Sorry to hear about your dog. I already saw all good new names so I can't think of another.
But give us a little tiny clue for the name of your old dog  ;) We can start to guess then!

Tyne, Geordie, Dubro, Pop  (after Kitty's first book), Illsley  (quite dignified really) Fletcher, Gold, Sailor (single handed),
Fame (my Claim to Fame/
I'll try to think of some more.
I'm truly sorry about your dear old friend.

Nasty Dug Up  (well of course it's an anagram).

Fieneke

No, we don't exactly but it will most probably be a medium sized dog, the rest (colour, shape, race (or not) is irrelevant.
It's not for now anyway, we won't get "Fletch" for a while yet.
