hi all,
as an admin over on Hungercity, until last week, it is my sad duty to inform you of the following:
right now the site is down, supposedly because not enough donations were made. this is hard for us, the staff to believe, therefore we all resigned.
below our general message to the outside world
HungerCity Staff
September 30, 2013
Friends
Hungercity has been a home for many and has always had a good reputation for its audio and video torrents. Many people have given their enthusiasm, their energy , their time, their donations, and their music.
It is therefore with great regret that the staff of Hungercity unanimously came to the conclusion that we can no longer tolerate the way things are handled by the site owner.
1. There is no transparency about the real costs of the site. No Staff members have any knowledge of how much is donated or the site's financial resources, gains, losses or conditions
2. People who have donated don't get credited by the site owner. Staff members have been left to handle these requests when individual users bring proof of donations to their attention.
3. Crucial knowledge about the site, such as usernames and passwords for access to PayPal data and domain servers are in the hand of just one person: the site owner.
4. The site is unstable and is frequently offline for extended periods. Good back-ups are not always available, so posts and threads are lost as a result.
The staff requested a contingency plan if the site owner was unable to perform his usual duties. Staff wanted to avoid the frequent site outages, maintain all backups to prevent loss of valued data, and remove any appearance of improper fund management. This request was denied, thwarting the Staff efforts to provide friendly management and smooth operation of the site.
So, we have decided to end our involvement with HungerCity.

Sad news. I wasn't a regular user of Hungercity, I only use Dime and Spanish City Tracker but it's sad to see any torrent site go because it's another potential source of bootlegs gone (from a selfish point of view).

Can't say I'm that surprised. Virtual teams are enough of a challenge. When you have a dictator in charge with no system of checks and balances that just makes it worse.

It is a pity, but you are right in your decision. Didn't know about that situation.
Unfortunately I never had the time to download the things I had spotted.

I was a user in the past and did greatly enjoy it.
Bad news, even if I was not active on it for some times.
