What do you think of the new sticks ? Blue is weird for a MK strat...But I'm sure I will buy one "sigh"

Don't know why they didn't "stick" with red. Did they run out of red paint? Maybe they should have made a nice Gibson LP or the National instead.

Oh dear thats a bit pants!!

Marketing ! Red , we almost all have at least one... Gibson or National would cost money to create... Blue.. they just change the paint and that's it !
White would have been better (to me) as MK use a white strat on this tour... Blue... is well... never mind I'll get one too !
-
Speaking of blue guitars, does anyone know if Mark still uses that beautiful pelham blue Les Paul?
Regarding the stick, marketing is probably it!
-
"Can't get no fancy notes on my blue guitar" . . .
Yeah, blue is odd, but I'll get one.

Surprised to read all those somehow negative responses to the new blue sticks. They are just sticks anyway, no real guitars... so my first reaction, when I saw the MK news mail at work this afternoon, was "hey, nice, good idea!" It is just funny that the chose another colour. A new guitar style would not have been so great for me because these are still Privateering shows. So now these blue are the "Privateering tour encore concert sticks". Maybe they will do les Pauls or Nationals at the next tour, that would be cool.
Really considering ordering one stick. Maybe I will wait for the concert reviews first, but the first show should be very good anyway.

Gonna have to order at least one of these unique Blue Strats but will wait until the set lists materialise.....
-
They can paint the sticks in whatever colour they want and I'm sure Mark has played a guitar in that colour ;)
But more important is the content of the sticks not their colour, let's hope the band is on fire.
Btw the blue guitar i posted was used on some stuff of the LOG Album, i suppose the picture is from that period. The fabulous Ingo has written something about it here : http://www.mk-guitar.com/2008/09/29/japanese-vintage-guitars-the-situation-in-the-late-70ies-early-80ies/ (http://www.mk-guitar.com/2008/09/29/japanese-vintage-guitars-the-situation-in-the-late-70ies-early-80ies/)

It's perhaps supposed to represent the new blue Pensa but they only have one design, hence the blue Strat design. ???

Yes, changing the shape would be far too expensive. I think the marketing guys don't think deelpy about it, but I love the blue Pensa. First i was irritated by the colour, but you can't get it out of your head. Its a very attractive one, isn't it?

That's a blue Fernandez with Seymour Duncan pickups. Mark used it around the time of Love over Gold, I think on Infidels (e.g. "I and I" ?) and Local Hero (e.g. "Smooching"??). John Suhr once told me that some of his favourite MK guitar sounds were played with that guitar.
(BTW, you will soon find an almost identical guitar (a "Blackie" ) in my MK guitar shop at http://mk-guitar.com/shop/)
Mark always liked blue guitars (the blue Schecter Dream Machine that Hal Lindes played on stage was also his), and I heard that he wanted his Fender signature Strat to be available in hot rod red and sonic blue (which Fender did not want for some reason).
Blue guitars are great, but I personally don't like the blue USB stick, the red one looks much more detailed and realistic, and simply better (just my 2c)

I prefer also the red one. i would love to have a National-guitar-usb stick, a pensa mk and a gibson one. ;D

Ah the Blue Pensa! I think straight away of the 2nd night at the RAH when the Blue Pensa came out in readiness for 'KOG' and boy did it look and sound the part. I'm a Strat man as you all know but boy that Pensa is something else.....Blue or Brown!!

SWEETSURRENDER, "can't get no fancy notes on my blue guitar" is from "One World" on BIA. "Can't get no antidote for blue ooh oohs."
-
I believe he also played a blue mex strat at the 2002 gigs.
Ingo was faster than me about the fernandes. ;)
I have this pic in a french magazine from around late 80ies

A similar Fernandes 57 vintage Strat is available in my online shop: http://mk-guitar.com/shop/fernandes-revival-japanese-vintage-strat-p-103.html. Don't miss a great chance to acquire an affordable true vintage guitar of great quality with a really sweet sound (listen to Smooching (?), Jokerman (?); I and I (?)...).
-
Ah yes smooching.....one of my top tones ! I love this tune, and this sound...gorgeous !
I always thought it was the red schecter....
same for for jokerman, and I don't know why but I and I was the sunburst schecter in my head....
so you think that it could be this fernandes ?
I can't remember if it can't be seen in the background of the studio during the Indidels sessions (video clips for example ) ? :think

Of course you can never be sure about which guitar was played on which track unless it is confirmed in some way.
Years ago John Suhr told me that he regularly was in the studio to service Mark's guitars when they recorded in New York (1982/83: Love over Gold, Local Hero, Infidels. The Fernandes can be seen on the picture with all guitars during LoG recording at the Power Station studio), and he told me that for him Mark got some of his nicest sounds on the Fernandes with Seymour Duncan pickups.
I think all the Japanese vintage Strats from the era sound extremely warm and have a different tone from e.g. the Schecters. And the songs mentioned sound rather "Japanese" to me but of course I can be wrong.
-
You can listen to the sound of the Fernandes in these two videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBW3dUGHAU8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPtFkylLtPU
It has a unique tone, a different kind of "sustain" (e.g. in the second video with all clear sounds) something I believe to hear in Jokerman and I & I, and such.
-
Wow, great sound!
-
great ! :thumbsup
gorgeous tone
I love the first one
-
Yeah, the nice distortion comes from the Hotcake (Mark will know why he uses this one...)
It does not cut treble/bass and boost mids like other overdrives, and might seem less creamy for this reason, but in fact it is great to add all kind of subtle distortion as the clean sound is not compromised. And when you turn up the gain, there is a lot of distortion, more than with a typical tube screamer.
-
Really really nice. I LOVE it !!!! :thumbsup :thumbsup :clap :clap :clap :clap
Almost sound like MK.
