Title: Sultans of Swing guitar sound - new theory
Post by: Ingo on October 05, 2013, 01:50:07 PM
A thread for the guitar players here...

I assume that Mark had a non-stock pickup - a rather hot DiMarzio - in the middle position of one of his red Fenders when he started with Dire Straits. This leads to a unique sound when played together with a Fender pickup at the bridge, and resolves the long time question "middle pickup or bridge & middle" e.g. on Sultans on the first album or on the Live at the BBC CD.

See this article for the details: http://www.mk-guitar.com/2013/09/30/new-theory-on-the-sultans-of-swing-sound-dimarzio-fs-1-pickup-in-the-middle-position/
