Good licks!!! :clap :clap :clap
-
"What's Broken," which features Marl Knopfler on guitar (streaming below). "That was a huge piece of generosity on Mark's part," says Crosby. "We sent him the song and he just fucking killed it. He did me a huge favor and we don't even know each other. He's just brilliant."
-
Good song, I like it.
-
:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Nice little solo.

Nice little solo.
Sure can tell right away it's Mark's sound. :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup
-
Woohoo!! Fantastic...
Very 'MK' indeed with a bit of Hank's influence yet again!!
-
"Features Marl Knopfler on guitar" LOL!
Strange to hear MK in tose "contemporary" rhythms. I think he just can't say "No", you can send to him your garage band recording and, if you can afford it, MK will record guitar for you :)

True... It is a bit strange how musicians collaborate these days.. Anyway, it sure comes some good music out of it, and I really like this song :)

Well, if your garage band includes some in the like of Dave Crosby, surelly it will be easier to get some MK guitar licks...

Beautiful! :thumbsup
-
and so mk connection to DG comes full circle again.
interesting.

interesting.
Um, whats the connection?
I always thought David Crosby was the luckiest guy on the planet. He was in two great bands and the least talented in both. :)
-
Because I guess David Crosby & also Graham Nash both sung with David Gilmour on the beautiful song 'On an Island' from the brilliant album of the same name. Also all sang at the RAH with DG too!!!

I don't recall ever singing at the RAH. :think Maybe in a dream (or rather it would be a nightmare for the audience)! ;D

Also some parts of that record from David Gilmour was recorded at British Grove Studios.

Ok. Fairly tenuous connection Pottel. :)

Can't find the file on soundcloud. Any link available?

Bit of Steely Dan IMHO ;)
Love MK's solo and tone throughout! He's getting better every time with anything he touches these days.....
-
Thank SL! I found the Crosby soundcloud channel but it looked empty. The one you have sent worked like a charm!
-
Sorry to bother you guys, but I don't have access to SoundCloud. Any clues on how to find it thru another soource?
Thanks

So I don't think you need to have acces to soundcloud to be able to listen to the track, but I might be wrong because I have a soundcloud account, so maybe I see the embedded player because of that... ? :think

That song is pretty awesome Imo.... made even better by the master Knopfler :)
-
On a side note, I'm pretty sure it was Crosby who picked MK's Brothers In Arms as one of his 'Tracks Of My Years' songs on the Radio 2 Ken Bruce show a few years back too..
Gotta love a tenuous link :P

Nice one, thanks :D

That link is just for the Desert Island Disc series and not The Tracks Of My years that I was talking about but thanks as there are some excellent choices on there. It's interesting to see all these picks and for what ever reasons they were chosen. This leads me onto something that I never knew. The Lynda La Plant one from 1994 has her choosing Brothers In Arms and she goes on to say that it was written by her very dear friend Mark Knopfler and that she was currently working on a musical with him. Wow, that obviously never happened but I wonder why and if any of you folks had any more info. A musical by Knopfler could have been pretty superb and I'd never heard a single thing about that.

Sorry Fordie Im an idiot for not reading your post properly. But I do remember reading an interview with Lynda all those years ago when she was massive with the Prime Suspect series and she said about writing a musical with MK.
-
Never knew that either, but then I'm not a fan of la Plante, Prime Suspect or musicals. Very interesting to know though because I didn't think it would be up MK's street. I take it that would be early-mid 90s, just prior to GH?

Yes I remember it being back then when you never heard anything about MK and I can remember feeling dissapointed reading it. I wanted a Dire Straits album not a bloody musical.

:lol
Yes, I'm actually glad I didn't hear it at the time!

Just real that David and Graham (Nash) also played on David's forthcoming album, when they played the RAH just now....a new gilmour record!!! Could mk possibly be on it?
-
It was mentioned in a few interviews around then - maybe the Record Collector one?
I remember MK saying something like "you have to be very careful with these things - there can't be a legwarmer in sight."
-

"Best part was seeing Knopfler and Gilmour playing together....
Watch this space as you may soon see them both playing together ..Mums the word now!!!"
Response from a You tube user to seeing an old French & Saunders video we have on AMIT TV. He may know something that we don't? ??? :o

Mark guesting on a Crosby record ok.
Mark guesting on a Gilmour album : what for?
-
No guesting, it would be a Knopfler/ Gilmour project. ;D
-
Or more to the point DG guesting on an MK album??!!
(No, not you DMG! - although anything is possible!)

I don't think that (the latter) would ever be possible! :lol

no time in your calendar?
-
Hey DMG how about the RAH in 2015 as a guest??!! ;D
at least that gives you a while to practice!

I could always lip synch or use auto tune! :think

Why not considering clapping? Or are your hands so out of tune? ;-)

With a name like mine I should be a natural performer on stage!
They could always put on the poster "with special guest David Gray!" It wouldn't be a lie.
-
Well folks, I bought tickets to see David Crosby (not David Gray... 8)) at the LA Troubadour in February. I will report back...
-
I'm bringin this topic back because I've listenend to the entire Croz album. Well, IMHO "What's broken" is the best thing David Crosby have done in the last 73 years. And "Croz being his best album ever, including the two CPR releases and much os CSN things.
I tend to agree with dustyvalentino when he posted that DC was the least talented member of both Byrds and CSN. Apart from some good things in the CSNY's "Deja vu" album and some passable songs in Byrds era. He's been living up with the acquired fame from the old sixties. I guess that a colaboration between MK and Stephen Stills, for instance, would be much more of a thrill. Not to mention that Young dude, the very best musician that came from all that buckett made of Byrds/Buffalo Springfield/CSNY/Poco and caterva players.
-
even if I am much found of stills, I like Crosby's almost cut my hair, guinevere, drive my car and his collaborations with Nash like the gorgeous To the Last Whale...
indeed Young is a genius, but Stills can bear the comparison imho

My report will have to wait until April. DC's LA concerts were postponed due to a medical procedure.

Stills first album is a masterpiece, equal to Young's Harvest, although quite different. It reveals the different influences each one of them brought to Buffalo Springfield and later CSN&Y. But unlike Young's steady 70ies output, Still's albums were unequal, some times good, but most of the times unfocused.
But Crosby collaborations with Nash had their high moments:
take the money and run, http://youtu.be/_LKC6qZiTDE
Carry me http://youtu.be/OcdSDMNx5Y8
And Crosby's LP:"if I could remember my name" reveals its power to the patient people.
Nash's "Songs for beginners" and "Wild tales" are solid good!

I love Manassas, a pure gem imho
And Still's work in CSN is very important
-
Yeap, Manassas is an example from the good ones (although II is suffering) And the competition within the groups made Stills a better writer. So I totally agree!
