There was a very nice idea - to vote next tour
-
I don't know. I would never have voted for cannibals on the last tour and yet, it was a great opener!
I'll have to think.

once upon a time...
i know i know,... but it will remain my favorite opener of all time.
and i am no dire straits only fanatic. the song is simply great.

A new song from the new album which just happens to have a 5 minute opening solo ;)
....I can dream....

yes it is difficult, but there is no simple voting of favourite or opening (etc) songs of MK...it is the main reason why it is so much fun... ;)
why not a dire straits song after all..not probable, but we can dream, why not...
he surprised us several times, maybe he will surprise us again...

Mmmmm...
For that tour, I said that 'We can get wild' would have been a great opener, IMO... So, let's say it again this time...
'Silvertown blues' would be more than great, but it will never happen...
I used to like 'Darling pretty' very much too, but it seems that song, too, belongs to the past...
As it is a 'MK' tour, I won't propose a DS song, even if we could find some that would suit to any tour, of course...

Hill's Farmer's Blues would be my vote !!
-
It will be something that starts off fairly quiet - has a long intro (enough time for the band to settle before he walks on) and still enough time for the audience to cheer him before he starts singing. That is the format of recent years tours.
It must have a lively beat - fairly high tempo - and one the audience can stamp their feet/clap to.
That must rule out a fair few :)
It therefore couldn't ever be SOS or anything of that ilk i.e. BIA or R&J as he would have to be there right from the start. It therefore has to be a middle of the road (as far as MK is concerned) song.
I think it will not be a DS song - as the audience will be there to see 'Mark Knopfler' - the DS songs are 'incidentals' to the set - yes they must be there, but they are not the main reason he has assembled the tour.
So - to my guess at the opening song? I have no idea but... Punish the Monkey sounds a great one. It fits the above criteria so I cannot argue against it. Nice one. It is similar to Ride Across The River (it would have fit the criteria too) but that's DS so will not happen :)

ABSOLUTELLY agree with you, Simon!!
Yes, it must be fast song. It will not be DS song. The opener won

I don't know why, but reading this post the song "Je suis Desol
-
As much as I would like to hear Je Suis Desole (and bring Sonny Liston too please) :) I think something more up beat in message to open with. How about True Love will Never Fade?
-
TLWNF is too slow and soft for opener I think...
-
I think that beachcombing with a few tweeks here & there would be a great opener - Emmy Lou's contribution could be covered by Guy??
or maybe Boom like that would be a lively intro ???
