I'm not sure if this has been posted before but, if so, I'm sorry but I'm sure you'd rather read about it twice than not at all.
The programme is called "Discovering Dire Straits". It is a new but only half-an-hour long and it seems to be music journos discussing DS, presumably with clips. It starts at 8.30 p.m. and will be followed by "MK Plays Avo" and then "Guitar Stories - MK".
This sequence of programmes will be repeated several times on the same channel over the coming days. The start times of these repeats are:
> 1.15 a.m. on Sunday, 16 March;
> 8.00 a.m. on Sunday, 16 March;
> 7.00 p.m. on Tuesday, 18 March;
> 12 noon on Wednesday, 19 March (but with the programmes in a slightly different order, the new one being on at 2.00 p.m.)
Unfortunately, I can't get the relevant Sky Arts 1 webpage about the programme to load but some of you may care to try and, if successful, to post it here.

nice find TWM, I've not seen it before. Here's a little more info I found.
Music journalists Camilla Pia, John Aizlewood, Will Hodgkinson, Michael Bonner and Hamish MacBain examine the history of the rock band and reflect on their success

Thanks twm, this looks good. Another one for the increasingly full Sky HD! ;D

It wasn't bad and it was great seeing contemporary critics chatting about DS. The only annoying things are as always the factually incorrect statements but all in all it was an interesting watch.
-
Pretty much sums up my feelings too Fordie. It was about exactly what I was expecting but I always like to see/hear new music and/or have a live performance.

Thanks for sharing! For those who can not watch Sky HD like me: http://torrentz.to/BSkyB_Discovering_Dire_Straits_PDTV_x264_AAC_-download-torrent-90558D375789705C4989C457B2D28171EB363C54.php

Mrs twm and I, having been tied up with family activities over the weekend, have now watched "Discovering Dire Straits" and, frankly, the programme was just plain dreadful. Even I, not a committed DS fan, could spot its many factual errors. OK, maybe for some readers here, it is suffcient that such a programme was put together at all but, for me, it was an empty experience. Definitely not recommended.

This one should be called 'Discovering Dire Straits' Wikipedia Article'.

Have to agree with twm. A total waste of time. Apart from errors (this John Aiselwood or whatever has it all wrong and the others just gave top of their heads opinions-not wrong, but actually either harmless facts or plain personal views) it offered nothing new to attract the old fan and what's more I really don't get why spotlighting Local hero, Private dancer and the Dylan connections (and what they said had more to do with Dylan than Knopfler), which were MK solo things, thus wasting time from presenting Dire straits. This lack of focus in such a short program, cost several minutes and we had no live albums, live aid, Mandela or Knebworth references, etc. The only interesting thing I was reminded of, was how DS created these three videos for MM (and issued them on VHS) targeting Mtv. Of course these videos were, hmmmmm, a product of the day and they haven't dated well, (apart from Skateaway, which is quite fitting). A lost opportunity.

By the way, Thank you Allen for the link and whoever put that up for us!

yup, upon thinking about the show again......... it was dreadful lol. The SOS reference was a particular quote of nonsense.
-
By the way SOS was written in Deptford, not Ipswich, as Wikipedia says.

thanks for the link, Allen. You are always there with the right information. I haven't downloaded yet, since I just saw the link this morning, but I will, even though the reviews are not good. Still want to watch everything! You know how it is with us. :)
