I like his story. The personnal touches, how he gave his collection to the organization for the perservation of music, but still "steals" some rare records from the shipments sounds so familiar to me! When I started listening and buying music in the mid 80ies, I wanted to have my hands on everything. I took advantage of the people's craze to replace their vinyl collections with CDs, and until 2000 I found records for 50-100 drachmas (0.15-0.30 cents) many times. Usually the records at that prices were in VG condition or/and multi platinum sellers, but nevertheless essential for any record collection and music lover. It seems that I did not consider the vast ammounts of records issued, the money it would take to buy even the essentials and most importantly the time I need to have to listen (and enjoy) them. It is hard to keep a big collection, and if you have other things to do, other interests, a family and a demanding schedule, together with growing older and seeing eye to eye with things you never thought they would bother you, you have to give up your collecting habbits, or at least limit them. I used to follow many bands and their releases. Now I only do it for MK and a couple more groups and even them I don't go for the extra rare (and expensive) world releases.
