Anyway, very nice I think.

He should do more acoustic stuff. Sailing sounds lovely like this.
-
ive never seen that so thanks for posting. I really enjoyed it.
-
Thank you! It was really great. I could have listened for ever! :)
-
Thanks for the link. This is so cool. Only the acoustic - a real gem...
-
I've never seen that ! thanks for posting, great.
-
stripped back like that really shows what a remarkable talent Knopfler really is... incredible songwriter and guitarist. A good song should always sound ace with just a guitar. It's tough to do.
-
This was new to me. Thanks for posting. So good to see MK so close up and relaxed.

Loved it! Bonaparte was somehow great with some little variations. And again the great chemistry between him and this sexy Lady which name I forgot... loved the Kennedy "incident"... Who where the other two people on the sofa?
LE
-
I loved the parts in Bonaparte when he filled in the spaces with humming and bom, bom, bom ! :lol
LE - The lady is Mariella Frostrup. :)
-
Oh yes, Val, thanks!
Is this taken from Dusty's work (from the other thread) or is it pure coincidence that it was uploaded just today?

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is. I'm glad to have this part, because I already had the rest. Anyway, thanks Dusty, if it's from you initially! :)

Really interesting!!
Who knows if the new album will have another wonderful "book song"....
(by the way, look at this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beryl-Modern-Plays-Maxine-Peake/dp/1472596102/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1420921161&sr=1-1&keywords=beryl (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beryl-Modern-Plays-Maxine-Peake/dp/1472596102/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1420921161&sr=1-1&keywords=beryl))

Would be a pretty amazing coincidence!

Oh no, K-alberto... this would also be good material for the song... :hmm

Love the acoustic version of song for Sonny. Actually love them all. :thumbsup

Funnily enough, at 9:46 you can see Alan Clark in the back (and at 10:14 again).
Pity it's only the author's name on the cover of a book.
I guess that's as close as you'd see Alan Clark and MK
in the same room :-\

LOL! I suspect it's Alan Clark, the politician! ;)

This was wonderful -- thanks for sharing!!
And yes, Mark is very relaxed. This setting seems to be a great fit for him. :clap
-
Thanks for the link!
Well, he's one of the very few who can play songs originally arranged for electric instruments on an acoustic guitar and still keep it equally interesting. Just listening to his touch and melodic rythm is wonderful. For some reason there has been so many remakes of songs on acoustic guitars which people seem to go crazy about, and the result is almost always less interesting IMHO. But Mark surely pulls it off :)
-
If he would ever do a tour without the band (and even without Guy) and sit on the stage with three or four guitars, I would go!
LE
-
Absolutely!
...but I hope he keeps his band for a long time ;)
-
It's funny people are saying he looks "relaxed", he looks like a fish out of water to me, especially with his need to talk and explain stuff during the songs. His missing the band talk during Bonaparte is quite telling, I get the impression he does not enjoy these mini performances. Although I agree with everyone, Mark sounds great doing these solo, the playing is superb, I wish he was relaxed enough to do this sort of thing.

Yes, he never looks relaxed playing acoustic; he isn't comfortable enough with his singing.

Agree, the Privateering presskit is a good example of that. I must say he looks a bit more relaxed in the life in songs docu, where he plays Romeo (yeah you can go now Pottel ;D). In general he doesn't like to have a camera pointed on him and someone behind the thing who says: Play something!

The Fish out of water picture is very strong and fits perfectly.

I just watched the dvd, very nice one Dusty, thank you very much, I enjoyed it a lot, specially Mariella Frostrup, she has something that catchs you, that voice, that smile, the way she talks... hypnotic!

I loved it, but have to agree that MK didn't look very comfortable, especially when talking about the books, etc. Just look at his hands, for example - I think they show just how uncomfortable he felt. He seemed much more comfortable when playing, though and sounded wonderful! :)
-
Yes after all those years standing in the frontlight, it is really strange and somehow sweet that he still has this nervous or humble "attacks". Makes him very human in a way

I think he's probably more comfortable playing in front of thousands of people rather than in a more intimate setting. I have heard this said from other performers, not just musicians. He seems fine to me in concert, for example! :)
-
Yes I was about to point to that, too. Will be interesting for me to see him at a kick-off Show for the first time in Dublin related to that.

I've watched this show a few times but until now I never spotted Kitty but she's in the audience as well (at 8:30). I think she was interviewed by Mariella Frostrup a few years before this show.

Recently I was watching Mark's Hay on Wye Interview and there's was Kitty and his daughter in the audience. And I was like — awwwwwww!

I was there and Kitty signed her book for me! I was so busy reading what she had written that I didn't notice I had bumped into MK! :o

" ...I didn't notice I had bumped into MK!" Thanks Val.... I just loved reading this!
And thanks TheTimeWasWrong for resurrecting this -- it was nice to watch this interview again.
