Joint MK fans have decided that there will be a limited amount of applauses on the coming tour.

Applauses after each song, spontaneous cheers and callings for extra songs will only be limited to Germany.

For the rest of the tour, applauses will only be given after SOS is played. In Scandinavia, only one select member of the crowd will be allowed to give applauses. This is restricted to outdoor shows only.

And oh, if MK and the band are in the mood they might opt for the Deluxe Supportive Pack. If the setlist contains at least six crowd requests the crowd will not only cheer throughout the show but they will be stomping the ground and rolling the Mexican wave as well. The Deluxe Supportive Pack is however limited to a maximum of 5 shows per tour and year.

LE

100% agree with LE

"Time in the sun" and "Your perfect song" for Get Lucky and Privateering were already extra bonus son in exclusive for Germany in 2009 and 2012, so this is not new at all. At least we can have this extra song in phisycal format instead of an mp3... although we are going to need a German helping hand for this...

That's just stupid. Why release a song in only one country..? It makes no sense at all and it stimulates piracy, because people refuse to buy the same album twice for only one song. And I am not saying I encourage it, I do not at all. I don't understand it at all. Really strange decisions, because people will get to hear the song anyway.

Regular Germans and rest of the world fans won't know that there is a difference, and will buy the cd anyway, is just us, die hard fans, who know about it, and cares...

Maybe is a way to avoid German buying imports, offering the chance of buying the same cd but with one more song that only Germany edition has.

When STP in the USA had "Do America" instead "One More Matinee", Universal UK decided to release, just for the UK, the two songs in the cd, having three editions, the most complete only for the UK, with "Do America" only for the USA, and "One More Matinee" for all over the world editions, except USA...

Marketing things... Getting our money for nothing.

Whis is why I will not have any Tracker CD at all. I don't need to buy 4 versions to get it all. At least they put bonuses of Deluxe Edition on 1CD!
I'm going to buy some hi-rez version in alac, if they will put it out (and I think they will do), and the rest I'll get with the magic of the internet! :wave

With the Tracker box it's the same like with the Get Lucky box and the Privateering box, so we should know it by now.

I really don't see the point in all the bonus tracks. There are room for three or four more songs on the "normal" CD, so if the songs are good enough for release, why don't put them there? If you think that an album is meant to be an album, where the songs are put together for a reason, are these bonus songs a part of the story? I get a feeling that something is unfinished with all these extra tracks here and there. I would rather that Mark decided which songs should be released, and that he made a complete album out of these songs. If there were a lot of tracks left, I think it would be better to release them later, in another setting, and not in addition to the normal release. It is just confusing. What is the track list for Tracker?

Another part of the story is that gems like 'River Of Grog' would be almost digged in obscurity just because it's a bonus track!

I think that the whole thing has been discussed many times. Yet, the points made can all be summarized to this: Since the physical object (CD or Vinyl) are  declining in sales, the record companies seek ways to make fans buy the same product multiple times.
Having said that, the same companies never paid the artists well enough for the sales and always treated their customers like wallets and never as lovers of music. So it is peculiar that only a few well known artists (Radiohead, Thom Yorke, Darren Hayman etc)  prefer to break the bonds with the big companies, offering a special super deluxe edition for the fans and a "normal" issue for the rest. The rest of the artists just follow the companies' strategies. 4 or 5 different editions with extras in each and every one, clearly targeting the fans.

Usually the extra songs were used for the deluxe edition (usually issued as anniversary edition) , the B side of singles or in some cases EPs between albums. MK has not issued commercial physical singles for his Privateering and Get Lucky

The Hot Dog Deluxe version on saturn.de is cheaper than the normal Deluxe Edition with 15 tracks. With 2 Euro shipping I pay the same for Hot Dog included than on Amazon without.

Btw Hot Dog must be in the Top 3 of the silliest song names MK has ever released. I bet the song is crap.  ;)

Not too sure about the theory of making the fans buy the same Album multiple times, vgonis. I guess it is more like a wider product variation nowadays to get more people's attention really. They know how easy you can get a track for free on the internet. I agree however that the biggest and most expensive thing should have all songs in it.  Plus the big retailers have the power to say give us something special or we won't offer your product at all. So they get a little song here and there. Most of the time not the best ones.. yes I know Early Bird is great.

 :disbelief :disbelief

Is there anyone around here really considering to buy the 16-track-Deluxe-Box honestly or is it just another nice opportunity to bash the Deutschen? Who is thinking I get it from friends or illegal or via internet somewhere else anyway?  I think it is not the best way to utter such nonsense as the crap that has been written here already and at the same time hope for any "German friends" to help out...

For heaven's sake, this tour has around 55 dates, and Germany has always had 10 or 11 or 12 shows from the very beginning since the earliest Dire Straits days.. so there is nothing unusual here. The most surprising thing for me is that I really take a piss about it and try to explain it here - you know, some of the folks assembled at this thread will NEVER stop to moan and lament -  for example the view of another 16th track, another new MK song has not brought up ANY happy post, only lamenting....

Well done!

This time Mark really does 1 or 2 gigs too much here in Germany as the ticket sales are not that good as
in the past years.
But normally he plays here 11 gigs to 8500 fans each. So 100.000 in whole Germany. So why not play a lot here???

He also plays 4 norwegian concerts.
4 gigs 5 mio people
12 gigs 80 mio people

everythings okay I think
anyway. ticket sales suffer a bit here. Maybe when Tracker is out...

Bravo Steinei for your kind gesture! As I mentioned before  I believe that the CDs will eventually pop up on ebay, discogs and various sites, that ship worldwide. Such special versions rarely are decisions straight from the artist, so no reason blaming MK, the Germans or the universe conspiring against everybody else. I would say there are many reasons for such releases.  For example, if there was motive enough, other countries would issue similar special editions. Let's not forget that profits from record sales are down to almost zero for most artists. They make a living from live shows. (my radio plays cannibals! coincidence!)

Universal does a little trick for some years now, issuing special editions in many country of the world (that estimates that would boost the sales). So  collectors from all over the world will have to buy dozens times a CD with minor differences but almost always no extra or hard to find tracks.

Now, now, holaknopfler, don't hide either your grass or cheese. We want them both. We will imagine you are whatever you want and probably we will see tulips, roses and all flora when we get stoned. And certainly we will become  friends, but I fear we won't even care about our common passion.

@foma. The Rolling stones do this voting thing for many years. Greece had voted for "She's a rainbow" and they obliged!
And Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, Scorpions  and many pop artists have released special editions for Greece with the songs that had become hits in Greece. Beatles did that first, in the late 70ies,  by issuing different compilations for USA and UK.
