Skydiver chorus part is so funny ;D
-
Mark praises Ruth Moody so much as if she's a new Maria Callas or something.
-
Interesting stuff indeed.

pretty funny that he almost doesn't know how to play Beryl :D
He almost forgot how to play Lights of Taormina, also Beryl?
-
And he also forgot the line in Skydiver, too. But at least he played Beryl not in the original key (and not in the original position related to capo).

Well, I think he was attempting to play along with the record note for note on Taormina which would be nigh on impossible. Don't know what happened with Beryl though! Surprised they didn't do a 2nd take on that.

I guess that's just a chords position permutation.
Because of all those capo and key variations, combined with having to place it "into" Sultans feel - key, and trying (probably) to avoid messing with capos just for that film, no wonder he got slightly confused there.
I think that he's just way to over his ego or things like that, to have second take.

To be precise, he played here Beryl in sultanish D Minor as opposed to E Minor position in original Beryl (G Minor with capo). Nothing wrong here, just a little confusion, and to be honest this was great. Mark just tries to remind to you that he is just human, he also have a dirty nail on his right hand actually for same reason :lol

When he talks about River Towns, right after he says there's always the danger of me writing a character song, what is he calling the young man? Mate? And the boat a "Top Boat" or what? Don't understand that. Help please, because it's my favourite!

Hi LE! The young man was a mate on a tug-boat. A "mate" is the captain's assistant! Usually called a first officer. ;)
-
Thanks Val! Helps a lot!
I tried to understand "tug-boat" from Mark, but, by the way, it seems something changed with his teeth (lower jaw) ;D ;D
something else detected that? He also made some strange nose noises during speaking (first minutes, when I have something to reCHord)..
Sorry to be so indiscreet about good old Mark, it is just that he seemed not too well (red eyes) during this little interview film..
talking about physical infirmities...
Did anyone hear that LaughSH and JokeSH and DrinkSH and SmokeSH ssshh-sounding noises during the background vocals, not from Mark but frome someone in the band, nearly giving it a kind of "drunk" feel? On purpose?
LE

Do you mean on the album? Yes, there is a strange hissing noise, if that's what you meant!
-
Yes on the album version. Sorry for being unspecific.. It is not important at all but I heard it immediately from the first listen and wondered since then.

What's funny is that in this Track by Track interview are only six tracks! Seems like album Trucker as one man called it is smaller than I thought. At least he could talk about each of 11 tracks even without acoustic snippets (especially miming himself in Taormina, what was that about?). I thought it would be as cool as RPD track by track interview CD, where he talked actually about TRACK by TRACK, not about some of them.

I agree. Also it is somewhat strange to say the least to get in a more or less famous director to shoot a "short" film - which looks like the trailer, until you realize, hey, oh, that's the.. movie! So much great material that is probably left out. Pffft...
