Are people still listening to the album now after a few weeks? I have to say I haven't listened to it in the last weeks at all and don't miss it either.

Yes, of course! It's a beautiful album that keeps getting better! :)
-
After probably two weeks, three days ago I put it in my cd player while cleaning the house, and it was nice to listen to it again, but it proved that this record is not going to leave any mark on me, except for some songs like "Silver Eagle" that sounds to me as a wonderful song. The rest are good, but most of them will be filed in my memory with songs like "Vic and Ray", "El Macho" etc etc, minor works.
-
Not really. About a week ago I put a selected playlist of about 4 or 5 tracks on on my computer (with headphones). The lack of guitar and simple, uninteresting lyrics (in general) have meant there is less in the album for me to enjoy and discover. Therefore, where the album was enjoyable to begin with most of the songs become tiresome upon every listen. Usually it is the opposite with his songs. You can't sustain an album on lyrics like these and no one will buy a Knopfler album for his vocal - he keeps telling us what a rotten singer he is.

MK's voice is one of the reasons I'm enjoying Tracker so much. The lack of guitar solos is unimportant to me! ;)
-
Of course, still listening!
-
Everyday, for me it's a masterpiece.
-
yes but started to skip , skydiver , mighty man ,
-
Still listen and enjoy the album. But there is a few skippers for me in the middle of the album :)
Like Marks voice and there is many classic MK-guitar licks too I think.
The days with long guitar solos on his albums seems to be over.
Sometimes I miss that part too, so I'm glad that I have so many cd's with that element of MK stuff.
And I'm looking forward to hear him live soon. I'm happy that he always play some fantastic solos live 8)
-
I still do it and I still enjoy it as any other albums I have from MK!! Never get tired or bored and never will be!! :wave
-
every day.
only one skipper, or two.
mighty man and song 2. forgot the name.
-
Are people still listening to the album now after a few weeks?
Every blessed day.
It calms me down and infuses with hope of that things are not as bad, as it looks.
-
I listen to Basil and TTOT in INR mode. ;D
Also Beryl approx once per week.
-
Must be the strangest question I've heard in a while. These past weeks (and the following 52 or so) will be hard times for any OTHER music, since I'm just too busy listening to Tracker (and it' outtakes). And as always with MK's albums, I enjoy the songs more with every listen, not less. As far as I'm concerned, they're here to stay. I wouldn't want to miss one of them, including the ones I'm not totally satisfied with.
-
I listen to Tracker most days. I think its a superb album and im pleased there are relatively few if any guitar solos on it!!
-
Listening to it just about every day. The last MK album I listened to this much was Shangri-La. No skippers for me really, Mighty Man was at first but is growing on me. I do skip Long Cool Girl sometimes.
I particularly enjoy the 3 song stretch of Basil-River Towns-Skydiver.
-
I'm listening everyday to Tracker. The only skipper for me is Mighty Man, just after the intro. To me it is a versatile collection of songs. Simple lyrics switch to words with deeper meaning. Sure, there could be more guitar work. But, to me, it is something of a 5* menu. The quantities/courses may be tiny, but that keeps you anticipating every note to cherish...
-
Every evening after work on the way back home. Mighty Man is often skipped.
-
Couple of weeks without Tracker now. Just because I hugely over-over-over-listened it right from 10th of March.
But my Deluxe Box is on its way, so I believe I'll get more weeks of listening for it very soon. I miss Chuck Ainlay.
-
Still can't stop listening to all of it and also playing along to it on the guitar either.....
It most certainly gets better and better..... espeically as it has a few more guitar licks in it than the last few albums albeit very sparse licks!!
-
After about a week of repeated listening a month ago, i've stopped listening to it. Just a tad bit too mellow for me. Still loveeee Mark's voice though :)
-
I listen to it every day. I have the CD in my car, and I get a little frustrated that my drive to work is too short for any real listening. ::)
So I go for long runs so I can hear it in its entirety. ;)
-
Listening to it on the bus and train. And still surprised by a few tracks and skip a few others.
-
Not much to be honest, my favourite is still easily Get Lucky.
-

Wow, I listened Get Lucky in its entirety yesterday, and also thought that it's my favourite album.
Anybody knows why we listen Tracker not-so-much these days? Even the box won't restore my love for it :think
-
Before Gas and TV is sublime, all his other celtic stuff pales into insignificance for me.
-
I find myself listening to other music than Tracker now. It has had it's first run. Don't wanna overplay it.
Now begins the phase where I want to be pleasantly surprised by the live versions. Get them on one stick or two to hear them all over again. And then eventually I'll return to the album again listening to those who were left out from the tour.
Lastly, there will be skippers and those which are added to my personal MK favourites playlist.
Every album has it's own life cycle. The best ones cling on and the other will be there whenever they are needed :)

Very true. The live versions are, mostly, the best versions anyway and I seldom listen to any of the albums.
-
I will reiterate - the Emperor's New Clothes. :-) Thats what it is to me. :-[ I have wonderd for a few years is this the beginning of the end? (rhetorical question). It's hard to try and like something for the sake of it. It just doesnt do it for me - I just don't get it. I am of the opinion that the lyrics belong in a poetry book.

Only live versions for me too ! Is there such a thing like a bad version of a live version :hmm.
-
I have Tracker in my car. I play it every (work) day while driving since the release. I still love it!
-

You will be up and dancing when OP is played I'm sure!!!
-
I hope so much that he will play it.But I don't think that it will happen. Hoping for tort too
-
No, because in the meantime, I think it is rather "thin" and boring in the second half. I listen to three or four tracks once a week or so, though. Track 1, 3, 3 again most of the time, 5 and 6. And sometimes I think the real quiet gems, Heart Of Oak and Time Will End All Sorrow, are the best tracks on it.
But that's just me, probably caused by too much listening during the first two or three weeks. Also I have very little spare time at the moment.
I find myself falling asleep when I try to listen to it. Not too bad for a person with very light sleep! Thanks Mark at least for that!! ;D

I listen to it now and then. Not all the time, like some of the people on AMIT do. There is so much wonderful music out there still to be discovered. It would be insane to stick to music you already have heard more then 10 times. Life is to short. The past few days I am going for example through the catalog of Howlin' Wolf and Derek Trucks.
Howlin' Wolf - Three Hundred Pounds Of Joy

And for the people who love heavenly guitarsolos:
Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi - Midnight In Harlem LIVE

Yes, I still listen to it a lot. In my opinion MK is finally back after two really dull albums. Great guitar on this one too, best since Shangri-La. Faves are Laughs, Basil, River towns, Long cool girl, Silver Eagle, Wherever I go and My Heart has never Changed.
-
It's in my car CD still and I listen sometimes on the way to work and back if i'm not listening to Radio 2; and at work I listen if I want something different to the radio. I listen to River Towns and Skydiver a lot. The song i've listened to the least is Broken Bones. Laughs and Jokes is probably my favourite opening song Mark's done..
-
still loving it.
taormina, broken bones, long cool girl, ponies, 38 special, tribute, laughs, beryl
not: basil, mighty man
-
yes. on the way to work.
but already with a lot of skippers.
Best: Laughs and jokes, Basil, Beryl, Terminal, Silver Eagle
My little daughter loves Skydiver, she is always singing along. Very cute
Taormina is 50-50 a skipper. sometimes I like it, sometimes I skip.
I always skip River Towns, Broken Bones, Mighty Man,Time will End, My Heart...
Tracker is the best sounding MK album ever. Very good in the mix are bass, drums and of course MK's voice and Guitar.
It is better than Privateering and Crimson. But all other are better. So...
I am very excited which songs they will play on tour.
-
OK, now I begin to listen to the 18 tracks on the way to work and on the way back home every day. And Mighty Man can also be enjoyed when I'm down.
-
So reading the last number of posts it seems a lot of people are merely using the album to listen to "in the car" and/or "while travelling to work." Is this really the making of a cracking album? :think
-
Lack of time I guess. Of course a finely produced album loses much of its strength when heard on the road. On the other hand, it may be a very good test to see if it is the songs or the production...

Lack of time. And those 18 tracks fit the time I spent travelling to work. Also, I play the album at home for family lunch at weekends.

Oh my gosh, dmg! :smack
Tracker is not relegated to 2nd class album status for me!! It plays in the honored spot (in my car, or on my runs), where I have time to myself. 8)

I don't listen in the car, but Tracker gets my undivided attention, in the evening, when I can relax and listen to the album in it's entirety! Absolute bliss! :)

If that's when people have time to listen, then yes. I almost never get to listen to music at home, always in the car or while running/walking. I don't think you can judge an album based on when/where people listen to it.
-
I am almost never at home so have to listen in the car
-
Yeah, funny it is - I also use to listen in the car. It is just because it is practical. Outside a car is the another world my god! "Ain't to many places left to run"- you know what I mean-it's not as like as in baloney again but is about.
Yeah I'm listening daily on my way to the work and back home. I just have no time for another music. When I get fill of tracker I will take the next round of all of Mark music from the 1978... And then I think I would be feeling "I can't wait when I'll get to Tracker again"! I used to like different other musics few years ago but now It is DS and Mark. I can't say how long would late but it is great for now...
I saw Sorry River Towns is not popular for many but for me (at least at this moment) is one of the best of the Album...
Also I like Smokes, Basil and Beryl more than the others.
Regards.
-
I don't listen to Tracker on the way to work for the simple reason, that I work just a stone's throw from my home, literally next door :)

For me, River Towns is in the top four (with Mighty Man, LCG and Basil). But I really love them all!!!! ;D
-
River Town is my favorite in this album. It reminded me of another song from which album and song. I couldn't recall. Can someone help?

-
Which edition do you have? Mighty Oak is not on one of mine... :hmm :hmm ;D ;D
LE
-
mmm, that special one.....you know??
-
ok ok...
was just kidding..
you mean HEART of Oak of course..
LE
-
nono, i got that super limited edition LE! :-)
-
I tend to listen to Tracker when I'm at home, and most of the time the music is in the background, and it's played as a whole record. I rarely play the songs apart from each other. I agree with Pottel about the bonus songs, they get the most playtime in the holaknopfler house ;) Still my opinion hasn't changed that much, it's a great record.
-
Hardly ever. For me it's MK's most forgetable album.
-
I think Tracker is a like a big luxurious Mercedes. Mark is so good at what he does now that he can make that refinement seem boring, no raw edges. But I don't believe that. I play Tracker from one end to the other, and I'm always discovering new things I haven't heard before. It's an incredible piece of work.
-
Every day in the car. At work I listen to Mark all day every day on Youtube. Once in a while, when I am sitting back in my recliner in my den, I shut the doors, put on Tracker, close my eyes and listen. The rest of the time, I just go about my day singing all the songs from memory. I always wake up and before I hit the shower, a random Tracker song comes flowing out of my mouth. Lately, it's been OP, River Towns, Broken Bones.... Two weeks ago it was Long Cool Girl, Lights of Taormina and Silver Eagle (which I have come to love). Before that of course, it was Beryl and Wherever I Go. Next week, who knows? :D

I fell in love with this song !
thanks Guitarman for pointing it out :thumbsup
I listen to it several times per day, it's indeed like being in heaven, and it gives me serenity during hard times in life...
ther are many great live versions but the studio version has the advantage to get both rhythm and slide guitar parts :

There is something that always affect me when listening to MK albums, and it´s if MK is playing songs from it in his new tour.
And well, he is, 5 songs are or were in the set, Broken Bones, Skydiver, Laughs..., Mighty Man and Wherever I Go were on the set, some of them still are, so it kind of makes me appreciate more the record and go back to listen to it, and even like it more, specially songs that are NOT in the live set, like Basil, Silver Eagle etc
-
Although the Live downloads are awesome I am in the process of re-visiting the album and loving it even more - if that's possible??!!! :wave

JF, wonderful to hear I made a positive effect / joyful experience in someone's life. Win-win situation. You happy with a song and I happy with making someone happy. :D
-
I listen to Tracker all the time since he's only playing 1 out of my personal Top 5 live. :disbelief
