I got puzzle over something for a while.
There are several well-know audio bootlegs for Werchter. They vary in number of songs and order, but they more or less come from the same source. Most complete seems to be this one: http://oneverybootleg.nl/nolights.htm
None of them features "Portobello Belle" nor "Where do you think you are going", even if according to setlist.fm these songs were indeed played.
None of them... except this one: http://oneverybootleg.nl/belgium81.htm
The comment states: "Sound is taken from a TV-broadcast. The sound is less good than the other bootlegs of this concert."
But the one and only TV Broadcast that can be found on OEB or on YT is this: http://oneverybootleg.nl/050781_dvd.htm
It only features a couple of songs, and certainly not the above mentionned two song.
So the question is: what the hell is this TV broadcast ?? does a copy exist somewhere ? if yes, this would be the *one and only* available video version of Portobello Belle, and the *one and only" OL tour version of WDYTYRG (which is indeed very valuable with keyboards and additional guitar solos).
I would kill to get this mysterious broadcast ! the complete Werchter concert on DVD ? That would be great !
Please somebody enlights me...

Maybe Jeroen can enlighten us

I wish I could give a proper answer to this question. I once got this recording in a trade, long time ago with this additional info. I never have seen a TV broadcast of Werchter though featuring these songs. So, a mystery to me aswell. I only have four tracks of that show on DVD. But I can imagine that the whole show, or at least more than these 4 songs have been recorded for TV. But I have no idea who has it. Strange but true, because one would expect that expecially such a great recording would see the light of day!

Not true, there is *one* video (from 1996): http://www.mk-guitar.com/2012/05/15/mark-knopfler-only-live-video-of-portobelle-belle/ (http://www.mk-guitar.com/2012/05/15/mark-knopfler-only-live-video-of-portobelle-belle/)
It seems the Werchter show was recorded for TV and radio. The radio broadcast is the stereo version that can be found e.g. on some silver bootleg CDs, I also have R&J on a some tape in excelleent quality which is often missing.
I only know the bad quality TV recording with a few songs, never heard the WDYTYG version.
BTW, WDYTYG was played in Dortmund 1980 but was not not included in the TV broadcast of that show (just like Expresso Love)

Re Portobello Belle, poor quality non-official videos don't count for me :)
Thanks for the other infos, nice to know !

Well, one poor quality video is a million times more than zero we had otherwise ;)
Strange that PB was never filmed, given the fact that it was played on so many concerts between 1978 and 1996 (or even later?)

PB was performed on the Alchemy shows

PB was performed on the Alchemy shows
yes, so it was indeed filmed, but never released to us. Like many others...
:/ Mark does not like videos, period. The Alchemy blu Ray was a miracle, the last one... I don't see Mark getting an interest in any video featuring Alan Ckark after writing TOTT !!
-
I don't think Mark bothers with this sort of things.
And I don't think that he bothers with Alchemy neither, the BR release was the record company thing.
Actually we can even speculate about Mark little involvement in Alchemy when it was first released.

Pottel, you don't have any friend there? I'll ask my friends in Blankenberge City Hall for help.

lol, allen, you do not really have friends in Blankenberge, right??
