Thanks, MB!    :)

A couple of things I find a bit strange:

"In 1993, Dave, Mark and I agreed that Dire Straits was snowballing out of control – it had got too big – so we stopped."

I presume he was talking about DK?   In 1993?    :hmm

Also:

" We sold more than 120 million albums, won four Grammy Awards and three Brit Awards and spent more than 1,100 weeks in the UK album charts. "

So, if DS sold 120 million albums, why is the same number still being quoted for DS/MK albums combined?       :think

Thanks for that. Seems like a very friendly and likable fellow.

Pretty dull writer, though.

For those interested, John Illsley is playing the Curious Arts Festival in mid-July. This takes place in a park in  Lymington, not too far from the pub he owns:

Thanks MB for this link, really interesting interview!!! And I made the same comment than Super Val!! Why on Earth did he say Dave, Mark and I decided to stop in 1993??? Who's Dave??? Not DK!!! I think he made a mixup with the surname of someone else!!! :wave

Just a mistake by the journalist who actually wrote the article. Would most likely would have been a phone interviee turned into a first person article.

Anyone really believe that John actually wanted to disband DS?

Not, but he probably agreed with MK as during the OES tour probably mentioned very often how unhappy he was with the band.
