Hi all :wave
I managed to meet with Mark Knopfler Wednesday before the sounds check, but he refused to take a picture with me only signature :( I was surprised ... I managed to take a photo with Guy Fletcher and Mike Mcgoldrick, I retry after the concert but Mark totally ignored me, he wanted to ride in the car quickly... I was really disappointed it was my dream to take a picture with him :-[
Anyway

Good for you but just to say that it was exactly the same when I met MK a couple of years ago at Bridport and I'm afraid it's one of those things - he is a very shy chap. We respected his wishes of course but my wife did take a few pictures before/after meeting him though!! Anyway I think its the knowing yourself that you have met your 'hero' and to me having MK's Signatures are just an added bonus and they spark a lovely memory of our meeting;-)
Don't feel disappointed, however - feel very fortunate as there are lots on here and people I know would love to have the chance to meet him...

The same happened to me as well, twice.
Respect is the key I suppose.

Thank you for your answer my friends! Maybe one day we will take the photo with him, I am not abandoning hope :)
-
Yes, seems he's just not that comfortable. That said, he volunteered to do pics at the meet and greets earlier in the tour so who knows.

Or maybe in Hyde Park : https://syciphers.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/dsc_0203.jpg

People seem to use Photoshop all the time these days! ;)
At least you know you met him and had the experience. That's the main thing.
-
Totally agree dmg ;)

Strange this change of attitude that happened at the beginning of this century, he was more open in the 90's

Do you have a theory on why he has changed his attitude? And do you have some examples of how he did change?

Ed Bicknell vs PC?

I think it has more to do with technology and that all of us carry a camera these days. If every fan wanted a pic (probably a dreaded selfie) it would get really annoying. So best to say no to everyone.
-
It would have been nice but at the end of the day it's his decision and you did manage to get his autograph :D
I'd be happy with that.

I have no theory but was reported one or two times that Mark was openly signing and just abruptly turned feet the second someone took a camera out.

Unless you are in a meet and greet... it´s unlikely.

Interesting. He mentioned something about not liking mirrors in an interview, maybe he just isn't comfortable with the whole posing/looking good/capturing the moment - thing?

I think, he is cunning a little, having at that every reason to be satisfied with the way he looks. 8)
Just feels uncomfortable, being a focus of attention. Can't you see all those apparent attempts to drag out someone else onto the stage, whether Nigel or Ruth, to make himself as inconspicuous as possible and switch attention to them?

It does'nt surprise me because he doesn't want his picture to be posted on FB or Twitter!! And he doesn't like to sign autographed picture either. They said on his site that they stopped to send them to the Fans!! Well it's his choice and I understand him!! If he said yes to one then the others would be frustrated!!
