Simply Red have just kicked off a world tour.
At the end of each show people are given the opportunity to purchase a limited edition USB stick with a 320kbps MP3 recording of the gig they have just heard.

Wouldn't it be great if MK did this next year? :)
Chances of it happening? Slim to none. :-[
We would probably still get people moaning that 320kbps wasn't good enough and that it should be FLAC. ::)
-
exactly! i want lossless!!!!! ;D
-
I'd be amazed if anybody could distinguish between 320kbps and lossless in a blind test.
Anyhoo, I've emailed Guy the link, he'll probably say that MK's not interested but worth letting them know anyway.
-
that would be great and I'm sure they would sell loads, more than a CD months later though, there would be a lot of impulse buying, just after the show, when people are still on a high from it....
somehow, like you Dusty I can't see that happening , unfortunately.
-
What a great idea! :) I hope Mark thinks the same...
-
Its a great idea & a big money spinner but there is no way that MK would do something like that ??? ???
I remember going to gig's in Dublin years ago & you could buy a tape of the gig the following day on o'connell bridge - the bootleggers made a fortune out of it.

Agree with you...sadly it's he same old story...
"He's not interested"...I'm starting to hate this sentence :)
Cheers

Guy hasn't answered yet... Maybe they are discussion it? :D

It's a terrific idea, but I doubt it would happen. I can't see MK releasing anything without having it properly mixed and then approving it first. The 2005 SBDs were only available after Chuck Ainlay had done his magic in the studio. I guess they could set up some sort of system in advance to get the levels right, but there would be a loss of control over it from MK's point of view, and I don't think that's something he'd like.
As for 320kb/s or lossless, does it really matter? Even the 128kb/s Crowfly recordings sounded much better than any audience recording.
-
Well, Guy has just answered this question on his forum and interestingly, he has not ruled it out! He says it is not a new idea, but a good one although he would prefer a disk and asks for comments. I would think that there is hope yet!! ;)
-
Yes, not a dismissal, so very positive!
I think USB is better, as already stated easier to transfer to and more reliable. Once you've got it on USB easy to make your own disc if you want.

Seems to have created quite a talking point on the forum anyway, which is good.

Sounds a great idea for us fans but for a top world class artist like MK it is cheap and I don't think he goes in for cheap gimmicks. Simply Red may need the money - MK doesn't and I don't think he would lower himself to that level. It is similar to going to Disneyland on one of the big rides then buying a photograph of yourself (on the ride - face screaming) when you get off it!

Yes, filled with misinformed claims such as "No more crap audience recordings." Surely, "IL" of Italy has made some type of live recording in the past to make such a broad, sweeping statement? OK I think in this case, he or she has, so we'll let that slide...
But how anyone could use such a statement to form a valid argument is beyond me. The band doesn't owe us anything. The argument that the band should make soundboard recordings available to us, based upon an opinion that alternate recording types are "crap", is completely absurd.

Hey Simon 8), you might be right there coz I heard Mick Hucknall on the radio last week talking about the world tour & he was on about "Money's Too Tight To Mention" ;D ;D

A friend of mine saw The Kiss in Paris few months ago.
After the show he could buy the cd live !!! just burned !
Really great idea ! You just need to be very patient... when you have waited half a day in front of the venue's doors and then certainly few more hours after the show !! well when your addicted you can wait :p

I disagree with this statement.
Mind you, I'm a crack addict.
